Looks like a stock 02 2 stroke frame with a 4 stroke (03-05) tank and shrouds...

I found this last night on Ebay as well.

I think the bike is cool as hell. Not my cup of tea but still a very cool project bike.

That's similar to the bike I keep saying the mfgs. need to sell as an entry level bike. Not a YZ490 powered version, but a fairly simple lower end real motocross bike priced under 4 grand.

a buddy of mine has a 490, cool bike for sure, he is also building a 02 rm250 chassis with a 91 kx500 in it, and he has an aluminum frame cr500. This 490 is nicer than his,I think am going to forward this link to him.........

Agree. Excellent idea.

I wonder what kind of pipe that is? Doesn't look like a regular YZ490 pipe.

I've often thought of doing something like that with the motor out of my beloved '84 IT200. That motor is basically a YZ125 lower end with a longer throw crank and an air-cooled larger bore cylinder.

Drop that torquey easy-to-ride mill into a modern YZ chassis...Yeah!

That would be cool to do one just like it with a red frame white plastics and gold rims.

Dang......that is a pretty sweet bike for sure. Very unique indeed. Surprised how he got a big ol' YZ490 stuffed into that frame.....it looks like it fit really well. Be a fun bike to go play around on.

If Japan won't build it, then maybe AJ should be stuffing Elsinore engines into new generation frames instead of 500s?

Whats the deal with copryright law on a 30 year old engine design? Could a 79 CR250 motor be copied and manufactured in the US without legal action from Honda?

Anything AJ sells won't be an "entry level bike". $$$

What would they say when the low end bikes are consistently beating the high end bikes in the c classes? lol. I really hate the 2t vs 4t argument but we all know 20 yr old tech can win in the c class any day.

That is one sweet bike. I had a 1988 YZ490 for a little while and the power was great. I found it a very easy bike to ride once you got started! I bet this would be a blast to ride. So what is the kick starter from? YZF450?

Agreed.....holy sh!t thats in long beach.....im gonna have to go check it out, that would be a blast to ride!!1

As for custom making 2 strokes.....I dont want to retype but you can see how ashamed I am if you read my post in the cl deal thread currently going on......how sad is it that if you want to ride a modern-ish 2 stroke big bore or even 125 or 250 you have to make it yourself in you backyard essentially speaking......stupid japanaese mfg's there is a grass roots following with these custom 2 strokes and its a sad day that we have been relegated to this in order to rider 2 strokes because other than KTM and TM we cannot buy them new anymore .....Ill never buy a new bike unless its a 2 stroke looks like ill be taking my money to KTM next.

Yes, I agree with you. AJ should be stuffing those motors somewhere. A bike frame wasn't the location I had in mind.
If anyone thinks he's Gods Gift to custom fab, go to bannedCR500riders.com Go to B.S. section and click on the SH AF thread. I rest my case. Perhaps it's time to step up to the plate and actually build a quality piece. Next time he comes here to get his ego stroked, perhaps we can discuss this. AJ may personally be a great guy, and I have no quarrel with him on that level. IF you are going to charge that kind of money for a custom product, at least make sure your welds don't SUCK! The irony of this is that bike is his "Advertise" piece. Posted on the website for the world to see. If you're paying attention.
While you are there, see what the other guys on banned are building. In their garages, as a sideline.
