Kawis have forever been a rear steer bike. Sexton is not a rear steer rider. I'll be surprised if he stays at Kawi. I hope he does...but I think it's 50/50 at best.

Yes! 😅

My ”point” kinda was, are Kawi and Triumph really satisfied with only being able to get also-ran riders, no hate, they are great personalities but still…

Triumph is a new brand but Kawi has heritage in Eli and RV2… and now (as one of the big 4) they are concidered a second rate team?

don't forget the 2027 has all new frame with different geometry. We'll need ride reports and test articles before we know how the new bike steers...

time will tell if it's improved and how many riders might be attracted to Kawi if it really is improved?

Good point. Maybe Chase will be happy with the new bike...for 3-4 races.

“Rear steer bike” is just a PC way of saying that the bike sucks at turning lol

In my humble opinion the 24-26 KX 450 is not a rear steer bike.

The new bike is nothing like the old bike, it is a front end steering scoot. FWIW

Yeah it's one of the better tracking and turning bikes I've ever ridden.

The issue the motor. It has to be revved to higher than normal 450 rpm's to hit the power levels you need. This in turn impacts the chassis.

This is also why it's a more noticeable issue outdoors than indoors.

Kawi being inflexible is not new news, nor that they don’t listen to riders. He rode the bike and signed anyway, so this is what you get. If he really wants to get out of it he’d go buy the bike of his choosing and ride it until something he likes opens up for him. But no, I know that’s crazy and he’ll never do it because he expects to get paid for his talent, but no championship contending factory backed team is open at this point in time.

He’s a square peg trying to fit into an already occupied round hole no matter where he would go.

They’re plenty flexible for their top rider. They did a lot this year to make Chase happy, and they did the same for Jorge last year. The issue is steering. They can’t get it right, it’s oversteer or understeer, pick one. Outside of Febvre, any of the top guys who have ridden for the team on this model in Europe or the US have said the same thing publicly, it’s not some kind of hidden knowledge that’s not out there. The new bike allegedly fixes this but that is coming from Tickle who works for Kawi, so for anything definitive, we’re going to need to wait to hear from top riders, not shootouts or test riders.

I do believe Weimer’s stories about Dan, but I don’t think that’s what’s going on with Chase or was going on with Jorge. I truly believe the bike is the problem.

Not if you like to steer with the rear. Do rear wheel drive cars suck at turning compared to front wheel? No, quite the opposite.

What makes a “rear steer” bike good at rear steering that a good turning bike couldn’t do? If you like to steer with the rear you can still do that on a good turning bike. There’s also many many many situations where you aren’t going to be steering with the rear even if you “prefer” that lol.

I’m not saying the kawi isn’t a good turning bike, haven’t ridden one in a while. I was just making a joke that saying a bike is “rear steering” is just saying it doesn’t turn well lol.

I don't even know where to stand on this. This is three major teams in a row for Chase. Not identical in each case, but it didn't work out for any. Then there is Kawi which seems to have issues. Are the issues solely the bike, is it team management/culture/policy, I have no idea, but it's not working. This was destined to be a shit show and here we are.

KTM was the best fit and his best results.

He shoulda stayed...

You/we have no idea what was going on behind closed doors @ ktm - shock issues, bankruptcy rumours, always easy to judge with hindsight. Chase clearly wasn’t happy and done what he thought was best for his career/life, fuck what everyone else thinks. I’d love to see him go yellow, turns well, stable as anything/ Could be just what Chase is looking for. Something cool about a 2018 model bike kickn ass in 26/27.

multiple references I saw that Chase likes his rear end lower. That in turn messes with steering rake/angle and they can't find a way to compensate to balance things out? Stink bugging high in the rear or low riding with front end raked out- but never neutral balance means ill handling overall.

Well this thread maybe true afterall.

An associate of mine has "heard" that Sexton senior is no longer part of the Entourage.

But if you hear his post race comments he was definitely not pleased. He spoke as if the win just fell into his lap, and that if he needed to push he couldn’t. That was very telling for me.

You bring up lots of good points. To me its always interesting to look at other comparable situations as a measure of the contributors to a situation like Sexton/Kawi.

A current and similar situation across the pond is Gajser/Yamaha. Same scenario of very few wins for the bike/team in recent years through a turnover of a few riders that were expected to be championship contenders. Tim is on Chases level by way of wins and championships. Safe to say that if Sexton was coming off of a year like Gajser's, he wouldn't be any happier than he is currently.

In MXGP, the current gen KX450 has won a championship while the Yamaha is ten years removed from their last MXGP championship.

There's a case to be made that there's a problem with the US spec Kawasaki.

There's an equally strong case to be made that there's a problem with the MXGP spec Yamaha.

Pretty sure Sexton would switch places with Gajser if he could (in a heartbeat). Doubt Gajser would feel the same.

Sexton has been posting pictures from back home in Illinois at fair races and the track he grew up on and riding bicycle down country roads surrounded by corn that needs to be picked..... don't care what anyone says or where he ends up he's a real one and I'm always going to root for that guy.

No lol. I would also bet Tim is on a Kawasaki when his contract with Yamaha is up.

Vital's silly season report today shows him staying?

I think ML says, Sexton "looks to be staying" at Kawasaki...and that's not saying 100% certain.

That said, if it turns out to be accurate, Chase better roll into A1 100% READY to go on his "new" bike, and in the right headspace to win. If he's still jacking with the setup too much, and has a bit of a shitty attitude...it'll be "Round 2" of last season, or worse.

Maybe he's waiting to ride the 27 bike before making the final decision..
