RV, RD, and CR can win the championship by winning the last 3 races, no matter what happens behind them.
For Stewart to win, he'd need to win the rest AND:
Villopoto gets a 3rd, 3rd, and 4th or worse.
Dungey gets a 2nd, 2nd, and 3rd or worse (tie goes to Stewart for more wins, right?)
For Canard to win, he'd need to win the rest AND:
Villopoto gets a 4th, 4th, and 4th or worse.
Dungey gets a 3rd, 3rd and 3rd or worse (tie goes to Canard for more wins)
Reed gets 2nd, 3rd, 3rd, or worse.

If Bubba wins the last 4 that means he won the most.....and was the strongest and fastest down the stretch. But gave it away due to race rust, mental pressure, team issues, lack of focus/underestimation of comp. and bike setup.
If Dungey is on the box the last 3 rounds it means he's the best and most consistent racer night in night out. Just a touch UNLUCKY and a touch tentative, but clean racer. Really who had the best 13 races? If he wins the last three? The strength and pace comes to mind and hand him the outdoor title too.
If Reed throw's down and starts winning out....he can cement a legacy. If he wins 4 total and the last 3, he was the man. See "if bubba" If not, he's just a member of the top 5. A gate keeper for next year.
If Villopoto wins out, he was just about the fastest, but for sure the hungriest in the end and beginning. And will probably win next years title too. His not qualify night in a middle of season miscue that won't exist for him next year.
If Trey win's out.....wow. He might then win the title next year.
Speed is alot of things but not everything. 17 rounds is an eternity. Which is why 5 contenders is like a merry go round.
The candy is in the pin yata.......grab a big fucking bat and smash it.
Seems like RD is matching Villopoto's speed now. If RD can finish ahead of RV the next two rounds he could be in real good shape come Vegas. Unless Stewart wins the next two, RD might not have to worry about him.
will dungey pass riders faster?
will stewart win the remaining races?
will canard go spastic to stay at a pace of stewart and cause one or both ryans to bobble?
will reed charge only if its safe?
will 1 or more of these riders have a 17-20th finish by series end for whatever reason?
will there be another rider other than the top 5 mentioned share the podiuim boxs ?
Pit Row
With that in mind and assuming the same dirt- does it change anyones opinion of this thing and why?
sheeeeesh
I'd take Reed for Vegas as well. Hard and slick and usually very technical.. I can see A LOT of guys making mistakes/crashing there with so few points between them. Dungey finished 3 seconds ahead of Reed (who was on a bike he hated) in Vegas last year. I also believe Reed has a lot more win there than any of the other guys.
Salt Lake is a toss up. I say Stewart takes it in similar style to this past weekend (without the tears).

as for the asterix.....as someone who believes in it and has applied it to riders before, i have a hard time with anyone trying to nail dungey with an asterix. even those who were trying to prior to this year i dont agree with. if he wins this title, it will be three in a row (sx, mx, sx) and it will be in what was arguably the greatest sx season ever. and he did it HIS WAY, the way everyone was knocking him for at about race 2 thru race 12. his strategy has worked marvelously and he should be credited for it. imo racing isnt just about who is the fastest, strategy is a big part of it and dungeys approach should not be held against him. so imo, no way in hell he, or anyone else for that matter can get stuck with an asterix at this point.
my pick was dungey from the start. but about half way thru i started rooting for reed. i still think dungey will win it. but i hope reed does. like said above, it will cement his legacy as not just the hall of famer that he already is, but i believe it will really put his career right on par with the RC's and MC's of the sport.
Let's just settle it right now, whoever has the most points at the end of the season was the best supercross racer this year, period! I'm rooting for Dungey and if he wins, great. If he doesn't, it won't be because of the chain. Likewise if RV looses or Stewart looses, I don't want to hear it about "what ifs". This is racing, it all counts.
With that said, I can't wait for the next round.
How nervous would you be right now if you were in one of their shoes getting ready for Seattle? Can you even imagine how tough it must be to even just relax and think about anything else? I honestly think mental toughness might be the best attribute coming into the final rounds, more important even than speed or the points lead.
