L&Mc racing leased a single bike and purchased all other practice bikes! They could not find a big sponsor to support what they already had vested! Not enough talent was under the tent to bring the big money sponsor dollars to support that team. Jeremy used every resource imaginable to bring in the right rider before settling on AS29 and when I say settling its not to be exaggerated negatively.

You are comparing apples and oranges between the two teams however, look at the support that Rch racing has, look undernieth the tents, they have as much or more men then most factory teams underneith their tents that know a thing or two about this industry. There is a huge reason for that! You think Chad Reed would have taken months of thought over cutting his own twotwo racing squad last year to move over to Rch if they had nothing to offer?

Rch is not in hot water, they have plenty of backing and have the talent under the tent to put a #1 caliber rider on their bike.

Consistency is key to any teams success and thats what Rch has shown over the past couple years. They have developed that program to house any top level rider in our sport and will show some muscle next year.
I can see it now...

HART : "Kenny, we have to terminate your contract."

ROCZEN: "What???? I'm leading ze series!!!! Why cut ze kontract?????!!!"

HART: "Sorry man, totally my fault, I left the goddamn toilet seat up one time too many and all hell broke loose...."

They may have the infrastructure now and that hopefully will continue to but JGR is the only satellite team (not industry based) to make a go things for any significant amount of time. There just isn't much ROI for non industry sponsors to float a teams boat (at least up until this point).
Moto XXX might disagree with your first sentence. Yeah, they made videos, but JGR does suspension and engines.

Who were their main sponsors? If I remember right they wound up in some capacity with MDK had Goldschläger as a sponsor then Kvamme realized there were greener pastures.

Far from it...first off we are talking contingency not overalls with factory backing. Suzuki has stepped up every year on their contingency program, it has never been cut!!! Suzuki has cut factory supported teams and their factory/amatuer programs but not their contingency!!...go look at the amateur game and see whos making money? And see what color they are riding? Alot of the guys racing on the pro level week in week have been riding the red bike since coming up and will bleed red if they have the money coming out of their own pockets! I know many racers that are stubborn in their own ways!!

As for parts ill post a break down of regularly used oem replacement parts between the two bikes when im back at my computer, they are not far apart in pricing so whoever is telling you that is full of B.S

Please do, because I'd like to tell the whole mx community I'm involved with (including a personal friend who owns a Honda, Suzuki, and KTM dealership) that they're all full of shit and CRF parts aren't cheaper Wink

Ha, thats funny...blah blah blah I know someone who knows someone

I would love to hear his list of distributors as most any dealers and small shops operated in ca and most of the west coast in general use the same major distributors. Yes volume plays a huge role in pricing, however most pricing falls in line betweeni 7 to 14% range when it comes to our costs. So unless he's ripping you off he is lying to you sorry! All asian motorcycle parts are all very close in price. Ktm is a whole different bucket of worms~

I know the factory Suzuki 450 has a good rep today, but what happens when the the other brands move ahead technically next season, will it be good enough then?

And no offense to RC or Kenny Watson, but I doubt they are going to be over at the Suzuki race shop at 8 AM on a monday after the race grinding parts on a Lathe like Decoster and Ian Harrison do for KTM to make the bike better.

My point is that DeCoster is a huge reason KTM has become the bike it is now, and I just don't see that kind of dedication to improving the motorcycle coming from RCH or cash- strapped Suzuki Corporate next near.

Right now I think KTM has the drive to be world number one, and will do whatever it takes to get there.

I just don't see that right now from Suzuki or RCH.

U bring up a valid issue. I myself can't figure out why KTM let Ken go or why he left. I understand that he probably got more money and after all, that's enough of a reason to jump ship.

But I wouldn't say RCH is a outfit capable of winning a title. The bikes are nice and the equipment is good. But I have my doubts as to potential of the team. Ken left a very professional situation for what largely amounts to a toy for RC & Hart.

