I love my 04 cr250. This baby is never leaving my garage. Bought in 09 during the 4-stroke or nothing craze for 1800 dropped a new wiseco piston in and had Brian at Livengood motosports set my suspension up and go over the whole thing and 5 years later it rides as good as the day i bought her. I get maybe 15-25 hours of mostly woods riding a year and im intermediate level 30+.

The thing about smokers is you can try one for awhile, and if you don't like that certain brand, just get a different one. The motors are easily rebuildable and are basically bulletproof. My opinion, get the 06 YZ, ride the dog out of it, and if you don't like it, get something else.

Whats your fix for the power valve spring? I hear they break a lot on the KX250's.
Yes, they break freaquently. I always bought a couple at a time and replaced when needed. I usually got a good 10-15 hrs before it broke, so it wasn't too bad, and replacement only takes 15 mins. .But yeah Deetsmx said it rite. The EG mid-top port job hauled serious ass...very, very serious..it was a 450 killer.

I had the squish on my set up by a local shop and my old man did some port work to my '04....just an awesome engine setup. Most comfortable I've ever been on a bike.

I just learned my old kx 250 was sold for $800 2 days ago. I wish I knew, I woulda been back in the 2 stroke mafia.

I've had a couple of aluminum framed YZ's, and I honestly prefer my kx. 05 and up feel pretty dang sweet to me, I just thought the yz was so dang rigid, regardless of what I did to the suspension. I really like the SX250 too, just make sure you play around with the jetting and power valve settings. I rode one at the KTM dealer show this summer and thought the power was oddly tame compared to other 250's I'd ridden, then they told me that was because it hadn't yet been adjusted.

I would LOVE to own a 2005-2007 Honda CR 250. Send it to Watts Perfection for his magic!

I haven't ridden an '05-'07 CR, nor an '02-'03. My buddy has an '02 and we're gonna do a comparison pretty soon here. His is stock and my '04 has a PWK and Gorr porting, so I'm interested to see how noticeable the differences are.

The '04 sounds like this "weird" step child, but mine works great. That's all I can vouch for.

Well a good chance it looks like I will be going blue. Had a tidy CR lined up, but got pipped at the post.
Went and looked the blue bike today.

2010
Ohlins shock
Big front brake
Hydraulic clutch
Recent strip to frame and rebuilt
Heaps of spares

All going to plan, should have in my garage Christmas Eve, it's a sexy looking machine Wink
Will post pics once she home.

Pretty excited at the moment!

My opinion by my experience...
125 I choose 04 tm. good all round bike, ohlins stock, hydraulic clutch, oversized floating disc and the best turning bike I ever rode.
250 is going to my ktm 250sx 2013. It took me a bit of work and trial and error on settings but it handles exceptionally. It's got more than enough power top to bottom. The shock is good. The forks are not, sprung to my weight they are too harsh over chop and into braking bumps (the only problem with the bike). It's done 188hrs on the original bottom end top ends replaced every 35hrs with no trouble.
Rode a yz250 15 model (to basically see if I wanted one to replace my kato) with ohlins, vforce reeds, fmf sst with shorty... Suspension was very good. Ergos I wasn't a massive fan of but would get used to over time (on euro bikes most my life). The engine felt weak off the bottom, hit mid to top and over rev died quick. I was very disappointed in it.

Can't wait to get this thing out for a rip!

You'll never find parts for that thing in the US, better move to one of those countries where winter is summer and summer is winter.Wink Cool bike cept for the pegs. Shock looks purdy.

Very nice, congrats! I had a 13 and now a 14, they're great bikes. Make sure you've got the correct spring rates and spend some time playing with sag and fork height, the chassis handles incredible but is very sensitive to setup.

Luckily I have the backwards summer/ winter thing sorted, and spares a non issue. Now I just need to find sometime to ride it before the new year.

Got a couple of different ohlins springs to play with so can hopefully dial in my sag correctly. 100mm still the starting point as per jap bikes? Forks are the marzocchis and have been revalved, so be interested to see how they compare to previous rides.

Get it into the 105mm range and make small adjustments from there, if you have less than 25mm static use a heavier spring, more than 35mm go lighter. I like mine at 105mm and fork tubes 10mm above the top clamp. Sand tracks I run the forks at 0-5mm. Play with it, you might find a different setting works better for you.

Here is the beast '06 CR250R very fun to ride, very responsive and the motor can be made to work with some bolt on performance. Love this thing.

2003 KX250 is my favorite bike. Had one for a while and loved it. Just picked up another one for a frame up rebuild. I never liked the Yamaha's either, had a 2006 YZ250 and a 2003 YZ250 and I couldn't get used to the ergo's....I will say I liked the 2003 YZ better than the 2006. The chassis was alot more forgiving. Loved my 2004 CR250 too. All the 250t's are fun bikes..it's all personal prefrence.
I also had an 03 KX250 and loved it. My dad still rides and races harescrambles with it. If I were to buy another two stroke, it would be a 05-07 KX250.
