Stock and I could start in 3rd gear when the gate dropped.
I like my "mellow" YZ450F and starts are still my favorite part of the moto.
Another vote for a CR500 (for MX). These things are CRAZY fun in the right conditions, sand/hills. Otherwise, too freakin much!
but it didn't stand a chance against the big Husky.
BTW I had a 2005 CR500AF conversion. Balanced, ported, etc etc etc. etc. I rode it MX for 4 years straight.
I still think my 2009 Kawi 450 would walk it. Tru story Bro.

listed in quickest order. never lost a drag race on the 500 2 strokes just drop it in 3rd and get them to run from a dead and full throttle launch and look back and watch them disappear. never had to race anyone but the quickest of the day. haha
gotta give thanks to RJ for the launch secrets of the 500's.

Road anything above 600cc I've owned is way faster than I want to go.

Ridden..
197? H3 750 (2-stroke triple) that had been stripped/lightened with pipes/carbs/port work. For acceleration it was terrifying grin inducing fast. For being stable at speed it was terrifying. Any of the new sport bikes are much faster on top end and 10 times more stable/better handling.
1983 KTM 500 and CR 500 were both the fastest (acceleration and top end) dirt bikes I've ridden.
It is not a popular American opinion, but I much prefer a lightweight solid motorcycle that accelerates really hard, vs something that just has a high top speed. How fast does it get to the next corner vs. How fast does it go?
And….would love to ride that triple 2-stoke dirt tracker in Bobby's post.
I tried my buddy's 93 CR500 and thought it was a baby compared to my katoom. I actually loved the CR and was mad I bought that KTM. Thankfully it had those sweet Marrizocchi conventional forks, and an Ohlins. Those were sweet.
