Visitors banged on the fence to scare Yorkshire Wildlife Park's tiger away.

A man had climbed into the tiger enclosure from a raised walkway on Saturday afternoon, one witness told the BBC. Other visitors tried to drive the tiger off by making noise at the fence.

Staff then cleared the walkway, where 15 to 20 people had been standing, and later the whole park near Doncaster, England.

Paramedics came, but the man died at the scene. Police have asked people not to share videos of what happened.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park says the tiger, Altai, will not be euthanized.

Sources: BBC, Associated Press

Glad to see they got it right. It's not the tiger's fault and he should not be killed.

Dude climbed into a pen with a tiger. It did tiger things. End of story.

Moral is don't climb into an enclosure with an apex predator.

I remember the old Lion Country Safari park near Arlington TX.  They had signs on the perimeter fence, "No Trespassing. Violators will be Eaten."

If I remember right...someone decided to see if they were telling the truth...and they were.

I'm Team Tiger!

Dude is definitely in the running for a Darwin award here. Hope he can posthumously get it as all proper Darwin award winners do.

I know. Tragic, wonder what he was thinking? When I first heard about this story, I thought he most likely jumped in there to save a little kid or something.

Many.

Not some.

City dwellers don't do well in the wild. Read up how many tourists have had negative experiences at game parks in Africa. For some reason Asians, and especially Japanese, are greatly overrepresented

There are some videos on U-boob, even 🤣.

Why would they euthanize an animal that is living in its enclosure?

Different story if it's a worker or staff member and shit went wrong, but if you're stupid enough to temp your luck, enter an enclosure you're not supposed to and is there to protect you, well, that's your problem.

Play stupid games. Win stupid prizes.

No reason whatsoever to end that animals life over the stupidity of one person.

One less moran (moron) to deal with. Fucking idiot.

Certainly ain't the tiger's fault and the call not euthanize the Tiger is correct.

Yeah sounds like they nailed that diagnosis, but what kind of mental issues ? If he was suicidal kudos to him for taking a ballsy way out, if he was pretty far on the spectrum and thought he was going to be friends with the tiger, then that's a different story. I feel sorry for his family and friends. I wonder how many people have that image etched in their brains forever, the sound had to be gnarly😶

Well someone stood up for the wild life

A whole lot of time ago sealand aquarium in Victoria wanted a killer whale to house in its marine display. So they managed to pay some smuck fisherman from Washington state to get a orca. He was called tillicum

So after many breading cycles with tillicum all the offspring of him all had an incident where they had killed, seriously injured trainers due to the agreesion tillicum had as he was taken at a very young age.

Most killer whales in a pen in the USA  was a offspring of tillicum

I don’t think any aquarium holds a orca now, but could be wrong

There is a movie about it called blackfish

Very good but really sad

Sea World in San Diego has 2 (or 3 ?) Orcas swimming around in circles in a big tank. No Orca shows with trainers in the water or tricks (that I’m aware of). We have season passes and take the grandkids there quite a bit because it’s an easy cheap way to spend the day. As far as I can tell all the Orcas do is swim around in an empty tank. No fake walls, no rock features are fake bushes for them to swim through, just a big empty tank. IMG 8873 0.png?VersionId=pG5QZO9HSvz.tG4A.n5b.Drk9sLH4

All of their dorsal fins are flopped over to one side. I guess that only happens in captivity. They’ve had a lot of sightings off of Dana point and the local waters around here. I’ve been wanting to head outside the harbor in the kayak and see them up close, but I can’t get any of my friends to sack up and go with me. Pussies 😂. I tell them dude we’re not on the menu, if we were on the menu, we’d know it.  Still no takers, warm water and all 🫤😛

I feel bad for the family of the person  ,and anybody who was there to see it happen.  But I'm glad that the tiger going to stay alive. And that is the right thing to do.

In the 3rd or 4th grade I did a report on tigers. And I would never want to have to try and get away from one. They can jump 30 feet. And run pretty quickly, faster than I can that's for sure.

Obviosuly the tiger is innocent and not capable of guilt. Nothing should happen there.

That said it's a tragedy. The guy I think had learning difficulties / special needs, was seen making sign language at the tiger etc. Probably thought it'd be like a tiger in a cartoon or something and that he could make friends with it. Super sad.

He should've been watched, and I believe was, but his mother couldn't physcially stop his determination in getting in there.

Something Iv'e pondered. For you guys used to being around wild animals (hunters etc) would someone charging at the tiger with maximum aggression have worked in getting it to back off? Of course the power comparison isn't even close but then predators don't expect such behaviour. Or would the new guy just become the new target? Not something that's easy to volunteer for in the moment regardless...

I would have picked a different historical period to do a re-enactment then Roman Gladiator.

A #2 meatbag lunging at the tiger would have caused it to pause, but not stopped the outcome other than now 2 bled out meatbags in the pen.

Need three or four all in different directions with long sticks lunging at it. Make the tiger have to keep changing direction to keep it occupied. But... whoever is the last meatbag to distract the tiger is still going to be a meal once everyone else is safe. The question is how you neutralize the tiger so you can all get away. Can you back into part of the enclosure it can be locked in so you can all escape?

Haven't done this with a tiger myself, but this is what some friends of mine have done with mountain lions. Get them up in a tree then leave. If it's a grizzly, I just have to run faster than ONE other person in the group. Moose? They arent going to stop. You're screwed. They are going to run you over and trample you to death. Wolves? You're all screwed. They kill just for fun. Won't stop to eat you, just keep running everyone down.
