This is from Larry Morton's Facebook page. Larry was a MX trainer in the 00's and teens. Originally from Colorado and worked with Eli when he was a young amateur.

"So I spoke with John this morning because of all the smack talk and rumors about Eli. Turns out the shims in the rear shocks have been failing and by the end of the race his shock had failed. Says it happens on the sticker traction tracks and makes it handle poorly. That's why he was looking down at the bike. We know he's not done, we saw him last week win one, so I'm here to say once that is sorted out expect better results."

The rumors of my riders demise are greatly exaggerated!

Acting agent for Eli 🙂

One of three things happened to Eli.  He was injured, sick, or had bike problems.  I can't believe that's not obvious to people speculating he just "wasn't feeling it".  He was riding around letting people go by as if he was on a parade lap.  Something was clearly wrong.

Something was clearly wrong, but he still finished 10th.

Real respectful of Eli (if it truly was a bike issue) to let his fans know.

I wouldn't expect him to throw his crew under the bus. At most you'd get the "electrical problem" reply.

Until I see it from Star or Eli himself I don't buy it.

He might need to stop using 0.05mm thick shims.

Apparently they are still learning...

After seeing a real SX shock stack compared to a regular guy MX stack, I’m shocked more stuff doesn’t “fail”. Remember McElrath’s shock splitting wide open last year from the pressure created by that type of stack. Who knows what’s going on inside of Eli’s shock, but I’m shocked more don’t fail.

Sure hope that's what it was and not an Eli problem.

Why no official word on this?

So Star Yamaha will say nothing and just let everyone think Eli just rode like a 2nd tier guy? I don't think so. They need to speak up if it is a mechanical. Of course, Eli could end all the talk with a simple post on IG.

So today we learned the difference between failed and fell. And they told me this board was not educational 😋

Like to see them both side by side to see the difference internally

As frustrating as it is that Eli can’t seem to just come out and say, yeah my shock fell off, it’s never really been his m.o. to keep fans/journalists/vitards in the loop. He’s never done it his whole career so why expect it now

He has been pretty open about things since he went to Yamaha. He could just say there was a problem with the bike and leave it at that. He admitted he sucked at A1. The only thing these old-timers don't want to talk about is an injury right? But he didn't really look like he was hurt.
