3/27/2019 8:16pm Thx...Its going to be a weekly track bike...probably more modern tracks than Vintage tracks. The cases are powder coated. The alum finish on the cylinder is the result of the PowerSeal USA cleaning process. The head has a mild (muriatic) acid surface finish. That's OEM finish on the black side cover and silver clutch cover.

3/27/2019 10:53am Thx! I wanted to do this one a bit different...its still an old school looking racer with fork boots, but the black rims make it a bit more contemporary looking...then, it just seemed to me that the black fork boots work with the black rims...in place of the iconic '88 red fork boots. I think it looks more agressive with...

3/21/2019 9:16am My '83 CR250 and CR480 use the same carb insulator...even though they have different size carbs. The stock Keihin 36 mm and 38 mm carbs have same outer dia at carb insulator interface.

8/20/2018 10:41am From what I have seen, the upper triple clamp on my '83 CR250 and '88 CR250 could be the same...they have hard mounted bars that are centered behind the steering stem...makes the bars feel low and close compared to a modern bike. My '83 CR480 top triple is shaped the same, but has removeable, rubber isolated bar mounts. I think...

8/20/2018 10:30am The stock 36 mm Keihin carby can work fine. Stock: #160 main Pilot: #75 OEM is jetted for sea level altitude and 20:1 pre-mix ratio. I ride at 1000-3000 ft elevation (PHX and Tucson) and use 32:1 premix so the stock jetting needs to be leaned out. I've tried leaner Pilots...#70....#65...#62...and right now, I've got a #60 in it with...

12/20/2017 10:24am I've been 'racing' a '83 CR250R. Last season, we had 125, 250, and Open classes. This season, it has been consolidated to 125 and Open classes. So, my 250 gets 'scored' against CR480s getting the hole shots. It would be easy to complain and get frustrated when I get passed by a big bore, but then, when a guy on...
Sofiedog Added a reply to Too many classes..how to break up VMX?
12/20/2017 10:15am I just started racing VMX with the AVDRA club in Phx/Tucson. As a beginning Novice, I would finish at the back of the pack and get a 1st or 2nd place trophy for my class...kinda empty 'accomplishment'. The more I race these events, I have done 6 races, the more I become convinced its more about rider ability than technology...

11/8/2017 3:47pm Was the data from 2017 bikes used for the hp and torque overlays only the KTM and Husky? The article said some of the 'optional' maps made more hp than the curve used for the overlay. Which bikes made more hp with their optional map?
Sofiedog Added a reply to What's old 1980 CR250R worth?
10/6/2017 8:54am Thx for the reply...I completely agree. After thinking about it...this hobby is not really that expensive relative to other hobbies and is quite affordable if you are an older guy who has saved up some money. Imagine if these were sports cars! Add another zero to the end of every cost! In your case, you may wind up with $3,500...

10/4/2017 2:10pm Wow...that's really amazing...incredible Newman. Going to take your guys advice and wait for something else...Given I ride them on weekends and am starting to race regularly, I would prefer to get something in running condition. Time spent in the garage for me is less time riding. There are bound to be guys getting a little too gray to keep racing...
