Any 2018 YZ250F News?

I am trying to decide to pick up a left over 16 or wait for the 18 for my son. Wondering if any significant changes may be coming?

Yamaha has been using a 4 year refresh on both 250 and 450 for over a decade now. And both bikes are currently 4 years old. So we might be seeing some new Yamahas in the fall.

I heard the AMA is getting rid of the "boost ban". So Yamaha is putting a turbo in their 250F...Laughing

Snow bikes already have turbos. Let them loose on the dirt.

Be careful as u may be ridiculed. To be fair that looks like enough to make a 250f weigh more than a 450.....A good capacitor, and electric supercharger ( 4-5 psi) in the low end, would probably be 5 lbs and add gobs of low and mid to a 250f. Gobs. A turbo would just be too much damn heat, and who needs lag on a motocross bike. Streetbike power profiles were proven ineffective long ago for Moto (Suzuki rh works bikes late 60s). Adding power isn't actually too hard for the mfers nowdays. Making it usuable is the hard part.

There have been small difference is the 14, 15, 16, & 17. We have a 15 and a 16. Sorry for using the forum for what it is meant for. This place would be so much better without all the dicks...Unsure

The 2018 YZ250F features all new 90% welds. This increases the penetration of the head tube welds from the previous years 70% penetration welds.

Hopefully that will cure the "cracked" frame problems...

Yes but there is dead weight and gyroscopic - Typically they can reduce the cc size and therefore gyroscopic effect and get the same HP as normally aspirated 250F then combine supercharger(or electric) with a turbo thereby reducing lag and increasing overall hp. The problem is the rules do not allow this avenue of research - I think it would be great if some how we went down this road - End result might still be normally aspirated is more reliable like aircooled thumpers ? They say the Ninja H2 is better than the GP inspired R1 ? Well it does better numbers on the track.

Hybrid electric turbo like F1 ? Surely the day will come when MX goes down the same road - It will have to go down some new road as tech changes with the times !

Was wondering the same as the op, looking at the pre-pro Japan National bike pics, the 250F looks to have less changes than the 450. Overhaul the 450 for 18 and the 250 will probably follow in '19.

What about the magic button..would they do it on the 250F??
