24 hours after the race and my eyes are just now getting back to normal, my nose has been clogged all damn day and I even used my inhaler in between the second 250/450 gangbangs. I’ve lived in the valley for a long time this isn’t our typical spring allergies After attending every race in State Farm and the last few @ chase this was by far the haziest I’ve ever seen it and even made a comment to a buddy that I was surprised the roof was barley cracked open

Seeing this thread was a shock to me - we went to both Indy and Detroit and experienced the same symptoms. Both of my sons more so than me. Eyes were bloodshot as hell, hoarse voice and a persistent cough. Thought it was cold symptoms after Indy but then a week later Detroit caused the same things again but didn't seem quite as bad. We did leave Detroit stadium for fresh air and to get drinks from our car in the middle of the day so that may have helped. Couldn't be pollen as Indy and Detroit both were cold...

Heck of a lot more in dirt bike exhaust than just CO, especially when they’re burning race fuel.

Ya, I left the stadium to get my inhaler and was fine by the time I got my inhaler. Took a puff just to be safe and brought it back with me. But as soon as I get outside of the stadium, I was feeling much better. This most certainly had nothing to do with allergies like pollen. The dust in the air bothered me, but it sure felt like race fuel fumes and poor ventilation. The pyrotechnics in the opening ceremonies didn't help either. The roof is normally completely open for those. All the haziness the whole night is...

So over the years there has been hundreds maybe even thousands of races and I have never heard of this happening until it happened for the first time last year at minneapolis (I think it was). Now come this year and theres been no complaints all year until last weekend and now you have dozens and dozens of ppl all saying the exact same thing after that race. Something is clearly happening to where you hear absolutely nothing after each race and then all of a sudden everybody is in agreeance that something went wrong and caused ppl issues at...

Were the tunnels open when the roof was opened, If not the roof open only doesn’t do much? For a “natural draft”, that would matter, there needs to be an air inlet to create draft as the hot air rises. in saying all that, over 40ish years of attending SX races I have had similar symptoms as being described happen a few times from different locations. I’m pretty sure they teeter on the exposure limits at these events. Not necessarily a single point exceedence level but more on the Time Waited Average exposure limit.

For all who are claiming this as "allergies" are f'n morons! You have a dome filled with toxic fumes with a supposed professional crew running the show and you do not open the roof to relieve the mass of cloudy gasses??

Wasn't a one time thing. Had this issue the first time they held a race at this stadium. Year after I sat at the bottom and didn't have an issue. They should move this race back to the ballpark!

Valid point about the snot rockets. I did shoot off a couple but wasn’t able to properly inspect them.

I’ve been to every event they’ve held there, plus the previous 6 or 8 downtown. I’ve never experienced this before in either venue. Then again, I don’t think I’ve ever been there this time of year. I feel like it was a perfect storm type of scenario and, PS: my eyes are still burning.

Do they check fuel for oxidizers? Toluene ,benzine . if no testing is going on I'd be running a tricked fuel, easiest way to make horsepower. Dust would show up when blowing a snot rocket.

You make a valid point we went to the daytime practice and qualifying As soon as you entered the stadium it hits you like a ton of bricks and for 2 seconds I like the smell of napalm errrr I mean Race Fuel. After that it got real old fast. So after Qualifying we went back out to the Van to barbecue, by the time we re-entered the stadium my eyes were already bloodshot red and slight burn not nearly as bad as later that night and next day. But I'm sure shooting off Chinese fireworks with a barely cracked...

I don’t think it was the pyrotechnics. I noticed my eyes burning during qualifying, hours before the opening ceremony started.

Watching the race replay now. Even at the start of the 1st 250 moto, the place looked like a fog bank had rolled in. White. Not the green haze of pollen. Not the brown color of track dust. But at that time could there have been enough moto action on track to cause enough fumes to give so many people such a bad reaction ?? Who made the pyrotechnics ??

That is so strange that with a firework show like they have at Supercross, they'd keep the roof almost completely closed, it's not as if there was a threat of rain in Phoenix on Saturday night. I don't trust ANYTHING! that comes out of China and if those fireworks come from there, who knows what kind of chemicals they use to mix together in those rockets. First they bombard the world with a Biological Covid Bomb and now maybe they're attacking America with Fireworks made out of poisonous substances. No wonder they didn't want to shoot down that Chinese Balloon...
