Running a global event in a field in the UK in October was always going to be a risky one,
A lot of tracks closed this weekend in the UK due to the large amount of rain we've had in the UK this past week or so,
Weather is usually never greatly predicted on our weather apps over here and is often conflicting, Met Office is usually most accurate (first screenshot) but only shows 5 days ahead (til Friday at this point) other 2 are BBC and accuweather:
I'm optimistic and praying for a nice-ish weekend (we're staying in a tent)
At least all the forecasts agree that it's generally dry in the days leading up to the weekend, it's just a question of if & how much rain we get on Saturday & Sunday. I can't see it'll be as bad as 2017 though.
It’s been dry up here for a couple of weeks, but chilly though
In 2006 when i was there it rained on the nights and was sun on the days making the track perfect.
And we all remember it pissing down for three days in 2017. I have never been as sick as i was after sitting in the rain for two days there in the cold.
If the race are going to be held this late in the year it would be better in italy/france/spain in europe or at a sand track if it’s held in the UK/Holland or Belgium where the weather often change fast due to the sea.
But England in october is like asking for bad weather.
I’ll never understand the Centigrade. I’m a Fahrenheit boy, forever, dammit !
The Shop
I'm in the South West in Frome and has been propper sodden round here for weeks.
If it doesn't let up be hard to even drive into the field.
Do agree is playing with fire hosting in the UK in October, but praying we catch a break.
Of course Aarron Plessinger is doing his rain dance! 😀
0°C = Water is freezing
100°C = Water is boiling
Are you old btw? I'm Norwegian but I've never heard of Olaf Sveen until now 😂
Farenheit is a terrible system.
Fairly easy once you remember it, just remember "times 1.8 plus 32". Something like 40c is easy because 8 times 4 is 32, so it's 40 plus 32 plus 32.
Matterley will take a ton of rain, this week has been biblical, but as long as its decent next week, it will be fine.
0°C = Water is freezing
100°C = Water is boiling
That’s the clue.
“It’s 5 deg C”
About to freeze.
It’s 30 deg C
We are a third of the way to boiling - warm bath.
He has won alot of rain races has he? Which ones? Everyone says he is a mudder, I don't recall him kicking ass in a rain race. How do you think he would do in the rain versus Euros?
He did win a 250 sx mud race and then celebrated by dancing and jumping into a big mud puddle. It was a fun moment to watch, but some people act like he's a mud guru or something since then. 😂
Just double the Celsius temperature and then add roughly 30.
Then learn the metric system; It's much better than the imperial system of inches, feet, miles, etc.
As for me, if it's a mudder, bring it on! It mixes up results. Team USA did fine in 87 in the mud a d these younger generations need to learn to ride in all conditions to keep up with the Euros.
I watched him in Seattle in the 250s smoke everyone in the mud.
SX in the mud is a different animal to MX in the mud.
Strangely enough I feel like Tomac is our best mud rider (which is odd since he grew up riding in the high desert). AP is overrated in the mud IMO. I do think our best chance is on a dry track. I just think the Euros get so much more mud practice it would be tough to beat France or NLD in the slop
Aarron is a former GNCC and off road event Pro. So apparently he should win every mud race he enters.
Pit Row
Are you kidding!? O Sveen is the best mix of polka and bluegrass this side of the Rhine. They’re big in Japan
Can’t say I’ve seen any sort of stand out ride from him in mud
A few mentions of his 250 SX win, but there’s also his 450 SX win at San Diego this year. We sat just above what was considered the whoops section…. Guys were falling all over the place and paddling their way through the section…. AP was good, only Jett was really better.
But I do think Eli is our best in slippery conditions. And if it’s a shit fest, never count out the grit and shit track ability in Cooper Webb.
San Diego on the 450s in 2024 and Seattle sx in 2018 (both wins in mud). Had an awesome ride at Unadilla in 2018 going 2-2 against Ferrandis.
Aaron can ride mud.
Stand out rides? Or just he can ride mud?
Every time it rains they make it sound like Dumbledore of mud is about to come and school everyone and I’ve just not seen it
Winning two mud races isn't standout? What's he supposed to do, lap the field like RC did?
The important point here is that Aaron can ride in mud and ride it well. It may actually favor him and improve his results at this race. The real concern would be if AP had a history of bad rides in the mud.
By most predictions, it appears that some rain should be expected. Fortunately, it doesn’t look like a ton of rain…. Let’s hope it’s a good track for racing.
We don't need rain, I just want a clear day, or if it does rain, i hope it only sprinkles, I want to see battles in the most stacked class in a long time.
I don't live in UK myself but south east of France (actually the town where Dylan F. and Tom V. are coming from), and what's a pity is that not only the MXON is held in UK in October, but this year is very wet compare to what's usual. We've had 13 full moon in 2024, which has an effect on the humidity. In Provence for example, it rained half to two third of the month in May and we had 20°C while usually it is 5-6 days of rain maximum and almost 30°C (as a local tout guide myself, I usually explain to the people coming here expecting sun and really hot weather that this year is not really the case). My parents lives on the atlantic coast near Bretagne, and this year is rain, rain and rain. I can't imagine going to UK in October... Hopefully for the competition, the fans and the organisation I wish luck, but the idea is not really good...
No, I'm not. I guess I'm too young 🤷🏼♂️ Wasn't even born when he left Norway. Anyway, I learned something new today 🙂
It's Motocross.
It's Outdoors.
What is to come, is to come.
Any amount of whining and worrying, will not make a damned bit of difference.
It will be bloody awesome, no matter what.
