So, I'm going to pick up this little beauty tomorrow all going well. The seller says it has loads of pro-circuit bits and bobs some are visible some not so such as engine internals.
The forks and shock he says are also procircuit? The forks don't look standard I know that, I'm presuming they're of a kxf250?

Anyway unless someone here unearths something really bad that I have missed I will have it in my garage tomorrow afternoon beggining a full strip down.

Anyone got anything I should keep an eye out for with these bikes?

Well pictures make bikes look better than they really are. You better inspect that thing and don't over pay for what could be a polished turd......

Anybody can say internal parts are all pro circuit, especially if that's what the last guy said and the bikes never been taken apart!!

Yea I've heard it all before, it's just had an engine rebuild too!
It's a fair price even without the claimed bits n bobs and I will be stripping it right down, the engine too, before it even turns a lap.

I can see the pro circuit sticker on the cylinder

My buddy BigdaddyG just picked up that exact bike 2 days ago!! Maybe he'll chime in here.

And there goes Jeffro. One of God's own prototypes. A super high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

I had an 05 kx 250. The powervalve actuation arm spring breaks regularlly , upper and lower shock bearings wear out fast. That's about it. Very reliabe bike if you maintain it. Mine never gave me one bit of trouble in 5 yrs of heavy racing.
My kx was faster than my 14 crf 450, but it had a fully, fully decked out engine.
Get 21.5mm offset clamps and a pro circuit link, it they make a world of difference..

|

Cheers deltamotocross I will keep an eye on that during strip down.

I'm thinking of power coating the frame and swing arm black and creating a hanny replica. What you think?

Here is my 2005 Before and after, love mine!

I helped a friend getting ready for the nationals and supercross on the 2005 kx250....the problem we had was always breaking the cylinder base studs!

The hot ticket on the setup was to machine the plate in the shock 2mm recess. It lowered the back end 10mm and with the shorter shock held it up better in the damping curve

|

11/1/2014 11:42 AM

Cheers Bruce!
I'll watchout for those cylinder base studs. Plenty of WD40

X2 on the Pro Circuit link in the rear to help with handling, I have not added the 21.5 offset triple clamps so I cannot say how much that will help. If you read the MXA test on the 05-07 KX250 they have many tips on how to get the most out of them. On my 06 I have had the Cylinder and head modified by Tom Morgan and run a PC pipe and stock silencer and it hits hard in the Middle and pulls to the moon on over rev!

As mentioned above the Power valve return spring that is on the side of the cylinder breaks with alarming regularity so order a couple to keep on hand.

Overall I love mine, it is a blast to ride and people always come up and start conversations about it with me in the pits at the track!

Never try to argue with idiots; they will only bring you down to their level.....and being more experienced, they will beat you at their own game!

Ok so I picked her up today. She was a bit rough on the outside but it's nothing some elbow grease and a new set of plastics and graphics won't sort.

She does need a new airbox though..

Here's some pics i took whilst stripping her down.

There's lots of other little trick bits but I won't bore you with the whole list.

I think the plan is, get a new airbox, throw the old plastics back on her and get a couple of rides in and then come December its a complete strip down and rebuild.

I will stick a project thread up when the time comes.

I feel like a little kid at Christmas again, I can't wait to get back on a track for the first time in 2-3 years!!

Sweet Pick up man I had an 03 kx250 a couple years ago that just had a pipe and reeds and a PC Link Arm. I thought it was very fast and had a ton of low end.I cant imagine a procircuit built 250 engine, I bet its nuts. Give us an update on how she rides.

I really liked my 05, it was a good bike except for the kickstarters breaking. I think they fixed that problem though later in the production year.

I am pretty sure that bike came from doc wobs here in the uk bud. He had a few for sale years ago. He posts on hear and has built some mega bikes himself (ex factory mechanic i think) . Bike looks good, enjoy

If you go to sell those plastics, I want them if I have enough (damn cell phone, insurance, car payments and gas!). I've been trying to find those graphics for my KX and havent been able to find them anywhere! Bike looks sick, best of luck with it!

I have an 04, and needed an airbox as well. Found one on eBay for $40, and it came with a new TwinAir!

Anyway, love my bike. Good luck with the resto, looks like you have a good one![LINK TO IMAGE]

Just because I regrettably sold this beaut about 3 months ago. Was a complete build and oh do i love and miss her. The 05's had a snappyass powerhouse, but didn't handle as well as the modern bikes do. Enjoy your fun...

Returnofjordo trust me you don't want these graphics/plastics they're shot!

I managed to message docwob today and he confirmed its one of his. He's actually been really cool and helpful, I'm pretty pleased as he is a bit of a legend over here in the UK.

I've definitely been looking into the PC linkage, I'll see how she goes and make a decision.
On the airbox I've had to go OEM its cost me 120 of my Great British pounds eBay hasn't been my friend this week...

I'll try and get some video of her singing on the weekend and post it up.

If you are considering a plastic swap/ upgrade in the future (i.e. kx250f stuff ) and already need an airbox I would do it now because the airbox swap is a must for 2014-2015 plastic swap. There are a ton of forums on the details but I think they look sweet. .

luke99, I have owned the 03, 05 and 2006 kx250's.

The 05 and 06 were pretty close, I think the transmission was slightly smoother in the 06 but both were far better bikes then the 03. Not that I felt the 03 was a bad bike, just mostly a bottom end motor.

If I was looking for another Kx250, I would choose the 05 to 07. Good find!

|

11/4/2014 5:12 AM

Cheers people.
Do you know if I could put the transmission from and 06 into my 05.

Chaseodc- I want to stick with standard to be honest I may look to put the newer front fender and no. Plate on her though. I'm yet to find any info on it though. I'm sure it will be pretty simple I can always figure it out myself.

I have an 06 KX250 in my garage that I bought with a few minutes of run time on it in 2011. Raced the thing for 3 years and only put top ends in it.

Replaced it with a 14 250SX this past spring, but I'm keeping the KX, going to do a frame up build on it eventually.

i remember someone was looking for a PC linkage and couldnt find one.

this is a good alternative

I was thinking about getting a new KTM250 2t but I used to ride mainly KX250s (last one a 04) but I want a new 2-stroke. I was wondering how the KTM felt compared to the KX?

I went from an 05 kx to a yz to a ktm. I thought the KX was a great bike, but not quite as good as the YZ (but not very different either). The KTM is much more different than both.

I too had good luck with my 05 KX but broke a kickstarter like mentioned earlier.

Looks like it has forks and top clamp off a 2012 KX450F. Looks like it has the 4 position bar mounts, and the blue fork caps came on the 12'.
