Eddie_E Added a reply to Automatic Transmissions

I rented a brand new Sentra with the CVT last year and it had the worst "turbo lag" when you put your foot in it. I'd almost consider buying the car, but the reviews where people mention the belt snapping with no warning don't thrill me. The technology has worked well in fuel injected Vespa scooters, but removing the variator...

They aren't going to patent brush-less speed controls or batteries. There are companies in China like Hobbywing who have been selling this tech for 10 years. The closest to a battery patent that I know of was A123 LiFe batteries. Those are the cells used to make replacement batteries for current KTM's. As some of you have seen, some of...

The 2018 YZ250F features all new 90% welds. This increases the penetration of the head tube welds from the previous years 70% penetration welds.

I built my "last mx bike" just over a year ago and I'm really happy with it. It's just a 2013 YZ250 with a GYTR heavy flywheel and a 36mm Lectron carb. Everything else is stock. I started my racing shenanigans on an 1987 YZ250, it seems fitting I end on the same bike. If I had a million dollar...

Eddie_E Added a reply to Rocky Hill MX closing?

It's the step down from the top of the hill, you just need to hit it in 4th, LOL. Not a new jump, don't worry. I take the short drop on the right.

NHMX is an awesome layout with a nice flow and some natural altitude changes. I'd say nearly a perfect track except for over-watering the top corner above the step-down. It's well worth the drive from CT or MA. It favors the Vets and minis a little, but pros can drop 40+ foot vertical and 100' long if riding in an...

Eddie_E Added a reply to Goggles choice

I need a goggle that has 5 mm thicker foam than average to fit in my Fly helmet. I've been using $30 goggles from 100%, Fly, Smith, and Oakley L frames. Every one of them lets roost in between the foam and my cheeks with the goggles bottomed in the helmet.

Yeah, I went to a Kawasaki dealer and they had no Honda parts available. I think we should avoid Honda until parts are available.

It's the tracks, pure and simple. The pro level track layout and grooming from 20 years ago would be called a "Vet track" now. Now that half the bikes on any Podunk track are 450's, the guys grooming think all tables need to be 80+ feet and the doubles need to be 50+ feet with a steep landing right after...

Eddie_E Added a reply to 4 stroke vs 2 stroke, decision!

7/26/2016 7:28am
East coast woods riding is nearly the opposite of California riding. It's mostly wet rocks and roots in the fall and spring. tight singletrack is the norm and cooling is important because there are trails where you end up in 2nd gear for a mile before shifting to 3rd. We regularly see a 200 XCW leave the 450's for dead...

Eddie_E Added a reply to Race tech spring Calculator

7/6/2016 7:30am
I have found the RT calculator to be right on for my YZ's. I tend to be in the 190 lb range most years. I seem to like the higher of the 2 options when rounding the numbers, though. My reason for that is that I find the heavy spring with less pre-load feels like is has less bounce in...

MX is probably the the hardest on a repair, but I would use a black zip tie as a filler rod and build up that area instead of leaving a valley and give it a shot. It's trash if you don't try it anyways. I wouldn't try it in a spot on the wrong side of the air filter though...
