You guys nailed it. The money vampires actually run actuaries on cost/benefit of "customer service". They know at what level of customer service they provide generates the most profit. Pride in company/quality, integrity, etc. has nothing to do with it. Losing 10% of your customers costs less than the overhead and personnel to retain them. I think what is causing it everywhere is the lack of recourse. Meaning, a customer service representative can tell you to go eat corn the long way, and you can't do a damned thing about it. What actual incentive does a multimillion dollar corporation have to make things right? Zero. What are you going to do? Leave a bad Yelp review? The only voice anyone has is their wallet and once you open it, you go silent.
