Looking to get some input on which fuel would be ideal for my yz250. Not looking to run pump gas in it. Looking into either T2 or C12 + premix. Let me know your thoughts.

I've been running c12, but it's getting harder for me to justify the 90 bucks for the c12 and then spend another 15 in two stroke oil. The T2 is 90 ready to dump in your bike. That's the only input I have😂

If you aren't bumping up your compression, straight race fuel makes less power....Unless you are going the oxygenated route.

If you are running a stock engine, C12 is overkill. T2, if I’m not mistaken, is designed for stock or mildly modified bikes.

I’m a big fan of race gas for a number of reasons, but with a stock engine, using some of the blends can actually make the bike run worse and/or make less power.

All that said, I know recent YZ250’s are on the edge stock with regard to pinging, so maybe it’s less of an issue to run something like C12.

I have always run C12 mixed 50/50 with unleaded pump gs in my yz's and have had great luck. It also helps the wallet from spending 75 every two weeks.

In my stock bike I run 3 gallons of 90 rec fuel mixed with 2 gallons of VP-110. Cost effective, leaded, little to no jetting changes, and not wasting money on something like C12 where your engine can't utilize it. It comes around to around 96-97 octane which is slightly above what your manual will recommend.

We have run both in our two strokes. Straight C12 is over kill and has a much higher octane rating than you need. In fact the bike will actually have a little less power than pump gas. If you go that route 50/50 with pump gas would be more the way to go.

T2 is less octane than C12, but the main thing is it’s oxygenated which will boost power a noticeable amount. Mixed at 40:1 it’s good to go right out of the can. If your not on a tight budget this is the go to gas for two strokes.

VP 110 or T2 for s stock motor. Or VPR, which is the base of the T2, but without the oil mixed in.

This.

Last time I used T2, it was 40:1 and I mixed it to 50:1 with VPR.

Another point: keep your fuel in the VP steel can with the lid on poroperly and store in a cool/dry loctaion.

Psssssst...VP sells a nozzle for the steel can.

I have a TMR built yz250 that’s spec’d for C12. Was paying 10.25/gal for c12. Ended up buying a drum of T2 for 600, comes out to 11.x/gal, and I don’t have to mix oil in.

It’s oxygenated so a little more power for my Vet self that probably doesn’t need it. Tom said no problem to go T2 from C12.

I keep the T2 drum sealed with an N2 head on it and have a ball valve setup to dispense. Never exposed to ambient air so it remains fresh. It’s a spare / project / build bike so it doesn’t get ridden much. Whatever fuel I don’t burn from the drum of dispersed goes back into a 5 gal VP pale. I’m +2 main sizes compared to C12.

And keep that can off of concrete. Put it on a pallet.

T2 is great fuel and oxygenated. I have 2 bikes I'm running it in. One is lightly modified, stock engine with a high compression head. The other bike is a full factory built 125 that finished on the podium at Loretta's this year. It was built for MRX02, but the engine builder told me T2 is perfectly fine in it as well. I asked him about C12 and was told T2 is better.

that’s interesting, my 06 KX 250 was built by TMR and he also recommended C12 or vp110... been wondering if the T2 would work so might have to give him a call to make sure!

How do like your TMR yz250?

I have a 01 RM 125 that I re did as a project bike. I've been riding and racing since 1994. This is the first year that I've ever bought VP and never stopped at our local kwik trip for 93 octane pump gas. I've poured alot of money overall into this bike having the motor completely rebuilt. So I figured I'd feed it some great gas and stay away from the pumps. My local shop rebuilt this engine in and out top and bottom you name it. He's also a VP dealer. This motor is bone stock other than a few bolt ons. Pipe, silencer, reeds etc. He's been selling me C12 all year. After what I've read and looked into sounds like this is complete over kill for this machine, should it drink T2 or VPR? I've been using castor 927

C12 would work best if you’ve got the head cut for the correct squish band clearance. Running C12 in a stockish motor like that is just going to smell good. T2 is the 40:1 premixed version of VPR. Both fuels are 105 octane with if I remember correctly 5% oxygen. I run a 50/50 mix of C12 & Pump 93 in my YZ250 with the head mod. I’ve ran the VPR as well with Klotz @ 32:1. No complaints from either fuel

I do the exact same thing with the 110 Sunoco purple we have at the pumps here in Michigan. The 150 screams on it bone stock.

I've ran Straoght AV in all my 2 strokes and never had a single issue.

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t c12 non oxygenated?

Correct. Zero oxygen. 113 octane leaded fuel

Got ya, thanks.
A lot of these smokers would make more power with T2, u4.4 or MRXo2 (for the deep pocket guys 😎) over c12...

And if someone is looking for more power but their motor has been set up for C12, VP 113 is another option. It’s also an option for cutting with pump gas for stock ish motors.

But to the OP can’t go wrong with T2

That is good one too FahQ. I always forget about that one (& VPR for that matter) just make sure you get the REG version. BC that one is almost 5% oxy it will make a little more power than the c12 for the same price.
However as a lot have already mentioned I don’t think our engines really need all that much octane. T2 is like 105 which should be plenty even for most modified 2 strokes (like .038”-.048” squish & 20-21cc dome volume).
I’ve also done the pump gas / 110 race gas - 50/50 mix & had no problems with that option either.
Personally I think the take away is as long as you are increasing the octane levels above pump gas & using a quality oil mixed at Appropriate Levels you will be fine 😎

Side note (& I can move it to another thread if need be) but how are you guys setting up your smokers where it must have 112 octane levels to run vs something like 105?

Same here. I've ran 100LL with BelRay 2 stroke oil and the bike loves it and everyone behind me loves the smell so it gives them an incentive to stay behind me. Lord knows I'm not fast enough to keep them there with speed.

I also would like to know what really makes the difference as i run what would be the equivalent to 93 in my modded yz125.

When my friend was on 125s they ran MRX02 in his Husky with a full EBR motor. The throttle response in it was awesome and the internals of the engine were very clean every time the bike was cracked open.