I hope Ken can stay focused and not get too distracted while with that program. If so, a championship is doable. But it will be a damn tough task.

When was the last time, if ever, a private or satellite team won a 450 championship?

JGR hasn't been able to do it. And they are as professional as it gets.

FC? A satellite team and they still havent done it.

Two two? Came close.

Rockstar? Almost with Davi.

MCR? Might not even do it in Canada by the looks of things.

Private & satellite teams are better than ever these days. But still haven't gotten over the hump.

I suppose history will only show who won, so you're correct in that regard. However I'd say that in 2011 Two Two was on an even footing with any of the factory teams. Chad lost the SX title by 4 pts, and was handily taking care of all comers in the nationals until Milville.

On the flip side of that argument, when was the last time Factory Honda even came close to winning a 450 title in the post-RC era?
I am not discounting twotwo. Chad was doing great things with that team even when he was on a customer bike.

But look at the personnel Chad hired to work for him? It was an allstar team. I mean, he hired Goselar and he didn't even really need him but Chad wanted as much talent around him as possible.

RCH may have some new people in place, but last time I checked they got the same key people in key positions as always.

I get ur point, having the rider is most of it. Having the bike is next. But the team component can't be overlooked. Not all private teams are equal, despite flashy appearances and proper budgeting. KRoc has his work cut out for him.

Larry Brooks is legit.

Putting him in charge of RCH would change things dramatically for the better.

This thread has run its course, but let me throw out one more thing.

Two years ago, you had Larry Brooks and Jeremy McGrath team up on leased factory machinery, kind of the same deal as exists at RCH. Everybody back then said it was a sure fire combo, and everybody was sure that Shorty was going to be top five with all that experience and backing.

Now I think Kenny is far more capable than Andrew, in fact he may be the best rider in the world as I write this, but the formula is still the same as the LB-MC team.

Then, as now, a large casino was involved, and then out of the blue the Indians closed the checkbook for whatever reason.

So, if history repeats itself and the bills fall in the team owners lap to pay, how long will full staffing and unlimited spending occur to produce a winner?

Someone said it earlier, KTM is a business, and that business is to sell motorcycles. RCH is a hobby for a couple of wealthy guys who still want to stay in the game instead of staying home doing nothing.

If Carmichael had gone all the way in Nascar would he be doing this now?

Great post.

The McBrooks team couldn't get a tier 1 rider. If you remember back then, there was a lot of teams vying for riders services. Definitely more quality bikes than talent to fill the seats. MC & co were the odd guys out.

I do think its cool that this sport is healthy enough that top riders are actually signing to private teams. And I think it's great that more so than ever before, mfgs are willing to lease out factory equip. It's good for the sport. I don't think anyone can legitimately question the quality of bike Roczen will be on next year. IMO, it will be the best bike.

But as you said, the team in question is a hobby. Pink pulls the plug and it's adios. It's a risky move for Ken for that reason alone.

I was only referring to the "only satellite team (not industry based) to make a go (of) things for any significant amount of time" part. XXX and infrastructure? Laughing I don't know about that one.

I have seen the tribal counsel change hands in other race teams and straight leave a team in a huge bind. What came to mind reading your post was NASCAR's Kyle Bucsh started his own truck team with employees brand new mega shop etc.. Miccosukee resort was the planned titled sponsor and part of the reason the effort went forward, then they gone.

But I doubt KR is looking that far forward and probably shouldn't.

This thread is full of bad info.. go figure. Here is an older Story from TWMX on the Race Shop and Yoshimura's MFR facility all on the same block in Chino. RCH shares the same Shop, Engines and Parts warehouse as Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing.

To get back on track and in an attempt to answer the OPs question I have only this:

In my completly ignorant uninformed opinion that doesn't mean jack shit because I only have pictures, tidbits of news, my armchair, and a bag of Doritos, I can positivly say, yes, RCH is damn good enough!

