There are 12 temperature sensors inside the battery, six per side. It will limit on the hottest sensor. If one of them is problematic (reading a temperature significantly hotter than actual temperature) that will cause it to falsely limit. It will limit because it thinks the battery IS hot, not because it thinks the battery will BE hot. The prototype...

Hi Beagle. Not involved with flux. Been pretty busy. Now we have pretty good experience with MOSFET based inverters in addition to IGBT. That is the reason for the poll on electric dirt riders. We are looking at producing MOSFET based inverters also. Looking to see what we can do traction wise. That is both a personal interest and also...

Are you sure it is limiting because of battery temperature? When the light comes on does it say battery temp, motor temp, or inverter temp? It could be any of those 3. I would actually lean towards motor. So does it just give a temperature warning light or specify on which component it is thermal limiting?

"The guys in Croatia designed the inverter, not the battery pack, the battery pack was designed by Anton and Paul..." Oh really? You obviously have more inside info than the guys in Croatia!

I wouldn't doubt that the $100 deposit was a strategy to drum up a high number of pre-orders to use to secure financing, whether that was financing to get the company off the ground or, like some here are suggesting, to sell the whole venture for a big profit remains to be seen. What we do know is that they have developed a bike that is a finished product and seems to deliver basically what they promised. The Stark Varg is not complete vaporware despite what some may think. The truth is, since Alta closed up, there has been a...

If you took 100 cells out of it (70g per cell) that is 7kg less for a 25% battery capacity loss. Now the battery can deliver less power (because it has more internal resistance) so you can reduce the size of the motor by perhaps 2kg. Now you have 9kg less, 75% of the energy and power. These are all...

The "media event" bikes ridden by the press were _not_ lighter than the production bikes. The production bikes have a better battery than the media event bikes.

I don’t ride my ICE bikes for the environment nor am in interested in an electric mx bike for the environment. I want it because of my experience with our KTM SXe5. Literally no maintenance, no heat, and as Bryan stated you can instantly change its character for mx, hard enduro, trail riding and it does them all well and doesn’t get hot. I am also not a pro just a 30A guy so that hardly races and just wants to have fun. im tired of cleaning filters and changing oil. My sons SXe5 is going into its 3rd season...

It is a carbon fiber sleeve because it needs to be. When you take into account the RPM, temperature, and available thickness for the sleeve a glass fiber sleeve would likely not do the job. A carbon sleeve is really no big deal. Alta has that too. Most marketing departments like to brag about exotic and expensive materials, etc. The...

So you have no idea about the engineering behind it, but lecture fs, who’s an engineer and works on the Varg, about how a well funded amateur with machine shop could come up with a bike like that in 12 month! This is a bad joke right?

Wait, what?!!! They're going to ban ICE engines in Paris? That can't be true, it just can't. I mean, I am 99% finished with my two-strokes-only track that goes up, over, and back around the Dragon's Back I built over the Champs Elysees before going straight up and down the Eiffel Tower I just covered with fresh loam and then over a step-up I built over the Louvre Pyramid and then finishing on a killer whoop section I've built on the steps of Pompidou. I mean, the dirt is already in place, it's all done. I was just finishing up...

The frame geometry is pretty much unchanged. With the old design when you remove the battery the bike needs to be supported because one bolt goes through the frame and battery and center casting which holds the motor and inverter. That is no longer the case so when you remove the battery the bike does not need to be supported...

I have decided to share a bit more info and photos to add some context to my statement that those photos are not a year old. Keep in mind that the mechanical components (except for brakes, forks, etc), battery, motor, and all electronics are custom. The manufacture of these components is critical and the photos of the bike assembly line...

The gears are helical. Their contribution to the sound is significant, but the motor by itself is audible for sure. The fan is high capacity to keep the coolant temperature low. Lower temperature equals lower copper losses and lower IGBT losses. Normally the fan won't run when the coolant is cool. For the media event we used the fan as...

It likely makes some difference but less than with a combustion engine since the rotation mass is so much less.
