So I was in Wal-Mart last night minding my own business. I had just come from cutting my grass at home and needed some sodas to go along with dinner my wife cooked. I happened to have on my racerX t-shirt with Ricky Carmichael on the front and back (Last perfect Season on his honda) and while walking the isles someone says "Thats a nice shirt!"
I quickly replied, "thanks" and kept on my way, but I happened to get a glimpse of his shirt and face.
Turns out it was none other than Jonathan Beasley (Owner of Budds Creek).
I turned around and shook his hand and we chatted for a minute. Very cool dude and down to earth. He asked if I raced, I told him I used to, then I proceeded to let him know that the Budds race was awesome again this year, and that I have gone to just about the last 7 or 8 Pro nationals there. All in all nothing spectacular but I was curious:
What is the weirdest place that you have run into a motocross Icon?

I was lucky enough to run into him later on in the day and have a 10 minute conversation with him. I've looked up to Doug for as long as I can remember because no matter what life throws at him, he always comes out on top. His story is inspirational at every level. He defines Gnarly.
Had him sign the jersey of the shop i was riding for.still have it.
Larry maiers was with him, back in espn motoworld days,i did not ask him to sign the jer s y,he seemed bummed.
A funny story goes with it,it was a hell of a weekend for sure
Not sure if it was 89 but i was there from 87 to 90 and it was one of those.
It was the year the start was long,4th gear deep ,then a 90 right into a monster double that i steped off just short of 100ft (158ft Florida measure)
It was scarry as hell, blind takeoff because the jumps were 10ft high. The tracks were so dangerous then wi t h peaked landingd were your frame would hit
Pit Row
Once I saw Larry Ward in a McDonalds drivethru near Southwick on raceday morning. Around 1991 or 92. Must have been ordering a McMotowin.. I think he won 1 Moto that day.
I saw Roger D. and JMB having breakfast in a Southwick diner on raceday... I wondered why Jeff Stanton wasn't there...lol
I was station in Germany with the Air Force in the 90's. I used to go motorcycle camping every weekend with my friends. We were meeting up at this centrally located gas station in the town of Sembach. This guy goes by on a HD FatBoy and waves and keeps on going. No big deal, happens all the time. Then he comes back and asked if we were Americans (we were and he was).
He gets around to telling us that he recently retired as a pro mx'er and doesn't need to work and is now travelling across Europe on his way to France to visit some relatives. End of story.
This story would be a whole lot better if I rememebered the guys name. Writing this will remind me to contact a friends with a better memory than me who may remember.
Even though it was kind of weird, I said, "I know this is weird but I'm a huge fan Jeremy" He laughed and said "no problem". After that I told him I had a friend that used to work at the grocery store with him, they were both box boys. Jeremy said "man , that was a long time ago!" He remembered my friend. He was there with Jimmy Button and some others to see the show.
