Is Prado going to make it work ?

Has anyone that is based and trains in california won the 450 championship in the last 10 years ? is it possible even ? seems like you would be in a huge disadvantage against a compound with good tracks and no slow riders to dodge all day long. Seems like a odd move from his side but maby he needs to be there for the ease of testing with the team close by.

Just watch Jorge ride.  He's proven he's more than capable.  Supercross is a different thing, motocross, he'll shine.  Doesn't matter where he's training, natural skills and determination.  Me thinks he will be crowned champ in his first season.

He’s gonna do fine. I think he’s major contender will be Jett and in some other races Sexton and Tomac will be up there. Maybe Hunter. The others won’t bother him that much.

Possible, but unlikely. 2 big factors:

1. 1 day format. He has to learn the track very quickly and how it shapes up. Most racers have been racing it for years, this is a disadvantage.

2. Weather. If we get a hot summer, it's a quick turn around between Motos, euros are generally not used to that.

Those are 2 big disadvantages to start with, plus coming off an injury, and brand new bike for him. In a year or 2, he's probably in the discussion, but not this year. Moto wins, overalls? More likely

He’s raced and became a multi GP Champion racing in parking lots in some far away 3rd world country then on legendary tracks.

Pretty sure he can handle Cali. Smile

Sweet Jesus!!  Someone's never been to a GP.   I've been to the US many times, talk about smooth parking lots.  I still can't get over how smooth US tracks are by comparison.  Hardly motocross.

Define “make it work.”

For this season I think some podiums and maybe one win would be respectable. He’s on new tracks, on a new (and very different) bike, and coming off an injury. Next year he will still have to figure out SX and we’ll know whether he gels with the Kawi and can be up front outdoors.

He might win a race or two, but the championship will be a stretch. I anyone can do it, he can, but coming off injury, new bike, new tracks, different weather, the travel, the food, on and on. It will be different for him.

And the OP has a very real point; many racers are opting out of basing their operations in California. Too many distractions, shitty tracks, and lots of traffic/expenses.

"new tracks, different weather, the travel, the food..." Really?? It's like the gp's!

Now, the new bike and hot weather can be a problem.

So you don't think there any advantage to having raced the same tracks for multiple years?

If he is smart, he will head east after Hangtown. If Anderson is back racing by then and training at Club again, that would make a solid base for those two.

I remember an interview with Chad Reed saying after MXDN at Red Bud that there were lines and ruts where he had never seen them because because euros ride tracks completely differently. Possibly a reason we struggle at mxdn, I am super curious to see how that translates to prado the other way around, can he adapt to the way the lines and tracks develop being that it’s so different (if at all)

I'm interested in hearing DV's take on this. He seems to be pretty underwhelmed with Prado, as I am.

How he handles the heat is the biggest question mark I have. He's a 2x World Champion and the best starter in the world. My expectations are really high for him

DV's underwhelmed with 90% of things that exist.

He’ll be fine.

He’ll win at least one overall, likely more.

I’m curious to see how Prada folds into the mix. It’s hard for me to envision him coming in brand new to the series and being ahead of Jett or Eli, or Sexton on his day. 3-5 all year with some flashes? That sounds more likely to me. My hunch is this year he learns the series and the bike, stacking bricks for a title run in 2026.

I know it usually takes GP's guys time to adjust to the Nationals. Less time on the track with the one day schedule. But we're talking about the MXGP champ not an MX2 guy. Pala is gonna to have some interesting story lines. What's Davies going to look like in mx. How up to speed will Eli and Jett be. And how will Prado compare.

Jett went 1-1 on a bike he dis-liked last year, I presume he will go 1-1 again on a bike he now likes  on a track he has NEVER lost on.

Ferrandis won 2021 based out of California.

Eli is based out of Colorado & his tracks are not anything special.

Maybe he should hire some of you guys to advise him. I’m sure he needs to head east yesterday so he can ride a soft or sandy track for the first time in his career..
