I got officially fed the f up with all the cocksuckers on CL so I have gone old school- trading my used bikes back into the dealer. Might not get the last couple hundred bucks out of them, but they are gone trouble free.

The market is now flooded with used bikes. Can't believe you can get sweet rides like an 06YZ450F or an 08CR450F for 2500 bucks

I tried selling my 07 CRF250R for 2500 and people still kept trying to low ball me. I thought I would try and sell it before winter, but it is just not the time to sell in my area. It is one of the nicest low hour 250fs in my area. I still cannot believe the low prices in certain areas. Around here a late year RM250 or any 250 smoker is $3000+ easy. I keep running into people getting rid of too new bikes 09+. None of the bikes seem to be moving around here which is also a sign people are not buying unless it is a steal.

Sold a few on Creepslist, taken a little beating on the price just to move them, only to see them re-appear on the list for more money than I let them go for within a few weeks time.

Most of the Creepers think they are Rick from prawn stars or those American gypper ripper offer dudes.

I do not budge on price anymore. I tell them ,'it ain't eatin no grass", and start rolling it back inside.

Let 'em leave. Flakiest bunch ever surfaces from CL.

In Minnesota right now and most of the Midwest on Craigslist used bikes are super cheap
Even 2 stroke 125 and 250's
I could find a nice one any where from $1200 to $2000

Decent 250f
I could get.one for $2000

450. $2500 to $3500

Probably somewhat do to season
But I've heard a lot of people lately that dont have any liquid /expendable cash ..me included.
I can't afford one even at those prices ..
I work full time and am behind on basic bills right now .electricity etc..

I thought about selling my 06 450 to find something newer but I'm just going to spend 1000 or so to freshen it up this winter. Glad I can do all the work myself including the piston and head.

Yeah, I don't know the answer either. I usually keep my bikes for about 3 or 4 years, so when I do get rid of them I don't feel like I'm taking a big hit.
I'm a 57 year old vet rider and I have a really nice 2012 KXF 250. I'll probably try to sell or trade when the 16's come out. But I'm sure I'm going to take a beating on it.

I have a 05 crf 450 that sat for two years and was running great before that until it hesitated while heading to pits at end of day and I crashed. Now when I start it it acts like it has an intake or exhaust leak with the popping. I don't know if I want to fix it or give it away cheap. I'm sure it is just a valve job or a leak. I am going to the dealership to pay for a 15 crf tomorrow and getting a new pipe for the yz 250 too. What should I do with it? What's it worth?

When you place an ad on craigslist,, only include your email, that way you can cull out the idiots without having to talk to the morons. They only get to talk to you after you've fully qualified them to come look. I let it be known that if they try to lowball, or screw with me in any way, other than normal negotiation, I won't sell it to them at any price. I especially like the douchebags that show up and absolutely tear the bike apart with comments, hoping you'll see it their way and " Give" it to them. It does help to not "have" to sell though.

I'D rather blow the bike up with dynamite than give it away to an idiot that thinks he's doing me a favor by taking it off my hands. I can buy almost any bike I want for 30 to 50 cents on the dollar if I'm patient, and it doesn't start with pissing the owner off before I even get a chance to meet with him....

I can't imagine plopping down $8000 for a new bike, when I can wait a year, look for the guy that has lost interest in the sport for whatever reason before even running a full tank of gas through the bike. And "taking it off his hands" for Half of what he paid for it a year ago before he added a pipe, clutch, hubs, etc. I do it all the time and to tell the truth, I enjoy hunting these babies down more than actually owning them most of the time. If you negotiate right, the owner does'nt feel like you stuck it in and broke it off just because you could.

That leaves no market for a slightly used 1 or 2 year old bike in the $4000-$5500 range. If that's what you think your bike is worth, just keep it for a few more years until you're willing to take $3200 for it. No sense in dealing w/ the headache of trying to sell it.
I agree with what you're saying here.

