It's funny you say that, I interviewed Roger DeCoster after the race, and he did not seem happy with Dungey at all. In fact, I can't believe some of the stuff he said... You can check out the interview HERE, he says some really interesting stuff.
Great interview Lewis,

Roger could well have hit the nail squarely on the head, sometimes you can keep altering, changing and adjusting things, trying to Chase the best set-up,when at the end of the day you're better off concentrating on yourself

Some days you just plainly get beat

I would disagree
Tomac has been posting similar or faster lap times than the 450's in the nationals regularly
Nothing new there

If ktm's suck how did AC and JH win a championship, and roczen the sx title
why does everyone keep pointing to the 250f's having faster lap times than the 450's? A 250F and 125 have less horsepower and torque than a 450F and 250 ergo they have to keep their momentum up around the entire track.... that's why the small bores have equal or faster lap times, not that the rider is actually faster. Try to ride a 450F/250 like a 250F/125 and see what happens... it is a different riding style for a different type of motorcycle. Look at how long it took RV to get going on the big boar, I will argue that Barcia has had the same issue and look at Tomac when he road the 450 this year was he going faster than the top 5?????

In the last moto with 6 laps remaining USA had RD in 7th and JB in 12th.
They needed 4 more passes to win the overall. RD gained 0 and ended 7th, JB gained 1 pos and ended 11th.

So i think its fair too say that the competition in this field of awsome riders from around the world was stronger than both i as an euro and most US expected. Looking forward to 2014 and MXON in Lativa.

The track wasn't groomed like an interstate. Welcome back to MX boys.

That was my point dude
Today 's race showed this again with kenny and eli running away from the field in moto 2
the track favored the 250f, more nimble, easier to turn etc, Ferris running up front on the yami 250 as well

About the KTM/Suzuki and Dungey thing, i dunno wich one he feels better on, but the Japanese used to pay him 7 or 800 000$ a year, whereas KTM pays him over 2M$ a year (according to JT or Matthes). So.....

And to say roczen isn't confortable on a KTM is just plain silly.

If you're referring to the MXDN race, no. I have only seen a helmet cam of the track. Good try though.

How many of you guys actually watch enough gp's to say that he was off though? I think people forget that while the U.S. guys are racing supercross the euro guys are doing outdoor stuff. Year around. Paulin, Searle, and the rest of the guys in front of Dungey were flying. It's that simple.

Cairolli is a fkin beast BTW. Love watching that dude flow around the track.
Roczen and tomac didn't ride any differentlyWhistling

I'm a huge Dungey fan, but he lost the race for us. Extremely disappointed with his performance.

In the press conference Barcia said the track was tougher than our tracks and that it was difficult to find a track like that to practice on here. I'm paraphrasing.

i really agree with this , i dont think he looks half as good as he did on the suzuki IMO . and you are so right does nt mean its a bad bike , just seem not to suit him as much , reed did terrible on a kxf , and villo was doing very good on it , can t see why some people here cant get it in there head that some bike s suit riders better than others , end of the day roczen , dungey , TC222, would win on any bike but would Dungey be better on the suzuki , i think so , but he has signed to KTM for 2 years , but imo if roger was nt there , Dungey would not be at KTM ,
Spot on. He's certainly had some great rides aboard the KTM but nothing like when he was on the Zook. He was always "on" when he was riding yellow. Smashing the field at Freestone by 45sec before he ran out of gas, eating up a 10sec gap to pass RV at Milville, all in 2011 on the Zook. Ha someone mentioned him and preasure? Gimme a break, he's won all kinds of titles and anchored the MXdN team several times with smashing success. Now all the sudden he cant handle preasure? Something was def off today, who knows what. But weather he loves the KTM or not, he should have handled Paulin and Searle. Both great, great rider's so dont think I am taking them lightly. But they arent Ryan's level, he should have been at the front with AC. Just my opinion. Seeing Tomac out there today, I bet Dunge know's he's gonna have to deal with more than just Villo next year. Eli is for real, I dont see why he wouldnt be challenging for the Outdoor title next summer

X2, another huge Dungey fan but he spends way too much time following riders who are slower than him, he did it all year. If something doesn't change he will be going from being the best shot at beating RV to no longer a lock on podiums this year. It's not a bike issue, he was the same on Suzuki but RV and a few others have upped the game more than him so it now has more of an affect on the outcome. When you can still run the fastest lap with a clear track it's not the bike holding you back.

People keep saying this. Its bullshit. Dungey put in two very respectable results, even if they weren't what you guys were hoping for or expecting.

