I'll be surprised if he can race next weekend. Seems pretty painful
The Shop
Honestly, I don’t even know what happened. Everything was good, and then wham, I was on the ground. I went to the medical center and for an X-ray but they couldn’t tell me if I broke anything or not. So we packed up headed to Milan and flew back to Belgium Monday afternoon.
On Tuesday, I saw a doctor who confirmed what I didn’t want to hear: I broke my tailbone in four spots. Unfortunately, there’s nothing they can do for it, so basically, we just have to wait and let it heal. I want to race and plan on riding on Friday. After that we can make the call if we’re going to line up at Valkenswaard. Hopefully I’ll have better news here shortly… – RV
Pit Row
I think it will be a similar thing with RV. Especially if he can get a shot of a local anesthetic. He may be howling at the moon later though.
I hope he's able to race. If he does, he's a damn sight tougher than I ever was.
right when he did it i knew what had happened just by his reaction. both times i broke mine it knocked the wind out of me and was so painful i couldn't move for the first minute or so.
that thing is VERY VERY painful for a VERY VERY long time. the first 10 days is absolute misery. the first month is brutal and things still hurt months after. if he can race, my guess is he won't be very fast.... the amount of pain is so bad for the first 10 or so days it is debilitating.
if he races and places in the top ten...... he is the baddest dude to ever throw a leg over a bike period.
