I am for sure a dumb ass and read that to fast. And no reading is not my strong suit. 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ but on a serious note it would seem likely the other star bikes would be experiencing the same shim failure even if they run a different stack in Eli’s bike the shims are still KYB just like the other two start 450s. Does anyone know if the team uses the same suspension tech for all the 450 guys?
From the other Tomac post on another thread there was a comment about Tomac landing hard off a jump while chasing Sexton…..did this blow out his shock??? Makes sense to me now
Powerband posted a pic of a cone valve base valve set up for sx. It looked like 40-50 face shims.. I run 9 for mx and 11 is noticeably too stiff for me. Clamp shim does have a huge affect, it’s possible that sx stack had a smaller clamp than I run. The high speed stack also goes down in 1mm increments compared to 2mm on the other stack (what I also run)
How do you know the shims are KYB, Star may have had their own shims made.
The Shop
I believe tomac has his suspension guy from his geico Honda days
While the race was going on, I told my son there is something wrong with Eli's shock. Too soft and too quick. Watch the replay. Not an Eli nut hugger FYI.
Just so folks know what your talking about.
I've gotten in a habit of proof reading before sending
So “electrical issues” then 😂
Talking shims has found to be too technical. Let’s just say Tomac blew his rear shock, more than likely on the OJ.
I had seen this last night after the main
Now, if we could only teach the difference between "sale" and "sell" as well as "lose" and "loose".
Once we get that straightened out, we could teach the media that there is a suffix "-er" in the English language that means "more" of the word it is added to. Get so tired of hearing a bike is "more fast", "more tall" or more whatever (insert facepalm emoji here).
Sounds like a job for Falcon.
The lose vs loose has reached pandemic proportions 🙃
Good grief.
First a thread about RC sucking off Tomac and now ET3 blowing his shock.
Vital has become so base.
Lock up your women and children.
I'll lend you mine!
What if it was the rebound shims that failed?
I prefer, Vital has become baser!
😉
Boom!!!
Pit Row
The squeaky sound is the check valve in the shock...
How dare you come in here with facts. Don’t you know that without rampant speculation and rumor, Vital’s servers will crash?
I’ll go aks somebody, so I can get it acrossed right…
Awesome job on the pr department lmao
Is dat somebody down da skreet from you?
Aaaah, so that's it - the seat was uncomfortable.
Good call. Wouldn't want to end up with a "McAdoo", you know?
I'll say it once more, you're not a fan. Every Saturday in the race thread all you do is trash him.
Time for Star to buy a trophy truck shock Dyno.
That noise is from a check valve in the shock
I thought it was from Will Christien
I don't think I've ever seen a tour of Star's suspension department- but I would absolutely bet they've got a Penske suspension dyno.
Back when Cliff White was still at HRC, he put a shock on their new their dyno but didn't adjust for the top out spring. Pretty interesting to watch a dyno pull a shock apart at 200m/s.
Ok I don’t get this. How does this happen? Setup was great last year, the bike is the same, endless laps at the test track, and now there’s a problem? I understand these guys always tweaking things and looking for more at that level but damn, if it’s not broke make sure you break it?
