With Webb being lapped in the main at East Rutherford, yet still in the championship hunt, I was wondering; has there ever been a champ who was lapped in the same season they won?
Not meaning due to crash n burns, just straight up lapped. Mud or no mud.

Stick a fork in him, he’s done
AMA has the results of tonight’s race up, but still shows points at being only 6 between Tomac and Webb. Weird! Shows Tomac at 292 and Webb at 286.
Tomac 315
Webb 304

Not sure but didn't RV fail to qualify for a main in one of his championship seasons?

yea i think jacksonville 2011.
Jacksonville 2011 RV failed to make the main and still won the SX title.
JS7 only made it one lap at Anaheim 1 in 2009 and still won the SX title.
Think Dunge got lapped by KW in Seattle in his 2010 championship season.
JS7 and CR22 A1 crash in 09 wasn’t on the 2nd lap…
Pretty sure Villopoto got lapped at A1 in 2013 but he did crash
Checked that out- Dunge finished 4th and sealed the championship that night. Windham lapped to 10th, so it wasn’t there.
That was a weird race by Villopoto. Bad start, mid pack, but was battling with Stewart for only 8th place half way through the race and crashed, got back on but was lapped. Millsaps won.
Chad reed was lapped, and won still but that was due to injury.
Which year?
08 Detroit Reedy got 12th and lapped going otb when his Yamaha cut out on an on/off and he broke his scapula, coughing blood, went to ER and came back to the track to get the 12th.
Love to see it
I know I‘m gonna get heat for this, but as a serious question:
Has there ever been a multi time supercross champion with less pure bike skills?
bad night for my boy,...
Compared to what? Some nights his “skill” is unmatched.
Pit Row
I’d say his bike skills is the reason for the two championships because it isn’t the pure speed. He’s normally better than most in the mud, last night was off for him. His one National win was in a mud race
"schooled"
Cornercross was not in play and the Webb Wagon had to pull over or get rolled. Bam, Bam ,Bam...
Yes he crashed in practice got released from the hospital and still ran the race.
Did Tomac end up lapping Web last night as well, or was it just Barcia that got him?
Looks like his championship is over.
Wasn’t that the night that Stew didn’t finish the main or something like that after a big crash off the start?
Don’t get me wrong. He deserves his championships, is a bad dude and his racecraft and grittiness are all time.
However, when I watch him ride, I just can‘t see the raw speed, skill and wow factor of the other multi-time supercross champs. And his whoop speed is kinda embarrassing in comparison..
edit: typo
Harsh but fair
He cuts down super early in bowl turns/flat corners and leverages the insane torque and traction of a 450 while most guys go old school and try to maintain momentum by railing the corner. This would never fly in the 2T era.
This quick pivot technique also yields minimal benefit outdoors, which helps explain his results in 450 Nationals.
That said: kudos to Webb for figuring out how to take full advantage of a 450s unique low-speed attributes.
Same as Dunge, i would say Dunge looked even less interesting and didn't have "wow factor" and also lacked whoop speed
Don’t see that much since KTM moved to the new chassis. Definitely one of his strong points though!
But I compare him to Eli, Dunge, Villo, James, Chad, Ricky, McGrath, Stanton, Johnson, Wardy and Hannah. It’s not a shame to be the least impressive one on the list.
