KTMs getting too expensive?

According to a friend at my local shop, their KTMs are going up about $1000 due to the value of the dollar, and he said KTM is seriously considering moving all their manufacturing to India...So the final old European motocross marque goes down the toilet? Very sad. Husqvarna, Maico, CZ, KTM, Bultaco, Montessa, Ossa - all gone.

Dude Husqvarna isn't gone. We have a new team coming into the WORCS that is going to be running the TC450's. The new bikes are very euro still but they are also very cool.

KTMs have always been overpriced for how competitive they are, IMO. For MX, anyway.

I was told by my local KTM dealer that the 80's were going to be over $5k and if I remember correctly he said the 450sx would be $8K

KTM have always been expensive, they definitely have a higher build quality, but they are not necessarily better to ride..but the dollar is really weak right now, and I'm sure that doesn't help.

I'm not bashing them, I'm just saying they're not the old-world Swedish Huskys we grew up with. They're an equivalent to the TMs.

I have and if you like Japanese bikes and hate KTM's you're not going to care for a Husqvarna either. Husqvarnas work but not for fairgrounds or supercross style stuff. Fast outdoors and GP style stuff they work great and they have a linkage. With proper set up they run with anything outdoors for most people.

If you don't like visitors and don't want to answer a million questions at the track don't get one either.

The KTM comes ready to race and at least in off road are trully competetive right out of the box. But that extra $1000. next year is going to be tough to swallow.
You could take that 1000 plus the other 1000 you save by buying a yz and build a top level gncc bike with the difference.

Just curious why do KTMs come ready to race? Or more like how? Ive owned my fair share of ktms including a 08 and its funny how people say there ready to race.. Compared to what? Because they have black rims and polished hubs and a oversize brake rotor makes them "Ready to race"? lol My stock 08 honda 450 is much more "ready to race" than any ktm made..If you took 10 people and let them ride a ktm or honda/yamaha/kawi I bet 8 out of 10 would prefer a jap bike.. The ktms feel nervous, they have a tall feeling and just nervous imo but everyone has there likes and dislikes.. But imo ktms are no more "ready to race" than any other bike, little nicnacs like easy air filter access and steel braded lines dont help the forks or shock on a ktm.

Ive owned two KTM's over the past 2 years and they have been flawless. I race offroad, but still they are bullet proof bikes. My 07 450XC has over 3k races miles on it and I haven't even touched the valves. I raced the 07 Baja500 and followed that up 2 months later by racing Vegas to Reno. Thats 1000 miles right there, and I never touched the engine. I cant say that about my past Honda's. The motors didn't last worth a shit. We were lucky to get one race out of them in between rebuilds. That got old really quick! The KTM's are really high quality bikes, you just have to pay for it up front. But its worth it.

Hmm I blew my 04 ktm 450 while that was getting fixed I bought a 04 ktm 525 sx swapped suspension and blew that bike up at Hangtown race .. Air filters always changed evry single ride and oil evry hour usually 1 ride.. Eric Nye that rides factory ktms in Canada is a buddy seen him blow two 08 250 sxf up.. I dunno I guess some people have great luck with them I never have.. I dunno what year your Hondas were but I know people that have 130-160 hours on there 07's crfs with zero issues with valves..I had a ktm 08 xcf 505 and it was a sweet bike but after 4 revalves I had to sell it I couldnt deal with the forks..

That is if you could discuses the bikes so the riders didn’t know which bike they were riding. Nothing wrong with the KTMs. Let’s face it people, KTMs get a bad rap and most of you week end warriors have never ridden one. It’s just cool to bash the KTMs.

For me they do if I have a Jap bike, had an 08 RMZ450 I need to change triple clamps bars seat foam, with the KTM, I just get the suspension done and they are ready to go for me.

Bullshit, some asshat has been grinding on the head on those bikes and not KTM america. No need to touch these bikes other than a pipe and having someone who knows how to properly jet the bike.

These bike are bullet proof.

Factoryphoto never owned a 06', 07', or 08'CRF 250. Can't keep the valves in these bikes, but I guess that depends on whether you're showing off for your kids & wife in the backyard or pushing them hard on the track

Yeah, I blew up my 04 450sx, that was my first KTM coming from Yamaha, but decided to give them another go, so got another one and never had a problem since, got an 05 525sx was bomb proof, and every other one I have had since has been the same. Have seen a couple of 08 250f with problems, due to the cam chain tensioners failing and they jump the timing, my friends was one.
I have seen a lot of 450 Hondas go bang this year and I mean a serious amount all gearbox problems.
It is just your luck with most bikes I think.
