he moved there (for parts of the year), so that he could improve in the sand.... he saw his weakness and turned it into a positive. So no, he doesn't have an enormous advantage because every other rider has the opportunity to ride it just as much as he does. It's not his fault other people aren't as good as him
Ha. So if MXdN were to take place in Milville then you wouldn't think that Dungey and Martin (especially) would have an advantage there over everyone else? Please... Look at what happened at Glen Helen w/ Josh Grant. He didn't show that kind of speed for the rest of the year. But at his hometown track he was a different rider.

if herlings moves up next year then everyone else is racing for 2nd place..

I would never say that about any 250 class rider that's never raced a series with 7+ time champions (in fact, the last few years he hasn't been racing prior champions), but to each their own, I guess Wink

herlings already has the experience on the open class bikes though- not only does he train on the 350, he also races the dutch and belgian championships on the open class bikes- against top 5 mx1 gp standard riders (strijbos, de dyker, nagl, bobbryshev, van hoerbeek etc) - and beats them convincingly almost every time.

Some riders make the transition to mx1 better than others- some riders always go better on the smaller capacity bikes. Look at ken roczen for example- wins the 450 class championship at his first attempt. After his podium at the teuschental gp as a wildcard in mx1 (whilst he was a full time 250 rider) it was obvious kenny would be a contender right away on the 450. Jeffrey will be the same

im still not convinced rv is even coming to gps! i will be really happy to see him come over, as will every other gp fan! but until i see the official press release im trying not to get my hopes up
Riders like Strijbos, De dyker, Nagl, Bobbryshev, and Van hoerbeek are not multi-time champions. I would expect Herlings to be beating those guys (which is no insult to them, they haul serious ass on a motorcycle); I just don't think that his 250 class experience and his limited 450 class experience to be enough of an indication that he can beat AC (or RV) in a series. I think that's downplaying how freaking good AC and RV are, and overestimating what Herling's abilities are at the moment a bit. Stewart on his trusty 125 had the same "Jesus on motorcycle" effect from his fanbase that Herlings does (I think it's a phenomena that happens any time a really, really fast rider is in the small bore class for a while), and I remember his transition to the big class being a little rough trying to chase RC outdoors. I always shy away from predicting overwhelming success for a transitioning rider, but maybe that's just me.

If it were a sand series, RV and AC would certainly be racing for second place to Herlings Wink

I haven't been keeping up with any GP stuff for about a month; is Jeffrey going to try to tough it out in Mexico?

You seem to think that Antonio Cairoli is the only rider to live near Lommel? The fact you're using Jeremy Martin as an example just shows how little you know about Lommel and the surrounding area, and how things are done in the World Championships

It's like living in Temecula, EVERY rider lives there, or stays there or practices there... but whatever, keep discrediting Cairoli (who apparently now is Belgian) for this apparent home field advantage.

Go check out his Instagram feed and let me know how many times you see practising in Lommel pop up, and how many times you see other tracks pop up - http://instagram.com/antoniocairoli

AC lived close by and practiced there quite often. From the man himself:

For Cairoli it is a return home, as he lives just around the corner from the facility and looks at Lommel as one of his home tracks.

“I like Lommel a lot,” Cairoli said recently. “It gets really rough and that makes a big difference for the riders. I enjoy the difficult side of riding, when the circuit gets really tough and you have to pick your lines and think a little more than you might have to on a hard-pack track.”

Of course for most riders this is a home Grand Prix as a large section of the MXGP and MX2 riders live close to the Belgian facility and use Lommel as their regular practice track.

Or was mxgp.com wrong about that?

the point is...... it's a practice track that ANYONE can ride on. ANYONE could be as good as Cairoli if they wanted to be, they just aren't.

It's just another way people use to discredit him, "he's only good because he lives there".... no he's good there, because he's a damn good rider and puts in the effort in on the sand, as could any rider (including Americans) if they chose to

And of course Steed, that's all it was ever going to be for a lot of fans who don't actually bother to watch the GP's but gather their information second-hand.... but I'm pumped to be able to go to these races and watch it unfold and hope we get to see the best of both riders. However, with that being said, whoever wins, it will be equally unbearable.

Frankly anyone who can live in the dump that is Lommel for more than a couple of months, deserves a lot of credit. Place is unbelievably dull.
So you suppose that during the year, the US based riders could just go over there and practice? That's not plausible given their schedule where it is plausible for Caroli. Pilotdude's point was that Cairoli had a distinct advantage on that track since it was essentially his practice track.

90% of you on here are wankers that don't know shit about the other series your talking about. Who gives a rats ass about how they did at the MXdN 7 years ago or two years ago. FYI it doesn't mean shit about future races.

Sure it does. Past races are often good indicators of who is fast and who isn't.

Like some of you have said, we all want to see this happen and surely most of us Merican's want to see RV win and vice versa but the majority of us can deal with our guy losing. But, there is always those few loud mouth's that will be on here making it hard for everyone. It's like this in most all sporting events I guess. I just hope he does it and we get a hell of a series and some good racing.

If he goes you can bet I will attend at least one race somewhere and I'm sure I'll buy the viewing package that the YS guy is selling. Let's just hope the stars are about to align for us moto loving freaks.

At least if he goes win or lose he was man enough to try it which is more than we can say for most.

