Dug up some old trail threads that were headed to the Cyber Black Hole so I decided to group some together before they were GONE.
These XR 400 pics are my First Dual Sport Dayz eight short years ago and realizing how cool it is to ride down the street and when you see the COPS you don't havta look for a getaway.... hehehe (But I must admit the first few times my heart raced--old habits are hard to break....)
Also leaving from your house w/o loading up and driving, just riding to a trailhead from your driveway is an added bonus.
Arizona has had some good precipitation this winter and we were rewarded with a desert that has lit up in color. There’s a certain beauty in the Sonoron desert like no other place around. Plants and trees have to be very hearty as surviving in the brutal summer with no rain takes it toll. Hope you enjoy.
My buddies Scott & Bruce wishing I would hurry up and take the damn picture!

I dragged Scott off the track to trailride.

Four Peaks in the distance.

I have recently got my XR400 licensed for the street and have been having a great time exploring. Here are some pics from a recent 150 mile ride. 8-)

The top of Four Peaks with Bill and Mike.

The backside of Four Peaks heading down to Roosevelt Lake. We went from sweating our ass off on a rocky hillclimb to cold conditions. :o

I never knew owning a XR400 could be so much fun.

Overlooking Apache Lake. On this ride we would go by Saguaro, Roosevelt, Apache and Canyon Lake. And people think AZ is dry, barren and dusty…..shhhhhhh don’t tell anyone.

The top of Apache Trail

Red Mountain

Up on the cliff there were some old Indian grinding holes.

Final destination––The Mammoth Saloon, looking at the infamous Superstition Mountains at sunset and the trusty steed that got me hooked....

Day after a Rain in the Dez—it does not get much better than this and leaves me smiling the whole day….

It’s hard to believe after living in AZ for 22yrs that I have only been in Flagstaff one time for a desert race way back in 1988. This is when I met Johnny aka Tripletime…
This Loop was sweet. I rode this Friday three times, in different directions.

View from the cockpit.

AJ and Mojo luv camping in the woods, they had a rough night—much like their owner.

I’m starting to wonder if this BIG ol BEAST is the bike for tight 1st and 2nd gear Singletrack—the answer is no! lol

Everyone was bright-eyed and chipper Saturday morning for the BIG RIDE around the San Francisco Peaks. About a half hour later, two turned back. It was that tough! Most of the trail was littered with boulders and fallen trees—whoever went up there with a chainsaw to cut a path is to be commended.

Taking a break

Bill made it up a tricky rock infested hill climb.

Johnny’s body language tells a story>>>>

Lunch Break

More than once I was wishing I had my “nimble 450” as my big ol beast was a bear in the woods. I was lucky to hit third gear a few times.

We were way up there—my GPS recorded an elevation of 8600ft! I won’t get into the sad details of ride time vs stop (wait) time. lol

This is where we took the bailout as we were way behind schedule and most of us were pretty whipped.

WTF is this WHITE STUFF! I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen it.

Cary had a great time as evidenced by his ear to ear grin.

Johnny is a Cali recruit who just re-located to Anthem AZ. In the first two weeks he had a lot of stuff stolen. Welcome to Phoenix huh? I promised to show him a much better side of AZ in the future.

My good bud Donny and his wife Cathy hit the lotto and scored some land up North out of the heat. They invited us up for the 4th of July weekend and Donny surprised me with his new “Secret Weapon”! He Dual Sported his CR 500, much to my surprise as he never gave me a hint of his extensive project.

Seeing how Don had never explored the trails he asked me to go along and with the confidence of my trusty GPS we were able to reach the outer regions and found some beautiful country. To me this kind of riding is good for the soul..... No worries here mate.

Matter of fact one night a pretty large Bear rifled through the neighbors garbage as we stood there with floodlights on him. He did not miss a beat and went back for more. It was pretty cool.
Donny loves to tinker and is an excellent wrench. Jetting changes on the fly are fun to him. I watched, while giving pointers, sipping a frosty cold one (well maybe not that cold) but the Tecate still tasted mighty fine...

Sure does beat 112 degree heat!

I recommend riding DualSport for anyone that likes to explore and get back to the roots of dirt biking.
That’s all folks hope you enjoyed the pics.

Pretty Cool Gary!
Next time take more pictures, oh wait when did you have time to ride, taking all of those pictures?
Don't see the Desert with that much "greenery" very often!
Looks like you had fun!

DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
Last weekend 6 of us dual sported from the Prescott area to the little mining town of Crown King.
Stayed the night and rode back, made a short ride long linking jeep roads to single track. Was a blast.
Thankyou.
Nice
But I've seen these pictures, somewhere else?
Deja vu
That's a montage of pics from different rides. They were headed to the Cyber-Black-Hole so I decided to group some together--hence the deju vu....
Sheesh that's not including the AMA D-37 and ADR rides which is a whole other story that's a freaken blast, riding with 400 to 500 other wacko's!
Anyone want to come out and ride let me know.
I don't have GPS tracks, I'm real basic on that baby....
Can someone marry me please!? I need a green card.
Pit Row
PS I don't see BoobyM in the pics? He didn't get invited this time either?
It’s not as inviting as it looks—if you go off trail there are bowling ball sized boulders and every bush/plant has THORNS! Have you ever heard of JUMPING CACTUS? It is the devils plant--I'm convinced....
But yea the scenery can be breathtaking—hence the habit of taking pics to share with friends and family.
Daisy Fuentes
as usual good pics you squid, wish i was there i woulda kicked all yer ass's.
My ol buddy from Eagle Rock, Donny Sieverston came by a couple Thanksgivings ago as we were prepping for Bee to Vee to show us his new ride—looked pretty damn SWEET!
Post a reply to: OT--Anyone ride dirt bikes?
