Brand new spanking pair of size 12 Fox Instinct boots, third strap up, the inside round piece that holds the male part of the strap on breaks in half. I don't think a pair of Fox Instinct boots for $549 should have crap pieces made in China on them.
Going back to my trusty Alpinestars Tech 10's.

Gaerne's SG12's are the best boot on the market today, following closely by Sidi's.. I wouldn't argue that fox or A* and make a comfortable boot, but they aren't on the same level. The buckles on A* blow balls in comparison!

Good luck with the A Stars. No more of those on my dime. Faithful to them for many years but the plastic they use obviously has a self destruct date on it. And to complain about another brand of buckle? A Star buckles fall apart on a regular basis. At least mine did.

Seems like many boot manufacturers use shitty buckles. My tcx boots offer the best protection I've ever had, but the buckles are of poor quality.

I wore Alpine Stars for 3yrs and switched to the Sidi Crossfire only because the AStars were out of stock when I really needed some boots. Never been happier, great boot, bullet proof and shows hardly any signs of use after one whole summer.

i was thinking about getting the new Fox boot...

my SG10's have been the best boot i've ever worn (AXO, AStar, TCX, FOX, SIDI) and still have a year or more in them, then i think i'll go to SG12. looks like a solid boot and if it is anything like the SG10 then i know it will be worth the money.

The Fox Insticts are great boots. Better than Tech 10's in my opinion.

They did have some problems with the Limited Edition red one's that first came out. I have experience first hand with broken buckles and other premature wear on mine. That being said, Fox was quick to completely replace my boots with an updated pair in any color of my choosing as soon as I notified them. My new boots are holding up great in all the ways the original ones failed so far.

Trust me, a quick call to Fox's warranty dept. will result in a new pair of boots and I'm sure if problems persist they will continue to accommodate customers.

The kick starter went through the inside of both pairs of fox boots I've owned and they were always the top model. Right into my ankle. I really liked the 661 flight boots, but the soles were too soft and wore quickly. My Sidi's were nice boots, but fell apart often due to all the pieces. Got my first pair of Gaerne's after over 20 years of riding, but have yet to hit the track with them.

Alpinestar Tech 8's and a 74 CR250 Honda do not mix well in regards to the kickstart going through the boot. The entire inner side was chewed to shit with numerous tears and holes before the plastic deteriorated and started falling to pieces. Truly a shit boot.

SG12's are the bee's knees!

I have had two pairs of SG10s and they are indestructible.....AS LONG AS YOU MAKE SURE THE INSIDE ANKLE PIVOT SCREWS STAY TIGHT.....that's the only issue I've had and it's a bad prob if you loose a screw....very hard to repair and Gaerne doesn't sell that screw/washer. Alpinstar Tech 7s ripped in about 4 months.....and you need a good damned hammer to buckle them....

Stick with Gaerne's. I love my 12's. I like the design better than the 10's. Mine have held up great after 2 years of moto/woods.

I've worn Alpinestars Tech7 and 8, as well as a few Berik and SIDI boots, nothing has compared to the 12's.

I only had one pair of fox boots. Comfy as anything but the ankle support was crap In a year. Went to tech tens and haven't looked back. Just got my 3rd season out of them and have had no issues.

Destroyed a pair of Tech10's in the first month and a half of this summer. Thought I'd try something new, so went with the new Jett boots. They are incredible and feel like tennis shoes. They are WAY lighter than any other boot I've worn. Parts are easy to replace, adjust, and clean. The boots are very well thought out still look brand new after riding with them all summer. I've worn Tech 8's, 10's, Sidi Crossfires, etc etc and these are a level above anything I've worn.

all speculation of course, but would you have purchased a 10/11 YZ450 after JS's failed run, or those YZ's rarely made a podium? First year model (insert brand/product here) are usually hype and "hopeful" new technology. Kinda like the 97/98 CR 250 aluminum frames..

the instinct is still a first release boot of that quality for FOX. the idea is great, looks great, light weight, but so was the 97 CR250. my point with the foot injury is when did anyone have an injury to that extent with SG10s? or their F3's? even Reed switched back to Astars.

Regardless of their mainstream pollution, they still make a good product, but not everything can be great. Even SCOTT fell down twice with their next generation boot

Figured the buckle on the new Fox boot would be more durable based on the whipping they gave Reed. ...................kidding. Wink

I sent an email to Fox this morning. We shall see what happens.
I'm surprised because I felt that a higher priced boot would not have
Issues like this. I had the Scott Genius boot and I loved them. Sadly Scott doesn't make them anymore.
Tech 10's are cool, but I don't like the bootie. Also having bigger calves, the Sidi's are awesome.
I almost wish someone would make an 18-19" boot for those of us with taller legs, adds to leg protection.

Reed was wearing Instincts when he got hurt, and everything I've seen of his training videos and the Dade race have been with Instincts as well. When did he switch back to Astars?

i could be wrong on that, i thought i had seen he switched. my mistake if incorrect.

btw, not condemning the product, just observing what i see. not always right/wrong, and theres an ass for every seat..

Unlike apparel, country of manufacture still matters in MX boots. The Italian brands have a big edge in lasting (fit), plastic molding, plastic compounds, etc.

This is Fox's first hinge boot. It is a cool design, I will will say that.

SG10s and SG12s are just great products, and great boots. Simple designs really, but perfectly executed. This is why they are so popular...they're good. Sidis also.

I have been using these, from another Italian mfg. Had a pair in 2008, wore them out, got this version. Really like them

Forma is not new to the market, they have been around for a while. They build good stuff.
