Considering he has been right on pace with all the top 450 guys from the moment he first rode a 450, I would say there's no hype. He's here to stay. On top of that, he's much better at SX, and in his one 450 SX race so far, he walked away with $100,000.

I guess I worded it a bit wrong. I meant the hype he gets on Vital. In ALL the threads on 2013 SX, he is mentioned as one of the "5" and hailed a title threat.

I'm not discrediting him, he did win at the MEC. Just saying, 450 SX series is twice as long and the motos are 5 laps longer. Thats a lot. I guess we'll see after 17 rounds.

People already have him winning, right from the start. Personally, I will be surprised if A: he is consistant all the way through, and B: he keeps his little temper and ego in check, or else I bet he will get his share of "welcome to the big league" love taps.........

Hype shmype the kid will be a player....I think this race was just before he built his own track and hired stanton to crack a whip at him....only weekness I can see here is 450 seat time and fitness....doubters don't kid yourself-

So the comparison is a one off race with a bunch of guys he hasn't necessarily raced consistently with? I'll still contend that if his aggressiveness doesn't change, he has about 0% chance of winning the championship. It's a talented field to have more than one maybe two rivals on the line. . .

Barcia will be in the mix straight away.

It amazes me that people continue to question the potential of top-tier 250 riders stepping up, especially those with stellar 450 results already! Its been proven time and time again that the switch between classes isn't anywhere near as difficult as people like to think it is.

Im not suggesting Barcia will start winning 450 titles straight away, but the only thing that stands between him and race podiums is his focus, and thats already started to improve.

I keep reading everyone saying, wait until he gets into the 450 class, they will show him. It works both ways though, which one of the contenders is going to risk to try to mess with this kid? I dont think it would be a very smart move, and lets not forget, he showed a lot of restraint this last outdoor season, could have put Bagget down a couple times, but didnt.




Oh, and also, I think he is going to get into Dungeys head by week 4, cant wait.Woohoo

Given his performances on the 450's its easy to assume he could be better on them than he was on 250's. There is hype and there are expectations based on results. I have no doubt he is going to run up front and be a factor in the championship.

I really have'nt seen any hype at all reguarding him moving up. What I have seen tho, was him winning the last supercross race.

I don't think anyone is going to go out and try to punt with him before he provokes it. And I agree that he showed some restraing outdoors but I also think some of the restraing might have been more situational than his choice to back down. The pass KRoc put on him and some of the passes Baggett put on him, didn't leave much room for Barcia to attack. And I noticed that he was trying to run them wide a few times but they were able to pull ahead before the wide bike trick was able to work.

I'll give him credit for smartening up and learning that aggressive isn't ALWAYS the best decision until he proves me differently. But my comment was just made to say that if he doesn't change, he will have a big target on his back for a lot of riders.

And I hate that you think he'll get in Dungey's head. I'd like to say you're wrong but it's not an easy argument to make.

I don't consider it hype if there are facts to back up riding well (like winning MEC). There is no reason he won't be up near/at the front from what I see.

Barcia =Big time player....weather you like him or not.

He's already proven that he has the speed....and now with a little more experience on the big bikes.....why would anyone think he wouldn't be a threat? I see Barcia being top 3 in points by the end of the SX season. I see tons of top 5's and podiums with a couple wins thrown in. His consistency will be a huge factor in this. I would NOT count him out as one of the favorites for the title.

His confidence is a lot like Rick Johnson's in 1985. He also has charisma on and off the bike like RJ. Barcia is the next Rick Johnson (and we haven't had one since then).

He's going to win straight away. Believe it.

For those of you saying he's too aggressive, go look at some of Carmichael's races. Really until his semi retired year, he was every bit as aggressive as Barcia. Especially to Reed and Windham.

Barcia will not be in the top 5 at seasons end, he is with the big boys now. He may crack the top 5 in years to come though.

but Villo will be damned tough to beat. 3 in a row would be amazing.

I think he'll be a threat for wins right away and possibly also a title contender. I wouldn't bet him ahead of CR, RV or RD (James is an unknown imo) long term points wise or come Las Vegas, as the odd disaster seems likely - though with that said even the big name 450 riders aren't immune to a couple of duff results each year..... But he'll definitely be a factor throughout the season and no doubt a huge source of drama and excitement (and resulting 10 page threads). He has the speed and at this point in his career that's all that matters. No one's really expecting him to win it, all he has to do this year is go out and establish himself as a contender.