As an American and an RV fan I want him to win obviously but I do like cairolli and herlings as well. And part of me thinks herlings is the bigger threat. But like we've seen with Tomac it doesn't always immediately transfer over to the 450. Hell how many riders besides dungey and roczen had success their rookie 450 year?

The story behind this is that Kawi wants a Premier class GP title BAD. There is a LOT more behind this than RV simply wanting to try the GPs...or secure any sort of legacy. RV could care less about that. RVs decision not to race the nationals was likely impacted by Kawi wanting to keep the GP option open. If RV had run the nationals...he would not be ready for the GPs due to the need for surgery. Every move seen so far is indicative of a well thought effort by Kawi to win this title.....

Dungey being 'stuck for 24 hours' was lame... if he'd have tweeted that he needed a lift , loads of folks could have picked him up.

Its a 5 hour drive, 6 at best , on some of the fastest roads in the world , just showed that his head wasnt in it right from the start.

Why would I make that up?

From Transworld December 2013 issue: "Dungey was never a factor at the front of the field throughout the weekend and looked uncomfortable on the track. He cited a number of reasons for his difficulties, including food poisoning and the 24 hours spent in an Amsterdam airport waiting for a delayed flight..."

awww... bless him . maybe he should have taken his mum...

Rent a car with satnav .. put in address... drive, how hard can it be, he doesnt even have to learn to drive on the wring side of the road FFS,

Id say probably 20 minutes of that journey isnt main road or motorway, anyone in team KTM could have told him that.

Excuses? I can see you're a man of irony. Here are a list of your "excuses":

After that, AC had "Decoster at Carlsbad" runs of disasters at the MXDN, with 2007 having a destroyed front wheel in one moto, a locked front brake in the next.

- the second moto, both AC and CR had both their bikes totalled

Colorado - there was the Italian Federation playing with Jerseys, so AC was not selected, so he went into "celebration / party mode" for nearly a month

Saint Jean DeAngely in '11, with his Mother passing away in the previous week,

A sideshow, that AC would have had in his Red Bull contract, that he probably had fun doing, but didn't give a flying f*ck about

That's excuse after excuse after excuse. And if and when RV races Cairoli, he will beat him and then you'll be out of excuses.

"Owned", No. I'd say just another 'merican, full of himself, and the 'importance' of your regional racing.. And, I daresay, like so many 'mericans, probably one that threw Dungey "under the bus:, despite him being your best performer in the last 2 MXDNs.

I know you don't have any good points because now you've turned to insults calling me an idiot and using derogatory terms like 'mericans.

You talk a lot about how others are ignorant and then you go on to say about me that I'm, "probably one that threw Dungey "under the bus:, despite him being your best performer in the last 2 MXDNs" which is quite laughable since Dungey is my favorite rider. I'm a fan of his whether he wins or loses.

The point I was making was that you came up with a bevy of excuses for Cairoli, refused to call them excuses, called them "infornation provided" sic instead, and yet when I mentioned that Dungey was held up in an airport for 24 hrs and had food poisoning you called those excuses. Take your blinders off because it's apparent that they are on.

No "blinders" here.

I'm a full supporter of RV going to Europe. I hope it comes to pass.

I think he has the potential to win - and, the potential to lose. There are no certainties in MX.

I for one, have expected Cairoli to be beaten to the World Title for the last few years. But, his talent, And, a whole slew of injuries for other major title contenders, has kept him on top. That's how racing goes.

That so many 'mericans - hey, come on, quite a few of you 'mericans here use that term, proudly, it seems - show how little they know of the sport of Motocross, other than your local racing? Well, it's a seeming constant.

Though, I'm pleasantly surprised with some US posters here, after the reputation that others tag onto 'Vitards' - there are some very informed / open blokes.

Calling names - now there's a hurt childs line. You write like an idiot, I'll take you as an idiot. The points I put up, were not excuses, they were, as I said, information for those that did not know. And, few US fans, would know of those points.

Good to hear of your fondness for Dungey.. He just got beaten on the day(s).And I don't think he'll need them at Keggums, but, I'm sure people will come up with them, if he doesn't do well. Dungey is one of my favourite US riders, and, I've been disgusted by the attacks on him after the last 2 years MXDN - by, most often, his own US compatriots,

bit off subject….

That photo is badass,

How villopoto rides on his toes, amazes me.

Ive tried a couple of times to ride with my feet in the same position, You grip the bike better with your knees, but i Just can't adjust my feet for the rear brake or shifting gears.

I honestly think you can't be taught to ride that.

I just want to see villopoto ride, I don't care where. I think we take villopoto for granted, He is truly amazing to watch on a dirt bike.

It's at Washougal. I think it's a Hannah trick, as it helps to pin it wfo and just barely get your feet back on the pegs, if at all... hehe

It is at the base of the uphill though, so who needs brakes?

The one thing I remember about that Budds Creek race was words of AC saying he was coming here to beat RC and I was actually worried it might happen. Never in my mind did I think RV would crush everyone including RC.
i had the biggest man-crush boner standing in the crowd that day watching that little red-headed freak completely kick everyone's ass. you could literally hear him around the entire track no matter where you were standing, that's how fucking HARD he was twisting the throttle.

just remembering it makes the hair on my arms stand up

I honestly think you can't be taught to ride that.

I just want to see villopoto ride, I don't care where. I think we take villopoto for granted, He is truly amazing to watch on a dirt bike.
you and me both, broseph. i think our problem is we have no clue how to ride with no fucks to give like RV does.
