DrGreg Started a new thread 1984 KX250, the restoration "befores"

I looked for one of these for a long time and actually found this one locally about a year ago. Other projects have finally wrapped up so I can now devote my attention to this one. I'm lousy at photographically documenting my builds as they progress but will try to do a better job with this one and share along...

DrGreg Started a new thread YZ100 - IT175 cylinder conversion

4/18/2019 8:36pm
With the renewed interest in the YZ100's, I'm wondering if anyone has actually done the conversion of putting a 1982/83 IT175 cylinder on a 1982/83 YZ100 ? I have spent time researching this online and have found some opinions that this can be done, but no one who has actually done it. What I have learned so far is that...

I put a 1985 IT200 pipe and silencer on mine to really let it "breath". Fit was actually pretty darn close. Charlie St. John definitely had to rework the pipe/silencer junction and modify the pipe mount to the frame somewhat but it all fit perfectly after he was done. Bike had such a unique bad ass tone/sound to it people...

I'm assuming 83 and 84 pegs are the same. I found pegs for a early yz80 (I think 86) that look just like Pro Circuit pegs that fit might fit your bike. At some point yz80/85 pegs changed to the same as newer YZ big bike pegs that won't work. Again I'm not sure but to give you direction, I believe early XR pegs like XR350 pegs will work also . You are going to want to length your shift lever too.I put on the new pegs and went racing. Big mistake. I misses 25% of my shifts as I...

I put RM80 foot pegs on my 1985 KX 125, they are perfect. Not sure 84s are the same but it worth a look. Jon

I think that looks great. Reminds me a bit of the 1978 Keystone YZ

Hey Vetmotoxer34- Man I've been away from Vital for a while. Glad I could be of help on your build! Your bike turned out great and from the reports I've heard from my TVRC buddies it rips. I'm glad you went to Charlie, he's the "man" with stuff like this. As you saw his work is better than the factory's...

MaxPower, if you could post a copy of the frame strengthening article it would be greatly appreciated. I've had my 84 125 for a few years now, but its just been sitting in the garage waiting for my time to get it race ready again. It's a relatively low hour bike. I just took the cylinder off tonight and a bit heartbroken to see the exhaust port bridge cracked right through. was this a common problem with this model? I guess its repairable... just thought i was through spending money on this beauty, i guess not. Took me the last...

I agree. I don’t know what happened but I can’t see any photos in any older restoration thread. All of them have some “update third party hosting” message. Frustrating as some of those threads are/were a great resource.

I’m using an iPhone and I can’t see a lot of the older threads photos which sucks. There’s so much good content in these restoration threads.

I personally wear a Fox Proframe over or under the jersey (usually over) with an Atlas Air brace on top with the straps. I don’t understand how people don’t use the straps for these neck braces, it would drive me crazy having it float around over jumps and whatnot. The brace rests on top of the chest protector, which is nice because I don’t worry so much about how the impact would be on my collarbone if it was resting on it instead.

Absolutely outstanding work! How many hours of sanding would you estimate it took to get the tank back to that condition. How did you have the frame VIN decal made? Just really outstanding.
