So I was in Wal-Mart last night minding my own business. I had just come from cutting my grass at home and needed some sodas to go along with dinner my wife cooked. I happened to have on my racerX t-shirt with Ricky Carmichael on the front and back (Last perfect Season on his honda) and while walking the isles someone says "Thats a nice shirt!"

I quickly replied, "thanks" and kept on my way, but I happened to get a glimpse of his shirt and face.

Turns out it was none other than Jonathan Beasley (Owner of Budds Creek).

I turned around and shook his hand and we chatted for a minute. Very cool dude and down to earth. He asked if I raced, I told him I used to, then I proceeded to let him know that the Budds race was awesome again this year, and that I have gone to just about the last 7 or 8 Pro nationals there. All in all nothing spectacular but I was curious:

What is the weirdest place that you have run into a motocross Icon?

I saw LL-Cool-G at Mardi Gras (strip club) in Springfield, Ma after the southwick national a number of years ago. At the time he was teammates with Tedesco under the Monster Energy Kawasaki rig. He was cool as a cucumber and when I went up to just say Hey, he greeted me like it was no big deal
he was at a titty bar !

I saw Jake Weimer at the AM/PM after Washougal this year. Told him good ride and that Bud Light was a much better post race drink than Dasani. He said okay and I told him I'd buy him one next year. Then he said he's more of a Coors guy and I said "still getting Bud Light." He was pretty chill for sure.

I saw someone famous last month at the Spy and Gadgets shop buying lasers a few weeks back. He was shining the laser in my eyes at the time and when I could focus again, I notice it was non other then Jeff Alessi just chillin out buying lasers for a future motocross product idea. I thought was cool he might use such technology and was thinking ahead like that. Anyway, we shook hands and went on with my own business. Still not sure what the lasers are for, must be some top secret thing maybe to measure or level a bike or adjust the sag on the bike. Who knows.

Hey I met Oliver North in the Miami, and the former CEO of Continental Airlines, Gordon Bethune. I also got a personal post card from Rick Johnson as part of the RJ fan club. Had pics and talked to Kevin Windham and Mike Alessi. It's funny how one encounter can make you and instant fan. i didnt expect these guys to be as cool as they are.

Every year I participate in a team tri race involving a run, bike, and canoe in my hometown of Auburn, NY. It's one of those little big deals with regional recognition. I saw the back of a guy in a chair with a bunch of moto stickers on the seat back and knew it was Doug Henry. I gave him some knuckles and let him continue on his way - He was also participating in the race and completed a 25 mile hilly bike ride pedalling with his arms, then canoed 4 miles in Owasco Lake to complete the race with his teammate.
I was lucky enough to run into him later on in the day and have a 10 minute conversation with him. I've looked up to Doug for as long as I can remember because no matter what life throws at him, he always comes out on top. His story is inspirational at every level. He defines Gnarly.

Several years ago while living with my parents my neighbor was Shane Drew from team Honda muscle milk and still is, he was helping me rebuild my 125 in my garage and the next thing I knew Travis Preston came walking in trying to get his practice bike from Shane that he had trucked home for him... that was pretty cool to have both of them around at my house I was pretty young and speechless...

Yes,i recall racing in 27 degrees with at least a 25mph wind.

Not sure if it was 89 but i was there from 87 to 90 and it was one of those.

It was the year the start was long,4th gear deep ,then a 90 right into a monster double that i steped off just short of 100ft (158ft Florida measure)

It was scarry as hell, blind takeoff because the jumps were 10ft high. The tracks were so dangerous then wi t h peaked landingd were your frame would hit

John Tomac at staging area for the Branson MX race. Nobody knew him, but I was chatting with him for a while. We talked about mtn bikes for a while. He said he wasn't riding much, just doing the vet class and traveling around hitting the big races with his son, who was riding a 50. I told him I didn't think his son had what it takes to make it to the next level (ok, the last part i just made up)

Back in 1979 I lived in Phoenix. My brother-in-law and my best friend at the time drove out to California for the Carlsbad GP. We stopped in El Cahjon at a strip nall that had a 7 Eleven to get a Big Gulp and there was a van parked outside. I looked in the back window and there were two Huskys a 250 and 390. I look up and there was Chuck Sun walking toward us. We all introduced our selfs and I asked him what he was doing down here. He said he was doing his laundry. I thought it was pretty funny. He was getting his stuff ready for the GP. He was the first real MX guy I ever bumped into. That was the start of an amazing weekend.

Not that unusual but this is all I got..

Once I saw Larry Ward in a McDonalds drivethru near Southwick on raceday morning. Around 1991 or 92. Must have been ordering a McMotowin.. I think he won 1 Moto that day.

I saw Roger D. and JMB having breakfast in a Southwick diner on raceday... I wondered why Jeff Stanton wasn't there...lol

I can't remember the guys name, so I don't know if he is an icon or not, but here is the story.
I was station in Germany with the Air Force in the 90's. I used to go motorcycle camping every weekend with my friends. We were meeting up at this centrally located gas station in the town of Sembach. This guy goes by on a HD FatBoy and waves and keeps on going. No big deal, happens all the time. Then he comes back and asked if we were Americans (we were and he was).
He gets around to telling us that he recently retired as a pro mx'er and doesn't need to work and is now travelling across Europe on his way to France to visit some relatives. End of story.

This story would be a whole lot better if I rememebered the guys name. Writing this will remind me to contact a friends with a better memory than me who may remember.

I was balls deep in this chick at the Hard Rock in Vegas in 1997 when in walked Fro. He had on one of his Shift tuxedos. So I look over and he looks at me and says, "Next!", then tags me out, hands me a bottle of Dom, and goes to work...

I saw Jeff Stanton at a Journeys shoe store in the Oaks mall in Thousand Oaks 1991. He had just won MXdN and was getting ready for SX. Super cool. He was surprised I recognized him and then I congratulated him on USA win he was really stoked. I was 18-19. Always remember that.

I was in Vegas for the SX final, but the night before we went to see Cirque Du Soleil. Just prior to the doors opening, I went in to use the mens room. As I was standing at the urinal I heard a familiar sounding voice that was talking to someone else. As he came and stood in the urinal next to me. It was MC!

Even though it was kind of weird, I said, "I know this is weird but I'm a huge fan Jeremy" He laughed and said "no problem". After that I told him I had a friend that used to work at the grocery store with him, they were both box boys. Jeremy said "man , that was a long time ago!" He remembered my friend. He was there with Jimmy Button and some others to see the show.
