I love coming on Vital and seeing all the bike projects. There's noting better than seeing someone resurrect a bike from the dead. Just got my fifty done and ready for spring! Post your before and after pix!

Don't have any before, but here's a couple I just finished cleaning up during our long winter months.

1983 YZ490 Before. I would end up going through this bike twice.

what a mess she was. Best learning experience I could ask for though. I had to replace every bearing and rebuild the motor top and bottom. She rips now though!!!

I don't have the mechanical skills... So I have to rely on Photoshop.Blush
JK105, Let me know if you want it removed, I don't want to ruin what will definitely be an awesome thread.Smile

1981 Maico After (sort of) I never really took any photos when I was done. I started racing it again the next weekend. Theses are about the best "after" shots I could find.

New plastic after a couple years. They sure don't stay restored for very long!

2002 xr 100. I was welding the shock mount on my little 50 (3rd pic) in another location at a friends house and a guy walking by offered it to me for $200 with title but he said it didn't run but when I went to his house to get it he was riding it so I gave him 250. It was pretty beat up but it was a fun build. My cousin has a shop in Ohio and is parting out a kx 85 and sending me the front end for it any day.

At the risk of coming across as a Nancy-Boy, I have to say–that is stunning.

YZ with CR 500 engine? Best looking conversion yet. Any chance of putting up a build thread?

That bike looks great! It looks super clean! Nice job on it!

Picked this pile up out of the dirt for $45. Broken triple clamps, bent bars, bent rotor. Cleaned the carb and tank, fired right up. Tweaked the rotor back in shape, set of $39 Evilbay forks, and threw a pair of old junior bmx bars on it. Just need to drill the lower clamp for some fork stop screws, a chain, and air filter.

I might even buy a fender for it.

This is a YZ250 engine. No build thread, but I can say it wasn't a straightforward conversion, apart from raising the Y in the front and having custom rads built. The intake and swingarm connexions were straight bolt-ons, and the exhaust fitment required no welding at all.

Some people say that conversions like this one handle like shit, and I agreed with them after the first ride. I learnt that the different engine requires different suspension setup. After working on the suspension settings for a while and adding a Ride Eng. link arm, I can say this bike handles like a dream. I can't wait to ride it back to back with a regular 250.
