About the same if I got OEM replacement parts.... I had plans to get the samco 1 piece hose assembly anyway.... So this was a great excuse to get rude with it

For sure, I bought the tool, heated it and still ended up leaving it in there for powder coat. Those things are a total PITA to remove. While the hammer comments are funny, they really don't apply here haha
My hammer comments were tongue-in-cheek, I wasn't being serial. MXKing seems lighthearted about it. After something like that happens all one can do is laugh it off and order a new part.

Ever try and remove a front wheel hub on an 06 Ram 3500? Oh boy did I get a good laugh on that one the first time....Laughing

The pipes as mentioned before are pretty tight with the loctite/sealer product they use
on it, only ones I've removed I heated them w/heat gun as much as I dared & used a
JS 440/550 Skat Trak prop tool that worked nicely. Also heard a 13mm allen can be
used in a pinch............

That's a pretty legitimate problem to have, it is a horrible piece and as mentioned before most of the people here probably wouldn't know anything about that part let alone how to get it out.

I was relying on the place I took my frame for powder coating having some thing to help get it out with them being a general haulage/fabrication/maintenance shop. We ended up drilling it at the top to get it out. Bad move KTM!

I have read if you get a 13mm Hex key that does the trick. I tried with a socket I cut notches out of but it just stripped the splines inside, I thought the socket wasn't deep enough but maybe if I had of heated the threads it may of done it

What process does KTM use that makes it that strong ?

KTM properly preps a new frame and powder coats it from the factory. All of the Japanese steel frame bikes I've owned had paint flaking off the welds before they ever got home and looked like ass after a couple rides. Quality stuff on the KTM. The pain in the ass t fitting is a very well thought out part until you need to remove it.... lol.

Funniest part about the guys throwing out a little grief to the OP is that not only do none of them probably own a nice set of basic tools, they probably don't own a single "special" tool. I ha e tons of tools and quit while I was ahead on the t fitting.

I'd bet a twenty that most of the people throwing grief couldn't install a set of KTM foot pegs! Now that was a damn job...almost died twice before doing a YouTube search to figure out how easy it was. G Damn Europeans!Laughing

I've never taken a KTM apart that wasn't properly greased from the factory. Just another little something that KTM does different from Japan.

Thank you Newmann!! I have every tool a dirt bike racer would ever need. Snap ring pliers, all the speciality stuff..... You name it. Every man get to the point where cost does not matter, you WILL prevail. I put a 10mm socket into the bottom down tube to keep it from crushing.... But just couldn't get the threads to break free. Lots of keyboard mechanics here blasting me...... But oh well. I'll put my personally built 250 SX up against anyone else's that they tuned and mod themselves. They will loose.

Why would you strip down a brand new bike that far? Judging by the destroyed part, I think it's unlikely you're a race shop!

I was going to send the suspension out, and re-check all the grease points that the factories tend to skimp on when it comes to grease. Then I decided if I was that deep I might as well powder coat the frame orange.....
Ktms come greased up... Race ready...? If anything you shoulda just done stem wheels and linkage. Good luck putting that 8k beauty back together...

I'm running the FTP-3 in my 13 250SX so that is the one you need. Don't worry about wrecking it, they are almost impossible to remove without damaging it. The beauty of the Samco piece is you can take it in and out as many times as you need to. I cut the rubber pieces of the original t-piece and modified them to fit over the Samco piece to keep the mud and grunge out.

Clearly manufacturers defect and a warranty issue.

Make sure your KTM shifter and kickstarter bolts stay tight, I 've seen my KTM owning buddies lose both.

Man I had fits with that thing too when I had my 09 frame powder coated. I also wound up going with the Samco hoses to eliminate that part. It's a clever design that works great until you need to remove it.

There is a spline inside the down tube that allows you to spin it out of the top cross piece. I refused to buy the tool so I attempted to use a pair of channel locks. It was so caked in loctite it wouldn't budge. It broke on the top at the threads so after that I knew it was fucked and just mutilated it to get it out.

'Framing' a bike is taking it down to just the frame.
Did the same thing with mine but sort of on purpose as I had already bought the silicone T to replace that POS stock T fitting. Mine was not coming loose, so I'm glad I mangled it and trashed it haha.

It's a common piece to break when taking it down to the frame. I had a professional AMA SX race shop tear mine down and powder coat my bike and the same piece broke even with the proper tool.

I lost a main engine mount bolt that is right under the shifter. I couldn't believe how much frame flex I could feel.... I thought the rear tire was flat!!!

Wow. I have done some dumb stuff to my bikes over the last forty years but this one makes me look like a factory mechanic.

Exact same thing happened to my buddy after he put his 250sx back together after Powder coating.

Don't think he loctited or greased any tightening points tho

You left it in there for the powder coating? How did that work out? Everything come out fine after? What about the rubber grommets on the outside?
Any help is appreciated, I just bought a 14 and plan on giving it the orange frame treatment soon. Also I see in this thread that sandblasting won't take the old powder off,did anyone here just powder over the original? I plan on doing this before riding The thing so the frame will be free of grease and other contaminants
Thanks

The guy who powder coated my frame had to bake it off. He tried stripping it off with what he usually uses, to no avail.... So he bought more potent striping agent.... Still didn't work.... So he put it in the oven and baked it off.
