I'm hearing they're a possibility for next season.

I'll give that a thumbs up.

Let's hope that they are at least 20 minutes.

Posted to Racer X Twitter account over the weekend. I hope they lengthen the Heat races to 8 laps as well.

Great... Now the top 3 will lap into the the top 10 weekly. I'd rather see longer laps by adding more dirt, more challenging obstacles, 2 10 lap races, reverse starting order, something...

I am sure it has happened but I honestly can't recall more than one or two races a season coming down to the last lap. Actually, by lap 12 or so not much really happens for the most part. I usually FF the race at that point and just watch the leader board to see if any positions change in the top 5 and usually they don't.

If you add more dirt and longer lap times it starts to be more like real racing because it cuts down air time. Then it replaces MX. Lol

Timed main is exactly what this sport needs! Actually one of a few , but yes , timed mains will be a good thing. Most mains don't last any longer than 13 - 16 minutes. ( Except Daytona )....so let's hope for something like 18 - 20min mains for the 450's and maybe 15+min mains for the 250's.

To add here....we need a 125 support class. Run some in SX and some in the outdoors. The GP scene has figured out just how important that series is. We need to get on the ball here in the states.

Whether it's time or dirt you end up with the same result; longer races. From a business standpoint adding time is free. Dirt? Not so much.

No kidding... I hadn't heard. Whistling

So far this thread is good with it. Everyone seems to have different opinions on the one (go figure.... Lol)

Something to consider- (copy and pasted from a different post I made)

I doubt the tracks will get more technical, but the "timed" racing should change things up a bit. If the 20 minute, plus 2 lap 450 main rumors are true, we will all benefit from additional track time.
The race only lasted for 14:38 minutes @ Santa Clara SX last year. (44.1 second lap times) It would extend that race as much as 7 minutes with a 20 minute, +2 lap race schedule.

These races would also see races into the 25+ laps

Indy- 15:43
SD 1- 16:34
Atlanta- 15:26
Detroit 15:53
East Rutherford- 15:13

Should work with TV very well. Unless there's restarts. But I like the idea to try something new.

Sounds good, some of the regional 250 mains are extremely short:

Atlanta - 12:03
Indianapolis - 12:32
Arlington - 13:07

Doesn't make much sense when my weekend warrior low level local B motos are longer than professional supercross main events.

People have probably missed entire 250 mains standing in the piss queues at the stadium washrooms.

Sounds like they'll be 15 +2.

I guess that is a possibility. It's also a possibility that longer mains will allow the slow starters more time to come back through the pack and challenge for a podium or the lead.

Would be a great idea and if they would change the tracks up a bit more to not be as fast then we are really heading in the right direction.

I would imagine that TV would be for it as well. A little but longer that is planned for, would still be more efficient than the current version with more variables in play. In other words, should help with commercial breaks and their timing, which in turn, could provide market saturation numbers to maximize air time dollars. Also, as much as we hate the breaks, they could possibly get more air time paid for.

Edit: Crap. Supercross=1, outdoors=0.

Timed could be good or bad, but it seems like too little of a move. Shorter or Longer is more the question. We all want more for our entertainment dollar by seeing the top guys on the track.

Do we want longer if the races aren't close? That's just more time to head out early to beat the other guy's out of the parking lot.

I'm all for it. I've suggested it a time or 2.

If this happens I could see a poor start like Tomac having a much better supercross season!! I like!

Hmmm makes me wonder? This new rule was put in place just for him.

No amount of added time will help him if he's 10 seconds off the leader on lap 3 from a bad start.
