Just watch his podium speech when he won the supercross title. He was clearly over it.

This move if it comes off will be refreshing for him..

Me neither, but I bet the teams and sponsors here would. so maybe the GP's is the way to go, carry out his last year on his contract and skip supercross.

Would you rather be the man in your regional series for a fifth time, or take on "The World" in an unprecedented fashion?'

Are we really asking this question?

not money.

i honestly THINK he is just over it here and could use a change of pace, scenery, motivations, etc.

he's won all there is to win here. might as well challenge himself by going to race the MXGP imo

RV is not motivated by his legacy, he doesnt even keep up with that stuff. He has all the money he needs. He had nothing more to prove in the US and from what I can tell, he had more and more difficulty finding a good reason to race here, getting another championship just to say you had 5 in a row was not doing it. What he needed was a new challenge, a reason to train and keep racing, and the only place left was GPs. I also suspect he wants to go over there and prove he is the best, to make it completely clear that he is the best rider in the world (excluding Herlings unfortunately).

Think about it this way. A very obviously bored and lacking motivation RV still won the SX championship pretty easily. Now imagine a motivated, maybe with a chip on his shoulder wanting to prove he is the best outdoor rider, RV going to the GPs.

Even if he loses its going to be EPIC.
I believe I read somewhere that rumor has it, that it's a 2 year deal. So he would get to race Herlings next year.

1 year only.
And (although highly probable) not 100% signed and delivered either, as far as I know.

Read that one on Vital? I’m thinking that as soon as there is a deal signed around there will be a press release. It’s not some top secret conspiracy baloney, IMO, it’s more about having details addressed to insure everyone is on the same page before you announce.

here is something interesting to consider:if the Villopoto to Europe deal happens, Supercross and the Nationals and the GPS will all be better to watch. if the deal does not happen, and he retires, Supercross and the AMA Nationals will be awesome to watch, but the GPS will be an absolute snoozefest again.

What are the advantages of him doing GPs over trying to be the first to do 5 straight SX titles? Is he that bored of it and just wants a change of scenery? Maybe something he's always wanted to do? I know this has been talked about for awhile, I just don't see why it's such a big secret.
RV will go to Europe and clean up on the Europeans!

It's a longer more spread out season. A lot more rest and rehab time on the schedule.
http://www.motocrossmx1.com/calendar.aspx?year=2014
If he wins a World Title, will he be the new GOAT? That will be something that has not done in moto.
I think he could win but it won't be a cake walk. RV has years of experience on US National tracks but obviously none in Europe. I think that would be his only disadvantage.
I'd like to see him go.

One thing AC hasn't had since Tyla or CP is a guy who can be on the box every week or win. Not knocking AC but thats what he does too when he doesn't win. Look at the last 3-4 seasons, Desalle misses races, Paulin misses races, any top guy can never put in 2 solid motos week in week out. Tony can and so can RV, I think it will be a great series either way.

Remember though that Roczen's speed was there. Track familiarity wasn't a problem. It was the heat that got him that season. With Villopoto going to a much cooler region of the world, and with him getting tons of track time before the actual motos, I think we will see the same Villopoto over there as we do here.

If the RV of 2013 MX shows up, he will do well. If the RV of 2011 or any other year for that matter shows up, not so well. You guys realize RV has only completed 2 out of 6 450 MX series and 2013 was the only year he was the dominate rider and still lost some straight up battles. He'll also be coming off almost a year with no racing, but if anyone can do it, RV can, I just think it's not going to be a cakewalk.

Winning in the GPs isn't going to be as easy as he thinks. He will have some trials. Even though he's won everything here, I'm guessing it'll take a full season to get accustomed to the whole scene, and the speed of some of those guys over there.

Guess no one remembers Danny Laporte, Trampas Parker and Donny Schmitt. IF things work out to be true and RV goes to the MXGP's, I think he is quite capable of winning his first time out (and defending) and would leave Europe on top. Not a fanboy of RV1, just stating a fact.

There are 7 new tracks next year. He has a good change of beating AC his first year.

I think it will be great. Not to mention the money that Youth Stream should pay him. I think it's a way to go out he will never catch mcgrath or RC in titles but to be the modern guy to win a GP title. Alot of people said it would never be done. I for one will be watching. However, you can bet your butt that the 222 will be on it. Battle Royal

I don't remember for sure, but Has Cairoli EVER beaten RV when they met at the MXDN? It seems like I remember Villopoto crushing everybody he lines up against at those races. Maybe I have rose-colored rearview mirrors or something...

There was that recent 1-on-1 KTM thing that Dungey won over Cairoli and Herlings, and it seems like RV has Dungey covered most of the time. Just extrapolating here, but wouldn't that put RV out front as the favorite?

cairoli caught passed and pulled away from RV at matterly basin in 06 in one of the motos (the one where everts destroyed stewart) - rv beat him in the other moto

theyve not raced together many times though - rv has been injured or decided not to race the nations alot of years

I would never say that about any 250 class rider that's never raced a series with 7+ time champions (in fact, the last few years he hasn't been racing prior champions), but to each their own, I guess Wink