I've sold some absolute cherry motorcycles at rock bottom prices over the last 5 years (a few of which, in hindsight, I should have NEVER sold for the price I did).

I believe that while the cost of new bikes has steadily risen, the amount of money that the average used bike shopper is willing/able to save up has remained topped out at $2500-$3000.

Used bike market sucks in Houston and our economy is better than most. Even 2 strokes aren't selling.

I've had my 2006 RM250 listed on CL and other sites for two months and have only had 1 person interested. The dang thing even has a complete engine rebuild.

I think $2500 is fair for it:

Brother Darryl........man , It's the wrong time of the year. If you have a descent bike , and an honest price and you sell it at the beginning of spring....it won't last long. Now....the riding season for most is slowing way down. Everyone is trying to get a new bike ( or used bike for next year ) but they won't jump until that weather starts to change.

Like I was saying , it's not so much the market is weak......it's just weak this time of year.

This past April I put my 2008 CRF450 on CL and I waited until the first really good weekend of weather came. I had over 20 calls in 24hrs and two of those said they would pay full price....no questions asked! Sold it to a guy that drove 6hrs north to pick it up and he slapped $3300.00 in my hand and drove off with a smile.

Seriously.....every time I get ready to sell one , I wait until spring is right around the corner......they sell quick if it's priced honest and fair.

just down in your neck of the woods yesterday jeffro .sure don't miss that Portland traffic and I thought seattle was bad. drove through 3 accidents and 11 hrs later we were home. we went to the track today. he was loving life. probably come downn to race woodland here soon

I do not post on here much, But I sold my bikes before I moved halfway across the US. I had no problem 4 years ago, I had a 78 xr75, Modded 03 RM250, 08 KX450, modded 08 KX250f and 09 KX250f, I got excellent value and no issues back then! I did keep my girlfriends 2008 crf 150f, it is in mint condition! BBR springs front and rear, PC full exhaust and more. There are 2 light scratches in the front fender from storage and THATS IT! Bike has a new battery, updated rear fender and seat cover, original everthing including bars and grips! There is not 1 thing that a buyer can pick apart on this bike...... I use the CL email relay to avoid BS and you should see the offers I get on the thing! I could sell it blown up for the "offers" I get! I told her I should take it out for a few hard desert rides and make it look "USED" and then try to sell it and the sad fact is that it would sell quicker...... Just add some monster stickers as well and call it good! Nobody can appreciate anything! My gf said she wants nothing to do with bikes anymore as she has witnessed what it takes to sell them anymore..... I want a new RMZ450 or KTM350, but will end up buying a 10+ year old 125 at its worst point and or in buckets of parts and redoing it..... I myself am sick of trying to sell a bike........

Its the same here in AUS I have swapped with cash adjustments on my last 2 changes swapped a 12 crf 450 for a 12 ktm 250 sx 2 stroke plus 300 bucks , then 6 months later I swapped the 2 stroke for a 13 model kx 450 and 500 bucks cash , I cant get 5 grand for the kx which is cheap cheap ! should of hung on to the 2 stroke and sold it for maybe 5500 but now I`m not too keen on throwing 10 grand a new 250 f knowing I`l burn half of it in 6 months ! on the good side I have an awsom machine that I realy like riding so I`l just keep it fresh until its worth shit and then buy something 6 months old for fuck all !

We see the same in the UK.

Unfortunately it is a buyers market and is only worth what someone will pay. The used market has dropped significantly over the last few years with the biggest factor being that new bikes/cars are being so heavily discounted that the trickle down effect passes directly over.

8000 dollar bikes going out the door for 6000 has a direct knock on effect. Effectively the dealer has knocked 2k off of the used bike market.

Someone that buys a new model as soon as it comes out for say 8000 will be lucky to get half that when next years model comes out and dealers discount old new stock. If the dealers held the prices at say 10-15% discount on last years models then the second hand market will increase accordingly.
