After a ride, open face, rubber boots, jeans and a flannel shirt jacket...that's pretty old school (International Scout, my school driver):
Thanks for sharing those DJ.
When those Mag wheels came out and we found out they were guaranteed for life we had to have them. We put them on and rode down to the grocery store loading docks . They dropped off about 6 feet onto concrete and it took us about an hour to break those Mag wheels. We took them back and got some new ones!
Didn’t Pierre have a house in Mission Viejo at one point?
Classic 70’s! 😎
This bike has all the parts from my Stingray bmx’er swapped over to the Webco frame I got for Christmas. I remember these tuff wheels flexed way too much. Looking at this pic I can remember how it felt
Built this bike from a banana seat bike. Before there were available BMX bikes!
Pit Row
WOW! That is cool!😎
Stay in line!
Really cool pic. Back then you removed the lights and maybe put on some knobbies and number plates and loaded her up!😎
At the End of the 70’s
By the end of the 70’s I had finally gotten a good camera and lenses to take motocross pictures. A Canon AE-1 with a 135 telephoto is what I took to the races with me. In Montana the beginners, intermediates, and mini bike classes ran in the morning and the experts raced in the afternoon for money. I was an intermediate at that time so I would race in the morning, get cleaned up, changed, and then grab the camera and take shots of the “Spurts”. The files names of the following pictures, (scanned from slides), will tell the date and locations in Montana.
Edit/Addendum: I raced the 1979 CR125R for 3 seasons through 1981. I was going to college at the same time and I could not afford to get a new bike every year. So each year between the seasons I modified the bike in a effort to keep up with all the new water cooled/single shock bikes. You can see the bike as I raced it in 1981 here in the "New Mugen Honda Forum" thread in the Old School Moto section. After the 81 season I had to quit racing to concentrate my time and money on school full time. But I got back into Motocross and Trials after college.
Awesome pictures Reese!🏁😎
I would agree. That CR 125 looks amazing.
DG hat, hush puppies, aviator glasses and some body english
Excellent story! Interestingly, I had a Rupp minibike with a 5 HP lawnmower engine. I used to beat a kid who lived on my block and had a Honda 50. I think my dad may have added a tooth or two to the rear sprocket of the Rupp 😎
Back in the 70’s a half pipe was a half pipe. Transitions weren’t invented yet 🤣. The ramp got twice as wide before the cops made us take it down because of the noise. All you had to do was donate wood to ride , construction sites didn’t like us. We weren’t getting air , but the Dog Town Boys were , I happened to be at school that day 😢
That’s cool. I like the ride admission too , great idea.👍🏻😎
