That's awesome!
Dowd is amazing!

Would love to see Dowd line up/qualify for a national at age 50....
Only 4 more years to go.....and I bet he could pull it off.

It is impressive that he set the record for oldest national winner at 32 years old back in 1998 and he is still out there 14 years later.

Didn't the rule used to be you only had to score 1 point to keep your number??? then they upped it to 25??? Ya, huge props to Dowd, hope he keeps his number for years to come...

Yes the rule is 25 now. 15 more to go for Dowd. Hopefully he can do it at Southwick. Not sure if he's doing Unadilla again this year.

Brown mentioned that the heat is what got to him the most. I can relate to that at 45. I was dying out on the track today in 90 deg and 80-85% humidity.

Does that mean I should be ashamed of my generation? Pretty incredible that the winner of the class is less than half Dowd's age. Both Junkyard and Brown are amazing athletes.

Just for a frame of reference:

Southwick 1989:

3rd John Dowd with a 4 - 5

9th Bob Hannah with a 3 -33

Bangin' bars with the "Hurricane" and this was Dowd's 3rd year racing Southwick.

In road racing, I have seen guys in their late 50, early 60's and they are at the front of the pack in the expert class!! One guy a retired pro MX rider who has been riding street bikes for only 7 years now!!

And some people here thought he had no business racing, taking up a space that some privateer could have had.

I bet Ryan Hughes just crapped his pants!

Man, the Junkyard sure is inspiring. The speed to place 13th is impressive enough, but the fitness to do it in the second moto is just mind blowing!

Remember Dowd in '86 in the NESC 250 Amateur (AKA "B") class. He won the championship, while I was mid pack. Then just a couple years later he is running with the factory guys at the Southwick national. Amazing and inspiring to see him out there so many years later keeping his national number, and whipping most of the local experts when he races NESC.

Imagine if he would have gotten on a bike when he was 5 instead of 16.

This is all I got. Dowdy racing at Englishtown, NJ - Kawasaki ROC - 1992? He had a super cool translucent green chest protector.
