Sofiedog Added a reply to What's old 1980 CR250R worth?

Thx guys...I appreciate it...his CL asking price is $1450...its been sitting there a few days. I've been racing an '83 CR250R, which is a pretty easy bike for a beginner Novice (me) to ride...I'm looking to try a twin shock bike to race and would like to get one of the easier ones to ride...was looking at the '78-80 CR250Rs...

Sofiedog Started a new thread 78 YZ250E Shock/Swingarm bushings

I have more play than I would like in the lower shock bushing/upper swingarm bushing. The lower shock and upper swingarm bushings seem worn. There is too much play. The bolt is in good condition. The bushings dont seem to be a replaceable Yamaha part? Does anyone sell bushings? or rebuild the shock and swingarm bushings? I've cleaned...

Thx...I'll be patient...I can't be the first with this question and this forum group seems very experienced. It looks like the same issue with that upper swingarm bushing...it shows up as a replaceable part #38 in the '79 swingarm diagram (bottom), but is not shown in the '78 diagram. So, again, if the bushings are the same...then I can rebuild...

Ahh...I tried to correlate the '79 lower shock bushing number, but I can't. The '78 parts diagrams do not show it as a replaceable part. The '79 parts diagram shows the replaceable part....but it looks a bit different, to me. I'm no expert...the '78 and '79 lower shock bushings look different to me in that photo.? Maybe...the answer is to...

Thx...my swingarm pivot bearings and collars are good...The worn bushings are in the upper swingarm where the bottom of the shock attaches/ pivots...I can see a bushing in there...but doesn't show up on parts list... I'll call as you suggest...

Sofiedog Added a reply to Another 1978 YZ 250 question

I started with the stock #380 main and #60 pilot. Mine has the stock 6F16-3 needle and stock #3.0 slide. I wound up leaning out the jets for my 2,000 -3,000 ft elevation and for the change from the stock 20:1 pre-mix to the 32:1 that I am running, now. Right now, I have been trying a #360 main and...

Sofiedog Started a new thread 1978 YZ250E fork preload

6/13/2017 8:46am
I believe these are the stock 38mm KYBs. I've been trying some things to get them tuned up. The fork spring preload seemed way to high in stock form with very little static fork sag and a stiff feel. I'm going to try to see how they feel with the 2" preload spacer not installed. As you can see from...

I had a chance to get it out yesterday with the lower fork preload. It felt pretty good, for a '78. Forks are stock. Not much adjustment capability. You can change the fork oil viscocity and vary the air pressure. I'm also trying to vary pre-load to determine effects. It definitely needs something close to the recommended 14psi in the...

Thx. I got the bike out for a while today. It ran very well. Most noticeable changes were a much more crisp throttle response, a feeling of more low rpm power, amd better idling.

I bought this bike a few months ago and have been fixing it up and have raced it a few times. It's my first 2-stroke bike. Engine runs well, but still needs some fine tuning on the jetting. I finally got around to pulling the reed valve out to look at it. It looks stock, to me, with the metal...

Can also switch to Evans waterless coolant...that's what I'm doing...here's the between pic with the corrosion cleaned out and final pic with JB Weld applied, cured, and sanded. It seems to be holding up...no leaks... When I cleaned out the corrosion, there was a hole in the case between the water pump side and the oil side. Only a layer...

Have you actually looked at the condition of the '87 shaft? There are other leak paths. I think that is one of the years that has the magnesium alloy side cover? What condition is it in? On my '83, I left off that #18 flat washer behind the impeller. The cap nut, #15, couldnt tighten down on the sealing washer...

yeah..but the bikes are tall....no problem for me, I'm 6ft with a 32" inseam...bike feels ok to me, but if I were shorter, I could see cutting the foam to get my feet down...
This '83 CR250R is easy for me to pick apart, because I have one...bike is not safe to ride... The rear brake cable is loose, even though all the adjustment has been taken up..the rear brake arm is bent...the chain adjusters lock nuts are missing or not correct.. If you bought it as a non-rideable bike to look at...
