Not sure if you blokes follow RC on instagram, but looks like he just had a pretty nasty skin cancer cut out of the back of his leg.

I've had a shit load of suspect moles removed and it frightens the bejeezus out of me, especially more so now being married and with a little one.

Just wanted to wish him well and spread the word, wear sunscreen, long clothing and a hat!

I'm not red-head, tho I'm fair, and have a slightly fire beard. Occasionally. Although I'll deny it.

There are a bunch of things but it's more to do with the complexion that comes with the red hair, that lack of colour, transparent skin is a lack of pigment or melatonin in your skin– means you burn more easily and quicker.... burn means damage, damage means mutation and potentially cancer.

Having said that, it can happen to anyone.

It makes me mad that I did't wear more protection when I was little, it is totally preventable to even be in a situation where you're thinking about these things. Stay safe!

It happens pretty much to people who belongs (genetically) to northern countries. Having said that, I've seen a ton of irish, scotish and nordic countries people BURNING theirselves in the mediterranean shore (Barcelona, Catalunya, where I belong).

I'm "latin" in case you want to classify me, I mean, dark hair, dark eyes and I was pretty much black skin when I was a kid, used to enjoy summers with 40º C.

It's so funny, because normally when I am at work or on school (I live in Iceland), sometimes, and not always, locals look at me telling me that I'm not icelandic and then you feel this kind of "you don't look like us, you are hairy and black" and then, you tell them how red and dangerous they become when they want to be "tan", and how ready I'm to not suffer skin cancer.

I remember Jeff Ward had the same issue, right?

Hope it`s all gone.

My father in law had a lung cancer, in a very late stage. He went through all kinds of therapy but it seemed nothing helped so they gave up. Doctors gave him half a year. That was 3 years ago. They ran some tests about 7 month ago and cancer is gone.

I've always thought that there should be a 24 hour news station that reports nothing but stories like this. The world could benefit from uplifting stories of people overcoming odds. We are constantly bombarded with negative shit every time we turn on the news and it wears me out.

No kidding man.

I lost my grandma to breast cancer when I was about 13. That is absolutely the worst way to watch someone go. I've never smoked a single cigarette out of fear for cancer and out of respect for my grandma. I wouldn't want to watch anyone go through that kind of slow death again.

Cancer is such an odd disease. So much money has gone to research and the best they've come up with is radiation that causes all kinds of nasty side effects.

Hope Ricky is all in the clearn now!

Gell well RC, my dad has had that stuff cut out way to many times. 3 or 4 in his neck, couple on chest and then had 11-12 small spots burnt off last week. He spent 30 years landscaping and at the moto races and the sun is trying to kick his ass.

Scary stuff for sure.

Us fair skinned folks are more prone to it, but anyone can get it.... - I go to the dermatologist once a year for a complete eval and scan for any potential issues....... growing up as a ginger on the beaches of SoCal certainly took its toll on my skin, so its best to catch things early.....I was going to say a few weeks ago, RV should have that lip checked out....my sister used to get that all the time...

Wish him the best. Had my second removed last Friday, waiting on the biopsy. Even though I am one of those olive skinned sun tolerant folks, the immune suppression regime opens the door up.

Fortunately, the most common skin cancers are not usually problematic if caught early; melanomas are dangerous, but relatively uncommon compared to the basal and squamous cell types.

I've been dealing with skin issues for the past 7 years. I started asparagus therapy about 2 weeks ago and it is already starting to clear up. no meds or cremes worked at all but the asparagus therapy seems to be legit.

I grew up staring at the sun rise surfing every morning until I was an adult. My parents would drop my sister and I at the beach with a warm 2 liter and a box of donut holes and our surfboards, fishing poles and mask/snorkel gear while they went to work since we were basically babies. Mostly on the strip at Fort Lauderdale. Someone call child services!!!!! I worked on jet ski and parasail for years as teen and been a fishing guide ever since. Didn't apply sun block. We were sun burnt 90 percent of life. My nose peeled every day... well still. I get the freeze gun a few times a year and I have had that same hole in me twice. Once they took a large chunk of meat like that out of my collarbone area that looks like there is just skin over bone but they got a huge chunck. My daughter had two like that on her back at 12. She wears sunblock. I still don't, I know dumb but I wear a long sleeve and a face buff every day. As a guide one drop of sunblock will kill all my bait in a second and I wake at 4am before my guests arrive and throw my 14 foot cast net and it can be tough so the bait is a prized cargo. Pilchards/scaled sardines are like gold they work so well. I do recommend everyone wear sunblock. The sun is dangerous.

Asparagus treatment? Care to elaborate?

I have worked out in the heat & sun w/o a hat or sunscreen most of my life...and now I'm getting some areas on my forehead that I'm a little worried about being cancerous. Haven't been to a dermatologist or anything, but at 55 it is an area of concern, you know? I'd be interested in a treatment that works.

Davis tld, For the treatment, asparagus should be cooked before using. Fresh or canned asparagus can be used. I have corresponded with the two leading canners of asparagus, Giant and Stokely, and I am satisfied that these brands contain no pesticides or preservatives. Place the cooked asparagus in a blender and liquefy to make a puree. Store in the refrigerator. Give the patient 4 full tablespoons twice daily, morning and evening. Patients usually show some improvement in 2-4 weeks. Davis, I am 44 and things like this are starting to become relevant.

on a serious note, i hope they got all that shit out. my dad has been getting spots frozen off his face for years, it's a scary deal. my uncle has been diagnosed with Melanoma and survived, grandma had a brain tumor and survived. i have a few scary spots on my chest and back but am too stubborn to get them checked out. maybe i'll get in one of these days, don't want to mess around with that shit.
