TWMX thinks $5200 is a "budget rebuild" for an 09 CRF450.
"we attempted to bring the trusty thumper back to its once pristine condition"

For 5200 bones I can get 2 06 CRF 450's off craiglist and have 1 race bike and a practice bike and sell the clapped out fucker and recoup some money. Those guys idea of a budget build sucks ballz.

dude, this was no budget build; did you read what they did to this thing?

lots of very unnecessary parts in a "budget build"

Cylinder Works +3mm big bore kit

Hot Cams - Stage Two Cam (no springs required) 2009-12 CRF450R

FMF Racing - Stainless Steel Megabomb Header

Powercore 4 Muffler

Injectioneering - Throttle Body Modifications

CV4 - Formed Silicone Coolant Hoses (those were two hundred bucks!)

Parapros - Motor Assembly (MOTOR ASSEMBLY!?!? you paid someone to assemble your motor on a budget build?)

Renthal Fat Bars

some expenseive backgrounds

Works connection Elite perch and front and rear brake cap

all new plastics in addition to graphics

custom cool seat cover

Hinson Inner hub/pressure plate kit/billet clutch basket (REALLY? on a budget build)

I'm not saying that there wasn't lots more listed; these were the things that jumped out as "perhaps slightly not in the "budget" category".

I'd call that "the pimp-ass perfect" rebuild; not "budget". If they call that a budget rebuild; I'd love to buy a bike from them that they label as the "gnarly rebuild".

Or, an 07 yz250 with a complete top and bottom end rebuild (big bore cylinder and piston even), revalved and resprung suspension, and fully new plastic and graphics, for the cost of the "rebuild"

Fairly sure it's just a lame attempt at advertising.

Considering what that thing cost new, lets be conservative and say 6,500... thats $11,000 on a bike in 3 years. divide that by the 180 hour run time, and you get $61.11 an hour to run the thing. So pretty much we are screwed if we buy used, or new.

Not to mention gas, oil, oil filters, air filers/supplies, track fees, tires, chains/sprockets.

I hate to sound like an old man but we need Rick Siemen back. The industry is losing touch with the real world. Seems that very few of these people see beyond the circus they attend every weekend.

Not that TWMX had much credibility to begin with, but now they have zero as far as I'm concerned. Five grand on a budget rebuild. I'm offended!

Come on TWMX! What was the intent of the build? To make an 09 faster and handle better or to bring it back to life? for less than half that cost you could easily freshen up that bike.

My winter budget rebuild was 600 bucks. Hone cylinder, OEM piston, rings, stainless valves, and new rod.

I think it's pretty clear that it's not a weekend warrior build, it's a privateer build. You'd be fairly hard pressed to find a privateer out there on a bike that's less than $10k. So, all of you guys taking serious offense to YOUR budget, it's not about YOUR budget, it's about a privateer. (So I would assume)

Ummm,

The guy they built it for is not a privateer.

This article is a classic example, from many, of why I no longer read TWMX. I could write an article for them right now about the new 2013 bikes and be just as informative. And I could even write an article about XYZ suspension company rebuild for the said 2013 bike.

For sure, a commercial for their advertisers and a cool rebuild is what that was.

TWMX has fallen off the radar... Sorry Donn.

TWMX just seems like a forum to sell print media advertisements imo; which every magazine does to a certain extent. TWMX hardly ever has any substance to their mag. To the casual person/non-rider the Transworld name carries weight, so they do bring some new people into the motocross audience arena.

At the other end of the spectrum; MXA and RACERX truly cater to the core fans and riders within MX and SX by providing 3/4 of the magazine as substantial articles. Not 1/4 articles to the 3/4 advertisement ratio that TWMX uses.

TWMX is garbage..the only thing they're good for is FMX coverage.

If they really wanted to call it a budget build they would of picked the parts off ebay and did whatever work themselves)

my mates building a 'budget' build cr250 and alot of the parts he needed were obtained off ebay..and off crf's at that.

TWMX should just stop wasting trees and go out of business already

If Donn had to pay for that stuff out of his own personal checking account instead of getting it for free, this dumb- ass article would have never made it to publication.

Fail.

When it comes to any fourstroke it will never be a budget build.!! If you have no intensions on replaceing valves or pistons and cams. Then and only then maybe you could say its a budget build.. BUT lets say you split the cases and did not replace any parts. Well save money cause you just waisted your time.. Its going to blow as soon as you put it back together... Save your money and buy a two stroke to do your budget build with... It will be far more rewarding.!!!Wink

A custom gripper seat cover for $39.99? Hmm...
(checks website)
A solid color gripper seat cover is listed at $50 before shipping. Special magazine price? Dry
