I said this elsewhere, but RV is shaking his head as he goes by Stewart in the whoops last night. That speaks volumes of what other riders are thinking about it.
Can anyone think of a MX/SX title contender that crashed himself out of so many races in one season, ever?
1. Reed (Lost count really, but let's just mention the out-of-control take-out from behind in the whoops a couple of weeks ago)
2. Windham twice (last night, apparently, and he also pushed his bike into his way as he got up after his crash with Reed at Anaheim(?) a couple of years ago)
3. Carmichael (Jumped on his head...)
4. That kid over the triple last year, forget who it was.
5. Tedesco (rode back onto the track without looking on the landing of a double when Tedesco was already in the air)
6. Wasn't there somebody in Toronto?
7. James Stewart (He's cleaned himself out more times than even he can remember)
There must be more that I can't remember off the top of my head
Now, make a similar list for any one other single rider and see if you get as many.
Pushing the limit is one thing. Habitually injuring other riders while riding over his head is another, not to mention hazardous and dangerous.
In many many years of racing and going to races, I've never once wished an injury on anyone... but after watching him blow up JT like that earlier in the season, it'd been all right with me if Chad hadn't been there to keep JS from exploding into the stands in Dallas. Pretty tired of seeing friends of mine (JT) and riders who deserve immense respect (KW and CR) -- with something like 350-400 SX main events between the three of them -- pay the price for Stewart's self-centered recklessness.
That's not "just racing"... it's just stupid. No, it's more than stupid. It's just wrong.
I am huge RC fan, but no one knocked down more people, road more aggressively, and took more big chances than him.
I have seen the mofo ride a couple of times, so much talent it's creepy, and I couldn't care less if he's the devil himself (which he's not). Him not riding is like putting Kate Beckinsale in a burka. It's just doesn't make sense.
Although #7 isn't my favorite rider, and I'd rather see Villopoto, Reed, or Windham beat him in any given race, I still want to see the guy ride, he's amazing on a bike.
I don't understand why anybody wouldn't want to see as many of the top riders out there as possible. That's what makes it exciting as a fan. The more fast guys in the mix, the better, IMO.
Pit Row
Of course, he isn't going to do it so we are all talking out of our ass, but the thought of him doing it is awesome!
The guy is a genius on a dirtbike and he makes this shit exciting.
Also, watching James ride lap after lap during practice, qualifying and mains with so much faster speed means he has to pass A LOT of riders and I saw how he backed down, screwed up his qualifying time and repeatedly took other lines to avoid all the road blocks he constant has to overcome... I guess if you are as fast as Stew, you increase the risk to hit someone...
And this is all based on the fact that Windham actually hitting him?
