I've been riding a 2003 Honda CRF450R for the past four years and now its parked and for sale. I just got a 2006 Honda CR250 with only 20-25 hrs. ride time and took it out to practice track Sunday for the first time. I'm a old guy that still has C-class speed and its a bitch going back to the 2-smoke.

Could have been worse if you bought a 125. Try a fly wheel wheight and learn to use the clutch again.

I raced a CR250 then went to a 250f then a 450f then tried to ride a buddies 06 kx250 about 2 years later and felt like I never rode a bike before. It was so difficult and awkard.

It takes a couple of rides to get used to it again. I have a RMZ 450 and have ridden 4 strokes since 04, but I picked up a KX250 in march and an RM125 last month. I've only hopped on my 4 stroke twice since buying those bikes. I love riding the 250, but it's probably the hardest one to get used to. The 125 is pretty easy to adapt to since it feels so slow and the power is not intimidating. I let my dad ride the 250 and he couldn't get used to it, but he loved the 125. I think the faster you are the easier the 2 strokes are to ride, but I do see a lot of slower riders struggling much more on the 2 strokes than the 4 strokes.

I"ve seen some really fast people try to go back only to get owned. I personally love it.
They get wore out in half the laps and can't put the power to the ground.
Beginners aren't nearly as fun to watch as they were 10 years ago either. Sad

I been riding 4 strokes since 04, but I still have a 98 kx 250, I take it out once in a while to fool around. I feel like a complete squid on the thing. haha I would never, ever take it on a track for real. I used to love that bike. I know a lot of guys love em, and are all about em, but I personally love the advancement of the 4 strokes. I feel safer and more confident on my kxf.

I think the 4 strokes are easier to ride if you are a beginner or novice. Once you get up to the intermediate and pro level the difference is not as big since they're in the meat of the power at all times and the abruptness of the powerband goes away. It does take a bit more skill to ride a 2 stroke and you lose a lot more time if you make a mistake.

i dunked my CR250 last weekend in a 4 foot deep waterhole. yanked the plug, pumped out the water and in 15 minutes she was running.

while i was fixing my CR250 a guy on a 450f did the same thing. bloop.

I saw him later, at the end of a tow strap. DOA.

I learned to really ride Moto-X on a 2005 CRF450R at the ripe old age of 34. Recently switched to a 2 stroke and my pace has really improved. I can ride the bike so loose and squirrely and just keep the throttle hammered. And I finally learned how to take the inside line properly. I finally pulled away a bit from my friend that is a fast B racer the other day which was real exciting to me!

Hopped back on a 450 for a quick ride the other day and it felt really weird. I could go the same speed but I didn't find it very fun to ride and I don't think I would have progressed riding the 450s.

The 450 4s still have a LOT more power than the 250 2s. They shouldn't be racing together.

This is how my day went Sunday riding the CR250 for the first time.

1. Got to the practice track with race sag set, new oil and fitting the bike to me. Turned gas on and choke out and 2 kicks its a running.
2. Took first lap easy and all is fine.
3. Second lap started going fasting and was thinking "where in the hell is the power that am use to.
4.Started trying to do some of the jumps that I was doing on the CRF450 and found myself with not enough speed coming out of the corner to feel safe.
5. Realized that I needed more corner speed and more clutch action and had to change the gears more on the CR250.
6. Realized the 4-stroke made me lazy and now I've got to work the CR250 bike more, end of practice one.
7. Second practice of the day, started coming out of the corners with more speed "more clutch" and hitting the same jumps that I was doing on my CRF450 with no problem. Front end of the bike felt lite.
8. Third practice of the day. I started feeling ok on the bike and maybe doing same speed as I could on my CRF450. Realized the CRF450 makes you LAZY and started having fun on the CR250.
9. Did another 5 lap practice and then loaded the bikes up and went home tired as hell but feeling good.

If all the factories put another 10 years and a few trillion more yen into four stroke development, maybe they'll build a 450 that runs even close to as good as a 2001 CR500. Maybe. And it'll still be a heavier, taller, higher CG, less reliable, more maintenance engine.

All these people talking about being lazy. What is lazy? Riding two laps and having a beer or riding for 20-30 minutes and resting for 10-15 and then putting in another 30 minutes? Or is lazy riding 75 miles a day on single track? I am just not clear with this lazy, but then again I think its just BS that is made up like Two strokes are superior bikes to the modern four strokes. If they were superior don't you think the would have done something to make them more competitive rather then dump a WHOLE lotta money into the four stroke idea?

Displacement means shit when you can save a dime a couple hundred thousand times over.

Ever wonder why two strokes arent going away in other countries?

I think by lazy they just mean easier to go faster on. You have to work more on a 2 stroke to make sure you hit your lines right to keep the momentum up and keep it on the pipe. The power is there when you need it on a 4 stroke so it's much more forgiving. It does take more skill to ride a 2 stroke fast, no doubt about it. Is it a better bike? I think it's just rider preference. I love riding my 2 strokes, but in reality on most tracks I'm probably faster on my 4 stroke.

I've raced a 250 two stroke and a 450 for the past two years. I am faster on a 450 but I think the two stroke will make you a better rider. I might get a KTM150 this year that bike sounds like a lot of fun.

I wish I would have had one last weekend. Me and T-fish tried to do our own little version of a iron man, racing 4 classes just for bragging rights. I didn't quite make it got 7 out of 8 motos. Track was hardpack and slippery and the RM250 really wore me out, more than usual. T-fish fared a little better being able to switch between his 450 and 144,although the 2 stroke hit bit him pretty good on the slippery jump face on his 144.
Remember that pretty Williams hand built pipe?
