It's crazy, Matt always seems to be in position filming. He catches everything
I didn't read the thread, but I was sitting at the tabletop and watched the whole thing go down. Lapper went over the bars (seen on the showing of the race). The flagger was asleep on the job and had his flag rolled up like a total rookie. That is my biggest pet peeve with flaggers, especially flaggers with an official AMA shirt. If your supposed to be a professional at your drop, and dress the part, you better be able to play the part when its your time. Rant over on the flagger. When Deegan landed on his bike it was insane that only Deegan landed on it, there were guys landing all around the bike. The remarkable part is how quickly Deegan got back to his feet, picked up the bike, and took off. He's an incredible athlete and wants it. I'm not a fan boy but you can't deny the grit in him, money doesn't buy that, you're born with it.
Kudo's to Mattty 2 Stroke. He always seems to be in a spot to catch something nobody else can. As impressive is his riding, his camera work may be ever better.
Problem is it was an AMA official and he had the blue flag out. Why it took him so long to get the yellow only he and the guy on the Honda knows. Not saying it could have been prevented unless the guy had cat like reflexes and that is a hard NO.

The flagger standing past the incident is technically responsible for the next section and the flaggers are told not to leave their positions. I was more concerned he wasn’t watching his section and staring back at Deegan lying on the ground but I’d imagine that crash was hard to take your eyes off of. That AMA official looked pissed grabbing the yellow flag out of that sleepy flaggers hand.
It almost seemed like he looked around and couldn’t find the yellow flag. He was looking down at the ground frantically, looks up briefly and the sleepy yellow flagger meanders his way towards the AMA official almost at exactly the same time as that second official roles up on the bike. What a mess.

Sorry brother...I wasn't singling anyone out. The race day vibe seems to be a bitchfest sometimes. To be honest...the constant complaints are just as aggravating as the stuff being complained about...and there's plenty that could be better. Really no excuse for not knowing/telling us about every move Deegs makes. There's always someone going down but it's different if they're points leader.
Flagging definitely needs attention. DC needs to give this some immediate action before it bites him bad. (I'm a DC fan but I'm not blind).
We're cool...right?
Yes, and I very much agree with everything you said. I don't partake in all the commentator bashing as I think they all do a good job for the most part. However, I do think the broadcast team should try to be consistent and have a spotter on the points leader. They did it in Supercross, and they would always provide an update on Jett if he had a bad race and was not on the podium.
For Supercross, I still think the broadcast team needs to place a wide angle camera up high and record the whole race so if they don't capture a crash on the main cameras we can always scroll through and see what happened to the rider. There's just too many riders that crash and we have no idea what happened until a fan in the stands posts a video from their phone. We've seen this happen to top riders like Tomac in Supercross where the broadcast team missed the crash.
As for Outdoors I think they are doing a good job but we need to keep a spotter on the points leader and the flaggers definitely need some schooling.
Thanks for the update. Hate to say it but the KTM false neutral strikes again. Hope Kroone can heal up quickly
Good to hear that Deegan is ok! But Damn that could have been so much uglier for him and the other dude (Bailey kroone) as I just read.
In my little motocross world where I have organized races, we do what I hear they do in the AMA races which is surprising to me.
Flaggers are volunteers and we give them a shirt and lunch for the day but we do make a meeting where we explain to them what they have to do and the must things to do and not do ( don´t move of your position, always have the yellow flag with you, don´t run to help the down rider, most of the times is more important to flag the zone to avoid more crashes and stuff like that) it´s pretty simple really and I don´t remember having problems with them.
So for me to watch that dude not having the yellow flag ready and his so freaking slow reaction pisses me off! Is not that hard and is not the first time happening, how many times even the riders go and flag after seeing the flagger so clueless.
I have worked for the WRC and rallies here in Mexico, we are volunteers but we do receive training and in order to work in those events you need credentials issued by the FIA. They should do something like that ASAP.
Now that we've seen the video of Deegan's crash all over social media, do you think the broadcast team will cover it this Saturday and replay it at precisely the wrong time during the race?? LOL. Can't wait to see how they do this week.
