They're still massive in the UK, in fact, bigger than ever. Although it is plagued by Chinese bikes, there's still a pretty large community for the original Jap minis.

My first ever bike was the PW, got me used to stability on a bike, holding myself up, throttle control etc. Wasn't too quick that if I shot off someone couldn't run after me before I hit something. Would highly recommend going PW first, then moving on once the young one is comfortable.

Not really. I found that this weeks tracks were a little crappy. I look forward to seeing the new ones in about 6 hours though, mostly because I finally get the factory bike.
