How about a good story ? I met Steve back in 1995, at around 2am in the morning in an AOL MX Chat room haha I was an insomniac then, along with my friend Diane (BuzzedRU). We all became good friends, he helped me do the Jeremy McGrath AOL MX Chatroom chats. I texted Jeremy yesterday to let him know, him and Steve were friends and Jeremy will agree that Steve brought his career into a whole nother realm of popularity with all the exposure Steve gave Jeremy. If he couldn't make a race (which was rarely) he would send me to be the Guest "TFS" for the weekend. He took me to Paris SX, along with Michelle Griffith in 1997, among oodles of other races. My first east coast National at Mount Morris was all thanks to Steve. Steve's a good guy, can't even tell you how many people we met and that hung out at his TFS rig over the years. Steve raced MX in the 70's, so it wasn't like he didn't know moto, he was core moto !

For those of you who don't know, Steve was the First Photographer who used a digital camera at the races and the first guy to have his digital photos published in the newspapers and mags. I won't say he was the first Moto Chat-board, but he perfected it beyond all belief, most of you are here probably because Steve got you hooked on chat-boards. We all use to wait a week to get Cycle News to find out who won a race, or if you were lucky and knew a mechanic or rider they'd call you and tell you. Man Steve brought it to life, he would friggin text/email on aol live to everyone on his board, he would give you pics and play by play, I am serious when I say he changed MX forever and all people in the industry know it. Steve is a true pioneer, again I am honored to call him a friend and love him dearly. Steve keep fighting !

TFS booted me from Bushwood, but that's ok, I deserved it Teefus.

Keep on fighting!

I, for one, did not know all of this!

Thanks for the history lesson. I hope TFS battles thru this. I really really love that pic of him flying through the air on his dual sport! So sick! Woohoo

So many great memories of crazy funny stuff he has done. Pit Bike nationals, Heated arguments on MotoTalk, pranks played on too many to name............but one thing that stood out in my memory was what Steve did for a kid that I was giving a tour of the pits at an SX round. Steve saw me and came over to say hello , he had heard we were giving a special kid his dream SX experience and went out of his way to give the kid some stickers, chat with him for a while and take his picture inside the rig. The kids eyes lit up and he was so happy that someone would take his photo. He didn't have to do that....he just did it.

So for all the hard edged rhetoric and infamous snide remarks there aren't many that could match him itellectually or heart and soul.

Keep pulling TeeFus....even those who were your rivals wish the best for you.

I am so sad to hear of this!

There are not many people I like better then my old friend BoTefus......

This past weekend, I was just looking at some pictures he took at my place when he was staying with me on the farm........man I liked seeing that motorhome in my driveway.....and the van before that......and the shit-box cars before that.

From one OG to another.........get through this you tuff SOB!!!! I want to spend some more time talking about the "YELLOW BOARD" days with you you funny bastard........who will help me remember all the stupid stuff that flew our way???

I will be hugging your plush-toy when I get home and breaking out a TFS sticker in your honor. I told you I would be saving them for something special.......well......you're pretty special to me my friend, GET WELL (not soon) NOW!!!

That's exactly it, I spoke to Mike this morning. As much as Steve is fighting, it's coming all down to quality of life, his body is fighting yes, but Steve himself is not, his heart is damaged, his stomach is damaged, and possibly his brain is damaged. They won't know yet, but the window is closing, 48 hours seems to be the magic number and we are up to 36 or so. Keep Steve in your thoughts and prayers. I have been collecting the emails that people have been sending and will get those to Steve's family. Mike and I also talked about the Tennessee National, regardless of the outcome he thought Steve's Moto-Family should all meet there to celebrate TFS. OH and Steve's Birthday is this Friday ! Wish him a Happy Birthday ~

Would you mind giving me a little info on his stomach issues? If not, I understand. Just curious, since both Teefus and I sorta agree on diet.

Best wishes to Steve & his fam. Like Dave & others have said, he liked to play an arsehole on the web at times, but in "real-life", he was one of the good guys in MX. Have some good memories of him. Glad he's off the vent, hope he pulls out of this. Would be a huge loss to MX...he is a pioneer in the sport whether some people want to admit it or not. I can't help but think he'd be smirking at the irony of people sending prayers his way. Thx for the updates on his condition...//TJ

Very best wishes to Steve!

He's a very nice guy of whom I had the pleasure to meet quite a few years ago at an SF Supercross. He talked my ear off!

Kick ass Teefus!!

pretty sure he gave some detail on that several months back--at least in general. I think it happened in the early '90s if I understood what he said.

Might check the Paleo Diet thread I started about 6 months ago.

Nice to read about all your great IRL moments with TFS, here is another classic on-line moment with TFS by Yamaboy. Also starring Nerd.

It's in Non-moto under the Muscle Milk thread he writes about it. I just cut and pasted one of his many posts:

"Choppy wrote: If you truly had UC you still have it. It can go into remission, and I've seen people that have had 20+ years but its still there. The problem with things like UC, Crohns etc especially at very early stages is that it's very hard to diagnose. People will get false positives with the blood tests and taking aspirin or other things can make it look like you have UC etc during an upper or lower GI exam."

TFS Wrote: I did but I don't have it and can't get it again. They treated it with prednisone and eventually the whole colon was removed and replaced with a pouch made from small intestine. It did pretty well for twenty years but messed up in 2011, and it took a surgeon most of the year to fix it. They took me off prednisone cold turkey, which turned out to be the beginning of a very long nightmare. That's when weight shot up and my thyroid went out. All the time I was running around shooting moto, adrenals were shot to hell. Prednisone withdrawal kills adrenals. I guess my surgeon read the wrong research a paper.

Hang in there Big Fella, there's a bunch of people praying and pulling for you!! I finally met TFS at a gas station near the Denver Airport 3 yrs ago while attending the MXdN. Such a legend and so glad I took the time to have a quick conversation with him. Huge amounts of respect for TFS.

Wow hate to hear this. Our families thoughts are with you Steve. The first time I met him my wife and I were coming off of track walk at Daytona and came up to Steve and introduced myself. We had talked many times here and DMXS chat. Some guy next to him says "hey Don't forget about me WordNerd". I then offered Steve a picture with my "milf". And he was happy as Cox snapped some shots. It was a great day. We walked the track with just RC and my wife, Suzuki takes him away and we played in the woops with the DMXS crew and then met TFS and Cox on the way out. Good people all the way around. Get well soon.
Oh yea I had my kid looking for him at the Nasa space center while she was there for school a few times as well.
