Magoo was the test rider for Dirt Rider Magazines review of the 1985 cr500( i think it was the Dec. 1984 issue) . The photography was beautiful, and had a lot of cool pics of Danny. Id love to see someone scan the article and post it! I always think of a pic of him grinning like a little kid while sitting on that big ole cr500 Smile such great memories of him as a 12 year old fan! He seemed to be such a character. Always smiling and acting like he was really having fun. He holds a really special place inside my mind because he (and David Bailey) were the first riders I really followed when I was a kid just beginning to read mx magazines.

One in a million.

My favorite pics of him riding backwards across the finish and him railing with mangled bars/broken peg are PRICELESS. Have them both saved to a flash drive with no immediate access so can someone please post them up. I'd greatly appreciate it.

Several people have that "one crazy friend."

Those that had Magoo as theirs were truly blessed by it.

A true legend in the sport and not just because of his ability on the track.

Watching his aggression/speed in sheer awe at High Point in the early 80's is forever etched in my mind. My all-time favorite.

Thanks for the great pic!

I was racing at a little track in SE Kansas when I was 7, and Magoo happened to show up that day. After one of his motos, I grabbed a soda out of our cooler, walked over to his truck to give it to him and let him know how fast he was! (Before anyone busts my balls, this was in 81, I was only 7!). When I arrived, he had his girlfriend fetching his Copenhagen out of the cab of his truck, I gave him the soda, and he offered me some chew ( how times have changed...), I declined, but he said he would look for me later that day. Later, while sitting on the line for my last moto, Magoo comes over to the line, and sits on the back of my YZinger with me for at least 10 minutes just to say good luck, and BS with me. Looking back now, that was pure class on his part, and I will never forget how awesome it felt to see him cheering for me in my moto. Magoo was definitely one of the good guys!! That day made me a fan for life...

How is it possible to be both "Classy" and "Crazy", because I think Danny pulled it off with utter ease. He is so special, thanks Clutchy. I was one of the lucky ones, too, that had a chance to meet him, work with him, ride with him, and in everything, laugh with him. Legend for sure.

Magoo is a badass even though he was in a wheelchair that didn't stop him. I actually re-watched Wild Magoo on YouTube last night he's one of the best racers the sport has ever seen imo. RIP Chandler

There are a million awesome shots of Danny out there , but with Clutchy's intent on what this thread is all about , here are a couple I think that fit the description of Danny having fun and putting a smile on people's faces. Legend!

A neighbor of mine in sacramento was good friends with him, he would come by every so often and I would talk to him.

Very nice guy and always had something good to say. The guy never stopped smiling.

I wasn't old enough to watch him race, but my dad had stories and I would talk to him about that.

Good to see this, thanks Clutchy.

Had the pleasure of watching Danny race a half dozen times or so and saw him do some wild shit a few times, there was always a buzz in air when he was on the track. Imho he sits at the top of MX MT Everest by way of his four moto sweep of he 1982 Trophy and Motocross Des Nations. Nobody ever did it before him and nobody will probably ever have the chance to duplicate his feat. Look up WFO in the dictionary and you will find a picture of Magoo.

My favorite shot of Danny. He was a little like Bubba for me because if he was on the track I could not take my eyes off him for fear that I was going to miss something spectacular!

Ooooooh. Danny was something else. All time favorite rider. It's too bad riders today don't get to see a rider like him. He's not an all-time winner type rider , but man, he was balls out fast. Scary fast as you were scared for everything around him. You just never knew what would happen. It was like watching an LCQ every lap.

I remember Hannah and Magoo at Saddleback. Sketcky racing. It was like Hannah saying, "Damn it. If he jumps it, I have to also." It was like RC and Bubba when Bubba was on a 250 and RC on the 450. That's the best example. Just crazy tight, but fast racing. Magoo was bigger than life.

Danny enjoying his 50th birthday at Franciacorta MXDN in 2009. Even had Giuseppe Luongo sing "Happy Birthday" to him!

The Italian fans really appreciated meeting him, little did we know it was going to be his last time.
Whilst his friend Kris Egbert sorted out lost shipments of posters and Lufthansa who wrecked his wheelchair, Danny and I chatted for over an hour in their hire van outside hotel, just talking about our kids, life etc.
Danny was a special guy I'll never forget and honoured to call a friend!