Kenny's 2015 ride is in the first pic on the upper leftWink

I think Roczen is my favorite rider right now, and I really hope RCH racing kicks ass and wins for years to come.

Please Forgive my cynicism, it's just that we have all seen too many private teams fall down over the years in dirt cycle racing when the sponsor doesn't pay.

BTW is Blimpie still around? They f*cked over Suzuki too didn't they?

Arguing about whether RCH can support a championship effort is the same as doing the same thing about Yoshimura Suzuki. You can form your own opinion about that, but I say Kenny is in great hands.

There's no doubt Dungey was way better on the Suzuki. Don't know how people think otherwise. Just go back and watch his speed was better along with his style. Seems the last few years he's just been fighting the bike and he looks like a giant on it as well.

And Watson is very good at what he does.

Dude, you are missing the primary point of my question. The quality of bikes are not in dispute. It's the team itself.

If the Indian casino money dries up, how long will The owners of RCH absorb the financial gap. Carmichael is notoriously thrifty, which is good for his family, but is he going to write big checks to the team to cover payroll and Workmans comp and hotel rooms and flights and fuel every singe week if Soaring Eagle has a change in philosophy?

You say it can't happen, but look at the past:

Everybody knows the Indian casinos are the last desperation call on a teams potential sponsor list because they have developed a rep of changing tribe politics and their fickle nature.

San Manuel, Pala with the track, Sycuan, the Soboba tribe that cancelled the 2002 mxdn at the 11th hour, a few others around the country, they have all screwed somebody at some point.

AND, what is the risk of having a sponsor with no viable product to sell, where is their motivation to continue sponsorship?

Ktm, Pro Circuit, Budweiser, whomever, they sponsor race teams To expand advertising opportunity TO SELL THEIR STUFF.

No gambler I ever met gave a shit about if their casino sponsored a fucking race team.

You have a point, Brent but I think this team can survive without Soaring Eagle if they had to. I think they will have another pair of wings, if you get my drift.

Yeah that would be a legit and great thing for the team,...

..... but - (1) The Bull already has a shit-ton of dough invested in the orange team and some with Troy Lee, , and (2) RC would have to resign his commission as a General in the Monster Army, or else he could never ride one of his own RB logo bikes in public with the mandatory claw on his helmet.

I guess we will see how it plays........

I think many of you doing the argument about Kenny vs. Larry have no idea of the rest of the staff there, including Mark Johnson, Sergio, Kaipo, etc.

RCH will do it next year. Very very capable. And your comment about the team being a toy for CH & RC is about the dumbest thing I have ever heard.
Equating Kenny Watson to Larry Brooks is about the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

And Watson is very good at what he does.

There was nothing dumb in my statement.
So, a year in the books, and what has RCH been able to do with KRoc? Nada.

Reading this thread in it's entirety is funny. Some of us nailed it on the head while other's couldnt have whiffed harder.

I think KRoc was pretty good with the Team and Suzuki till Oakland where KRoc did a dump move.

Watched at him a couple times on that jump and he was not only during the race short or almost short on that jump.

Lately he suffers on some injuries which he didn't had in years.

He had no problem passing and easily beati those Ktms until reed hit his wheel. But I agree he probably wouldn't have been able to pass reed on the gaytm so he wouldn't have been hurt. so going by that theory maybe it was a bad move

I think Aldon Baker could have made KR even better but RC is not an amateur either on the mental & physical aspects to win. I think RC knows who to hire to make the bike a rocket too. KR likes the bike, plus they have the resources to be upfront.

What really killed KR's season is an injury (and now another one), nothing less, nothing more. Otherwise he is the only one able to run with RD and Tomac, or Canard and Reed when they gets the start.

He was leading the championship at the beginning of the season, so their program looks great, at least they demonstrated that in SX with Wins ! Not many teams can give a run at KTM right now and I think they are representing Suzuki very well.

Post a reply to: Is RCH good enough...
