I rode the Reno race back in 2005 and that was pretty close to some dangerous stuff like people and Casinos. It was really fun having the painted cross walks mid most of the street turns. With that said it was pretty fun to ride. I remember there was a high speed L/H turn at Copper Mountain and the inside of the line was railing for the side of a road in the rain. Good Times...

I see they tend to layout a lot of these courses on the infields of car ovals. I wouldn't get on a track like that with a bike, ever. Not with bare concrete retaining walls inches away. Just stupid. Isn't that how Henry was injured last time? Slid out coming up the banking and had his body thrown into the wall?
The reason Doug crashed was because a guy (squid) took off his fuel catch tank (not my product) that was not vented properly making his bike run bad. It dumped a bunch of gas on the track and 2 other riders almost ate it just before Doug. Jason Conlon was inches from the same wall.

There has been a big push for Air Fences since Anthony Hart paid the ultimate price.

If you can please donate.

Ping does it again!

Ping always shoots from the hip and tells it like he sees it and his BIG 8 page article on SuperMoto past / present / future is a must see article in the NEW January Racer X. If you are in any way involved with SuperMoto get this magazine when it hits the stands in a few weeks or sign up for the $14.98 on line version at http://www.racerxonline.com as this is a must read.

The January Racer X issue is not on the news stands yet but the on line subscription version is up.

Couple nice features on APA MX products in this Christmas issue too.

Is ama supermoto even still around?

I ride/race supermoto. The official AMA Series has been gone since 2009.

There's still the SMEC Series which is AMA sanctioned (racesmec.com).

There are clubs out there. I live in the PNW so we have Northwest Mini Moto and Cascadia Supermoto.

There's also a Norcal series. I'm sure it's the same way throughout the US, club racing.

It's too bad because SM is just as fun (or more fun) than moto. Highly underrated.

I did a couple track day on a DRZ400SM, loved it so I drove 8 hours to get this. It is nasty!

The Duel at the Docks supermoto race at the Queen Mary in Long Beach in 2006 was one of the coolest races I’ve been to.

There was a bit of a resurgence in Australia - A very cool annual event was run on closed inner-city streets in Newcastle for a few years - the promoter eventually went bust.
Some Supermotos racing at tar only road race events, and in SEQ “Minimoto” practice days at Kart Tracks there are sometimes enough Supermotos for 2 groups.

I enjoy the tar only events in my old age. We used to have a few meetings a year at a little track that really suited them.
I also have a fire breathing Husky 701SM that is my favourite street bike. And I’ve tracked it a few times - a bit heavy for racing.

Had a blast racing SM back in the day.

I could nail the starts but sucked on the pavement sections (STD street tires) but made up for it in the dirt going back around them.

Ocala Florida had a good track too.

One of Mark Burkhart's pit guys was a RonRonMX regular. He invited me and my son to hang out in the pits at the Reno Supermoto, I think in 2005. It was the year Travis ate crap doing freestyle and had a black eye.  I know, I know, that could be any year.  But I think it was when he tried a 360 and it didn't go well.  Either way, it was pretty fun hanging out in Burkhart's pit. He's just a normal guy but just a bit faster...

You just revived an 18 year old thread. Gibby hated that… lol

Ran a race in the spring on my 400 with Canadian Supermoto, down a bit on power but had fun!

My young lad loves it, doesn't want to ride dirt at all anymore really

We have nothing around here.  I have been taking advanced track training that the state offers to get some riding in.

Some of those Euro tracks were wild.  Concrete jumps, berms they would just lean it over, and concrete whoops.

Same turn

“Popeye” #4, was so much faster with the knee down style, I changed my style  (he’s just faster than me regardless)

That race was 110% how supermoto should be! Hard dirt section and cool and fast asphalt, down town somewhere. That race where Travis Pastrana ate dirt that season (mountain resort if memory serves correctly) was also great!

That would be the New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP). I haven't checked their schedule to see if they still run there.

Englishtown has that road race track & it would be cool if they could make it happen there.

The height of supermoto was awesome. Reed at the height of his career racing on pavement in the middle of the season? Can't imagine teams allowing that today. Loved gear companies like Thor making leather versions of their gear. Also loved how old guys like Henry, MC, Wardy would just blow by the young dudes.

Bushnell FL has a gocart road course that I frequently see supermoto bikes on, and it's on the same property as Bushnell MX. You could actually ride moto and road in the same day by swapping wheels.