The reason you lost is because Tomac crashed out of third place which meant you couldn't afford the bad luck that Barcia encountered in the last race. Tomac was riding incredibly well but he was probably pushing a little bit harder than he really needed to - not saying that he was wrong for doing so, he's a racer obviously and he was trying hard to pass Roczen, but that self induced mistake is ultimately what cost Team USA in the end.

6-7 moto finishes are disappointing for Dungey. It doesn't matter where the track is. More is expected of him.

Well everyone has an opinion. Here's mine. I could be wrong and I might get flamed, but here it is.

Dungey either doesn't have his heart in this race or just can't perform under pressure when he is the leader of the team. He knew what he had to do in the last moto the last two years and just couldn't get it done. He knew going into the last two years of this race that he had to lead this team like he did in 2010. He had a fifth place start and went backwards. He was terrible by his standards the last two years. In 2011, he was fine when he had Villopoto there with him. In 2010, he was fine when he was comfortable on his own soil. In 2009, he was fine when the expectations were lower. Maybe he isn't comfortable laying it on the line just for the pride of his country. If that's the case then we need to find a replacement. Barcia's rides the last two years have shown me he truly cares about this race and wants that trophy more than anything. Assuming Villopoto is healthy next season I say Barcia keeps his MX3 spot.

This is all a matter of opinion of course and I'm a huge Dungey fan as anyone on this forum knows. However, you can't blame someone for at least questioning what the problem is after his last two MXoN performances.

I know I'm quoting myself but I had something to add. This the Dungey that needs to be on the gate at A1/Hangtown.

spot on right there. Tomac stays up and rides it "safely" home and you can throw out Barcia's 11th. Obviously though DeSalles went down in that "bad luck" as well so we will never know what the outcome may have been.....

Pretty hard to say there wasn't bad luck involved... BUT

Eli crashed putting in a superhuman effort, and did it again to salvage a 16th.

BamBam crashed but then put in a massive effort from maybe 35th to 11th or whatever.

Dungey had no such luck and just stunk it up.

It's not like the USA lost by 20 points. He could have gone a mediocre for him 4-4 and they woulda won!

The bikes sounded so crisp at 94db. Now they sound so muffled and "faded."

Bingo. Nailed it. Bull's eye. Faded from 2nd to 7th when the team needed him to rise to the occasion.

Hes mr consistant. He doesnt have that "edge" when he needs it. Still a good ride. Kinda expected. He shines in a long series cause of his consistancy. But when its a single race, and hes not comfartable, he doesnt have blazing speed.

I said it a few months back and am still saying that Dungey will not be on a KTM come A1. I don't have facts backing up my prediction but he cannot stand the bike, Kenny cannot stand the bike. I think we will see RD on RCH in January. I think that we saw Ryan basically throw his hands up and say "fuck this bike" around redbud this last summer and has basically mailed it in since then. Anyone seen any "official" PR saying he re-upped with KTM next year, cause I haven't.
When has Roczen said anything derogatory about the KTM?
9/29/2013 6:43pm Edited Date/Time 9/29/2013 6:44pm
I can't see the bikes being the problem...? Cairoli was smooth and flawless on his KTM. He didn't have any troubles.

I know that nobody wants to hear this but: perhaps there are some human beings in other parts of the world who are faster than some human beings in this part of the world? But that can't be. We are the best. Maybe not!!!!
As for Dunge not being able to adapt to the german track....That dirt looked no different than the East coast outdoor dirt of Steel City or High Point. Super rough, soft. Anyone else think that or do I have the blinders on???

So because of this one race all of sudden the US riders are slower than the ROTW?

Maybe you've forgotten about previous MXdN's or when Desalle and Stribos raced in the nationals?

Dungey, for whatever reason, was off.

There were a few times this year that a few US KTM mounted guys were saying they were having setup troubles with the suspension... But that's also the rider feedback and I believe a lot of it was the riding.

Not suprising to me that Kenny and Eli adapted best out of the US based guys... Lites bikes, Euro background and Eli is really good when the tracks are dirty.

I don't claim to know much but I kept getting pissed off watching some of RD's line choices today. In the second half of the 3rd moto every time he was close to whoever was in front of him, when he took that inside line on that tight left hander on the top of that hill that had the long rut that looked to be about two ft deep, he lost time every time and I was thinking wtf dude, try something different. Yes, I know that was a run-on sentence but I couldn't think of a better way to illustrate my point.

Post a reply to: Dungey WTF?
