I'm confused, if hill wasn't able to race why does results show him in 13th place?
Because this happened in the heat race.

I thought his "looks like they are out to get me" comment (or whatever his exact words were) came off as childish and made him look like a fool. Unless the broadcast left out some details, it seems he dropped the ball and it was his fault.
X2. Every rider knows it is required. You could tell he was really freaking pissed, but that was a bad time for slander. You show up without it, you can only blame yourself. BTW, I am a fan of the Hill family, I just think he used poor judgment with his words for his own mistake.

And whats up with the topless chick on the back of his helmet? I've always been a fan of his but I find it interesting that the officials even allow that shit. I know, I know, half naked Monster girls everywhere blah blah blah.

I can think of someone getting pulled off the line in the past for the same issue.

What incompetent posting to say that. Wink

This is nothing new. Teams generally worry about details like the bike. Riders (and sometimes a gear or helmet rep) are responsible for their personal gear.

This^^^. I can speak from being on that team. You are given what you need to race and small things like this are the riders responsibility. Christina and Chris bust their asses to help the riders, race day is hectic. And Pat from Bell is AWESOME, to even speculate he had anything to do with is crazy. More than likely the scenario that the pads were switched out and it was never replaced.

Jenny Taft needed to be MORE informed on the actual situation she did nothing but cause more confusion IMO. Yea I remember Jake Canada not having it in his helmet and I think he was on the gate bike running when they pulled him? Yea I would put some blame on Bell it is a new release helmet that isn't AMA legal???

Do some of you guys even watch the races?

If Bell is giving him helmets I feel they should have them installed into the helmet before they even give them to the rider.. The manufacturer knows that the rider needs the device to race! They are taped in the helmet pretty good and even when you wash the helmet and remove the pads and liner it stays right in the helmet. The last thing the rider needs to worry about is if their Hats off Device is installed in their helmet. Any helmet manufacturer should be giving these helmets to these teams with it already installed. The mechanic of the rider is usually the one who brings the helmet the lettered jersey and the bike through tech inspection. I know I always checked my riders helmet to make sure it was in there before I even headed down. But still, the helmet companies know they need it. Why not make it that much easier for the rider. In fact all the manufacturers should sell helmets with them! It's such a great device because I've seen so many idiot medics and parents rip helmets off!!

Why does everyone have to blame someone else. Just seems like a mistake, plain and simple. Just remember your device next time and all is well.

I don't mean this to be a jab, but if I was a professional rider that had been around the sport forever and "seen so many idiot medics and parents rip helmets off" I would set aside the short amount of time out of my day to simply check that it was there, that's all. Once again, I think it's being blown way out of proportion. Just seems like a really unfortunate oversight that I'm sure won't happen again.

They take them in and out all the time, it is not permanently attached. I don't think a Bell rep is hovering around in every pit.

if I were "team manager" and responsible for doing everything in my power (crossing every t and dotting every I) to ensure that my rider was ready to go off the gate without a hitch to represent the sponsors of the team, you damn skippy I would check to see that all safety features were installed by whomever, but hey that's just me and I don't manage a team other than my family....very much the same same as ensuring that TUE was filled out properly and on time so that my team doesn't throw away thousands of dollars not having a rider present because that is 100% preventable unlike the misfortune of injury....

have fun!

What are the chances that a guy like Josh Hill, who's been a factory rider most of this life, doesn't know the rules or anything about the Hats Off device? Maybe he's on a new ride that lets the rider be responsible for those sort of things and it slipped through the cracks and his comments were sincere, but misinformed?

It's a minor detail. It's over with. Maybe he'll be more careful next time.

I imagine his sponsor that got rid of the rider they had to bring him in is not too happy not being out there.

After listening to Pulp, it was exactly what I stated. Only Eject is allowed even though they are the same device.

What Josh said on camera wasn't quite accurate though. He was speaking of the cheek pad removal system, which is different from the "Hats-off Device".

I also thought it was a little out of line for Hill to call out the AMA like that. I don't recall Hill having any issues with the AMA, so why would he say that they had it out for him?

Ding, ding, ding! Thank you GuyB. Just for kicks-and-giggles, I've been listening to Pulp while working for the last bit. No offense to Keefer, but the Bell doesn't come with the Eject system installed, it's getting mixed up with their cheek pad removal system.

Well that Already hasn't happened so...... Do you know why they let Lamay go? I like what were the reasons?

I am sure they switched to Hill because he is a better/faster rider and has have more potential for better finishes because at one time he could win. Hill may never win another race but I think he is still higher up on the ladder than Lamay.

They said on Pulpmx show that they had talked to him about some things numerous times and I would guess those talkings landing on deaf ears so away he went? I wonder what the issues were Hmmmm?

that makes sense, but honestly i dont think you can blame keefer for the mix up, when reading about the new helmet it does sound like they have a proprietary ejection system, not just cheek pad removal. thats where the confusion came for me. that being said, you would think that the way helmets are going these days that they would be starting to come with this stuff built in already.

I'm not blaming Kris at all, he's a really good friend, I just brought it up since one user said he heard it on Pulp.

The Eject system wouldn't be all that advantageous to the public, as not all the tracks, medics, and flaggers are going to have the pump to use these. That's why most helmet manufactures do the cheek pad removal system instead.

Also, it's a proprietary technology. Meaning companies would have to pay for the right to even use it, which would raise the price of the helmets.

they dont come built in because the only motocross series in the world that uses them in the ama sx and outdoor series. the only place the paramedics are trained to use them is.. you guessed it. putting them stock in a helmet would be pointless to the masses because they would get used approximately .0001% of the time outside pro racing. (although it would be great if they were used in more places)

Most of the Paramedics have the pump now that are at the track, I know they have them at REM. I've got them in all my helmets.

Josh Hill should know his gear and the rules, its part of being a professional rider, he can take minute away from talking to the Monster Girls every week and check himself.

I check all my shit every ride, and I'm just a dumb fat old vet racer with a full time job.
