They are sold in the US as the SSR250R. I think they retail for $3600. We sell a lot of SSR stuff and was just kind of curious as well. As soon as we heard rumors about it we talked them into selling us the prototype.

The main issue they are going to have is you can buy a used Jap bike for the price this retails at and have a better motorcycle.

It's worth adding that the box included EVERYTHING to dual sport the bike in the box, I personally believe that is the direction they should focus on when selling these bikes.

I read the Pingree article, I was laughing out loud in a public library. Thanks Ping, IMO the best piece of moto literature ever written.

chinese stuff is always copies, they reverse engineer everything they can , and guess the rest... piss poor materials and everything ... just made of cheese.
This is why I love the Germans. They appreciate quality and are not into sacrificing performance to save money.

Fuck China! Just a bunch of copied, cheap junk.

Seems like they bought the plans off of suzuki for the 07-08 rmz.
We have one brave importer here that sells a CRF450X copy called the Odes MCF450 and has works really hard to legitimize the China bike thing. We tested the bike for ADB magazine a few years ago and caused a bit of grief for the advertising dept by saying the think handled like a 1973 Datsun 120Y with four blown shocks....(in the USA I believe the car was called B-210) The local importer has spent a bunch of time and effort even modifying the bike here with some Gen Honda parts. We even tested one fitted with 2009 CRF450 fork, shock Carby and exhaust. for a general trail rider at novice level it wasnt a bad thing but a modern MX bike it wasn't. just too heavy ( the forks internals were all steel copys of the @2007 47mm Showa CRF fork).

I told the guy to go back to them and get them to build some copys of YZ490/cr500/cr250 two strokes with modern body work and brakes etc and those mite sell for @ $3-4000 ....

Having spent 2 years working in the Chinese MX industry, most of these bikes are absolutely horrible! There are copies of the big 5 really, I can remember a KTM copy that actually looked semi decent. Most are air cooled, some even have dummy radiators just to complete the illusion of being a decent bike.

The biggest problem is quality control, I remember spending time with some Shineray engineers at their factory, not only was there max power figure woefully bad, they commented that off the line engine power varied by around 5kW!!! It doesn't matter how well a bike is designed, if your workforce doesn't buy in to what you are making and are only getting paid enough to eat rice for lunch, you're not going to get a good product!

Honda has been getting stuff built there years, as would the other brands.

All the CRF minibike range is built there now, except the CRF150R.

Never going to happen. The variable here are the people themselves, and the Chinese are not the Japanese, not by a LONG SHOT.

Looks like every year they are getting a tad, better--at least from the looks of it.

This looks like their newest version of the CR/KTM copy?

The Japanese way is to make a product the best, regardless of how much effort is required. They commit suicide out of shame when business goes wrong. The chinese way is to steal, copy, and cut as many corners as possible. China will never catch the Japanese, they have no chance.

If any of you guys saw a Japanese car from 1980, you wouldn't even get in out of fear of it falling apart while driving. I've driven them all and they were sketchy. Now I own a Camry with 190K miles on it and drives like new, even after towing my trailer with 2 bikes on it. Things change over time.

Or an 80s Dodge k car? Compared to a Nissan or Honda of the time it was no comparison. Why do u think they grabbed so much market share? A Toyota pickup with a 22r was night and day better than any ranger/s10 of the early to middles 80s. In every way. How many s10s from the eighties still around? Cuz I see the Marty mcfly yotas everywhere

Yep. Got a 03 Lexus es300 with 276,000. Not a dashboard light on. Makes the 70 mile round trip to work everyday. Doesn't cost me a dime.

The Japanese get it right. I wouldn't even throw my leg over a China bike. Thing would probably break In Half and cripple me.

The Chinese do get some things right. My wife is Chinese, lived in China until she was 33. She is far better than the American made wife she replaced.

I actually had a 72 Vega for a while. It got 30 miles per gallon........of oil. At least we never had mosquitos in my neighborhood.
