Rocky Hill MX closing?

Crisp BRAAAP!
Apologies if I am screwing this up, but I am heading to Rocky Hill MX (Lorusso's track in CT) Tuesday so I was looking around the Internet for hours. I came across this story that says that the town is buying the track out because of the usual problems. Is this true??? If so, it's terrible because there is essentially no place to in CT. 2017 is it?

I rode there in May and was told this season would be their last. It sucks because it's a pretty good track for a flat field and its in a good location. When I went there must have been almost 100 riders there so it definitely sucks

This season?!?! Like '16?

Yeah, it really sucks. People talk about reasons that the sport is dying but having one of the few tracks in a huge state shut down is no good.

CTMX is open this year and next year, then closed in 2018.
Website is www.ctmotocross.com. There's a ride day there on Monday, 9/26, Manchester Honda/KTM will have a 2017 KTM 350sxf and 250sxf demo bikes for free test rides.
Another big facility is opening in 2017, check out www.508intl.com in Charlton, Ma

Sucks about rocky hill closing next year. When I went as a kid I remember we called it the worm farm. Bad to hear especially since there were so many bikes last time I went so looked like plenty of gate fees coming through the door. Pretty excited about that 508 facility. I checked it out a few months ago when I saw a post about it, is it supposed to be a training facility with open practices and races also?

I am sure it's great, but I am based in NJ. I just checked and that's about 4.5 hours one way for me. I am out.

I have occasional work in Rocky Hill so it was perfect: I could sneak in some play on a work day.

Somehow I don't think Ed Peruta, the land owner, will lie down on this. Ed is a no pushover and has had a certain feeling towards local govt. for quite a while. When he opened the track originally in 1994 he did it for all the right reasons. I would be willing to bet a new track surfaces somewhere.

He mentions in the article that he is aware of other properties/owners that have expressed interest. I hope so...in the mean time, it seems like there's basically no place legal to ride in the state, right? At least no where that you can drop by for a day.

Ed is getting old and wants to sell the land to the town and retire which is why it's going away. The town wants nothing to do with a mx track Sad

Yeah the cops and town have started harassing the place this year giving him a hard time. NH is much more accepting of mx and more importantly fun.

NHMX is an awesome layout with a nice flow and some natural altitude changes. I'd say nearly a perfect track except for over-watering the top corner above the step-down. It's well worth the drive from CT or MA.

It favors the Vets and minis a little, but pros can drop 40+ foot vertical and 100' long if riding in an ambulance is your thing.
As a vet rider, I find it a nice lower impact alternative to the local tracks who have gone to 100" distances on some jumps.

I am the next town over and it is for sure a long haul. We ran events (www.acrmx.com) back when Marco owned the track. Leaving on Friday and camping out was the only way to make that event. But, back then it was worth it. The track was incredible and we ran three events per weekend (MX/MX-Flat track/CC). I would love to head back up there.

My life is too loud for such luxuries right now. I hope it slows/settles down at some point, or the boy finally picks up a bike so I could at least do that with him. Work, home and family simply take too much time for a road trip/camping weekend. It sounds great to me otherwise!

Jolly's is great but where is the 100' long jump? I was just there 3 weeks ago, is it new since then?

It's the step down from the top of the hill, you just need to hit it in 4th, LOL. Not a new jump, don't worry. I take the short drop on the right.

Ah, The Intimidator?

If that's the jump you're referring to, before you get somebody killed, it's no where near 100 feet and if you hit it in 4th you'll land in the pits (at least your body will) hahaha. It's 2nd gear on a 450. You can click 3rd if you like to lug it.
