I remember back in the 80's that Hannah, ward, omara, and maybe others at one time or another had broken navicular bones in their wrists. Any reason why we never hear of that particular injury? As I recall it was particularly nasty because there was very minimal blood flow around the area which made it take forever to heal.
I had injured myself in morning practice at gatorback and was sitting on top of my bus filming with a new camcorder ,it was a big vhs thing, the battery was bigger than any camcorder today, but anyway,I was filming RJ at the very moment storbeck landed on him.
Continued filming as he walk3d to a ambulance near me and a huge crowd gathered. Could tell it was not good. Still have that tape somewhere.
Have you guys heard of the surgery where they cut your hand open , surgically tie a vein to the side of the bone for a faster healing process? Supposed to cut the healing time down quite a bit.

Broke mine in 2001 and had the screw put in and forced my "retirement" from ok local rider status until last year when i came out of retirement into the used to pretty ok and sort of fast old fat vet rider class!
Broke mine in '85 when I hit a downed bike tapped out in third after a downhill jump. Went superman for quite a few feet then landed hands first on the ground. Knew it wasn't good. Doctors blew the diagnosis on the x-Ray and raced for another 4 weeks with a taped wrist. By the time they caught it, it had started to heal in an offset position. It's done now, hurts a little to a lot depending on the day, and have about 50% movement. If it gets jammed, a shooting pain will run up my arm. Learned to live with it.
Next topic, whats with the bald chick?
This thing is taking a long time to heal. It's been 4 months and I still don't have a strong grip from my thumb and it's painful when I grip hard. the big bone where my thumb meets my hand is 20% bigger now and I wonder if it's crushing the ulnar collateral ligament. Using a small rubber sand bag seems to be helping the strength and range or motion.
I guess it's good the tracks around me don't open until April.

I've broken mine, kind of a pain in the ass. I was in a soft cast for a few months to see if it would heal on it's own and it didn't. Then they tried a hard cast to see if it would heal and it didn't. I ended up getting surgery and they took a bone graft from my hip and packed it in there along with a screw. A few months after that of taking it easy (in a soft cast) and monitoring it. I had this bone simulator thing that they had me put on my wrist every night that sent electronic pulses to it to promote blood flow and help healing. Eventaully it healed up (probably about a year later all said and done). It still bothers me from time to time, movements where I'm bending my wrist or applying pressure a certain way, but it's not that bad.
Hearing others' stories, I now see I was very lucky.
